In This Book: Dave Johnson takes a thorough look at the culture of one of the Filipino people groups with a view toward developing a contextual theology that is biblically accurate, missiologically sound and culturally relevant throughout the Filipino lowlands. He delves deep, seeking to understand the religious worldview assumptions that underpin and drive the various religious practices and the people who are involved in them. Some of the specific issues he tackles are: • All Saints’ Day and the dead returning to their gravesites • Praying to Mary and the Saints • Demon possession • Town Fiestas • Sickness and healing • How people have been transformed by the power of God within their own cultural setting, both in the past and present • And much more!

Restoring The Faith written by Edith Waldvogel Blumhofer and has been published by University of Illinois Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993 with Pentecostalism categories.

American Pentecostalism began as a culturally isolated sect intent upon announcing the imminence of the world's end. The sect's early millenarian fervor gradually became muted in favor of flag-waving patriotism. At the end of the twentieth century it has become an affluent, worldwide movement thoroughly entrenched in popular culture. Edith Blumhofer uses the Assemblies of God, the largest classical Pentecostal denomination in the world, as a lens through which to view the changing nature of Anglo Pentecostalism in the United States. She illustrates how the original mission to proclaim the end resulted in the development of Bible schools, the rise of the charismatic movement, and the popularity of such figures as Aimee Semple McPherson, Charles Fox Parham, and David Du Plessis. Blumhofer also examines the sect's use of radio and television and the creation of a parallel Christian culture

Pentecostal Churches In Transition written by Shane Clifton and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Religion categories.

The global growth of Pentecostal movements during the course of the twentieth century has been widely documented although, to date, there has been little written on their developing ecclesiology. After making the case for a concrete rather than idealised approach to ecclesiology, this book describes and analyses the transitions that have framed the ways in which Australian Pentecostals have understood church life and mission. From a loosely knit faith missions movement, to congregational free church structures, to the so-called apostolic models of mega-churches, Australian pentecostalism stands as a microcosmos of ecclesial developments that have occurred throughout the world. This book, therefore, provides a means of reflecting upon what has been gained and lost in the process of ecclesiological change.

Who were the men and women who laid the foundation of The General Council of the Assemblies of God? They were ordinary people, many with little or no ministry experience or formal training, yet they were the raw material God used in the modern Pentecostal movement. Shaped by the Holy Spirit, they became His instruments of vision and revival--from generation to generation. Their journey is a foundation we can build on.Ideal for classroom use or personal reading, this updated version includes updated bios; new material covering the timeframe since the original writing of the book in 2000; and fresh design for easy reading.Pick up where this book ends and your faith will be strengthened as you live the history that has changed the world.
