Astrophysical Techniques 2nd Edition written by Christopher R. Kitchin and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991-10 with Art categories.

Astrophysical Techniques provides a comprehensive and clearly understandable account of the instruments and techniques used in astronomy and astrophysics. Drawing together an ever-diverging array of observational techniques, using the common thread of a detection-imaging-ancillary instruments pattern, Dr Kitchin has provided us with a unified view of astrophysical investigation. The author's fully illustrated text starts from first principles and explains each method up to the point at which you can begin practical work with the equipment and even start designing it. Exercises with answers are used to reinforce the ideas presented in each chapter. There is also an extensive bibliography to enable further study and appendices of tables of astrophysical data provide an excellent reference source. Science undergraduates taking an astronomy option will find Astrophysical Techniques an essential study aid. Amateur astronomers of any level will find this book to be of immense value to research. Professional astronomers should use this book as a source of information on areas unfamiliar to them. This revised and updated edition of Dr Kitchin's authoritative book contains a large amount of new material keeping the student of astronomy totally informed. It is an essential guide to all the astrophysical methods and techniques.

Algorithms From The Book Second Edition written by Kenneth Lange and has been published by SIAM this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-06-12 with Science categories.

Most books on algorithms are narrowly focused on a single field of application. This unique book cuts across discipline boundaries, exposing readers to the most successful algorithms from a variety of fields. Algorithm derivation is a legitimate branch of the mathematical sciences driven by hardware advances and the demands of many scientific fields. The best algorithms are undergirded by beautiful mathematics. This book enables readers to look under the hood and understand how some basic algorithms operate and how to assemble complex algorithms from simpler building blocks. Since publication of the first edition of Algorithms from THE BOOK, the number of new algorithms has swelled exponentially, with the fields of neural net modeling and natural language processing leading the way. These developments warranted the addition of a new chapter on automatic differentiation and its applications to neural net modeling. The second edition also corrects previous errors, clarifies explanations, adds worked exercises, and introduces new algorithms in existing chapters. In Algorithms from THE BOOK, Second Edition, the majority of algorithms are accompanied by Julia code for experimentation, the many classroom-tested exercises make the material suitable for use as a textbook, and appendices contain not only background material often missing in undergraduate education but also solutions to selected problems. This book is intended for students and professionals in the mathematical sciences, physical sciences, engineering, and the quantitative sectors of the biological and social sciences.

The Pacific Rim Conference originally started with one research concentration only - binary star research. The first Conference was held in Beijing, China, 1985, the second one in Seoul and Taejon, South Korea, 1990 and the third one in Chiang Mai, Thailand, 1995. In recent years, the conference series evolved into a much broader area of stellar astrophysics. The first such conference was held in Hong Kong in 1997. Kwong-Sang Cheng, a. k. a. one of the three Musketeers, documented the "accidental" development in writing in the Proceedings of the 1997 Pacific Rim Conference on Stellar Astrophysics (Volume 138 of the ASP Conference Series)! The meeting at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology covered three major topics: binary stars, compact stars and solar type stars. The conference was extremely successful. There was a general feeling among the participants that the conference on stellar astrophysics provided a good means to share ideas between such closely related disciplines. Unfortunately after the very successful meeting at HKST, Kwing L. Chan (another Musketeer) thought that he had already served and would not like to chair for another LOC for at least five years! After a few drinks at one of the watering holes in Wan Chai district of Hong Kong, Kwong-Sang Cheng was in very hiRh spirit and volunteered to taking on the responsibility of hosting the 51 Pacific Rim Conference at Hong Kong University in 1999.

Statistics Data Mining And Machine Learning In Astronomy written by Željko Ivezić and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020 with Computers categories.

"As telescopes, detectors, and computers grow ever more powerful, the volume of data at the disposal of astronomers and astrophysicists will enter the petabyte domain, providing accurate measurements for billions of celestial objects. This book provides a comprehensive and accessible introduction to the cutting-edge statistical methods needed to efficiently analyze complex data sets from astronomical surveys such as the Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System, the Dark Energy Survey, and the upcoming Large Synoptic Survey Telescope. It serves as a practical handbook for graduate students and advanced undergraduates in physics and astronomy, and as an indispensable reference for researchers. The updates in this new edition will include fixing "code rot," correcting errata, and adding some new sections. In particular, the new sections include new material on deep learning methods, hierarchical Bayes modeling, and approximate Bayesian computation. Statistics, Data Mining, and Machine Learning in Astronomy presents a wealth of practical analysis problems, evaluates techniques for solving them, and explains how to use various approaches for different types and sizes of data sets. For all applications described in the book, Python code and example data sets are provided. The supporting data sets have been carefully selected from contemporary astronomical surveys (for example, the Sloan Digital Sky Survey) and are easy to download and use. The accompanying Python code is publicly available, well documented, and follows uniform coding standards. Together, the data sets and code enable readers to reproduce all the figures and examples, evaluate the methods, and adapt them to their own fields of interest"--
