"The Great Gold Renaissance" covers the remarkable revival of Australia's gold industry and how it was transformed in the 1980s and 1990s to become a $5 billion a year business. How higher gold prices, new technology and Australian ingenuity led to a twenty-fold increase in gold production and how Australia led the world in innovative financing and marketing methods. Since the start of the 2000s, the gold industry has continued to flourish and Australia's gold output is now worth around $25 billion a year. As a sequel to "The Great Gold Renaissance" a new book, "Australia's Greatest Gold Boom" has just been published, covering the years from 2001 to 2021. Together, these two books provide a definitive record of this extraordinary forty-year period. "The Great Gold Renaissance" has been out of print for many years, so this second edition has been released to complement the new book. Written by someone with hands-on experience - a recognised gold industry expert and former geologist, banker and corporate executive - both books are packed with facts. This is a mostly true story of the greatest gold discovery in world history. The greatest amount of gold ever produced in world history came from the Witwatersrand Basin in South Africa. The deposit was discovered in 1886. Some 1.5 billion ounces of gold have been produced from the district, 40% of all the gold ever mined. In 1888 in the Pilbara Basin of Western Australia a young lad out chopping wood for his fire picked up a stone to throw at a crow who had designs on the young man's lunch. The Pilbara Basin is a similar age formation to that of the Witwatersrand Basin. Same rocks, same age, same potential. The stone turned out to be gold. The discovery began a gold rush in Western Australia that continues to this day. The insider happened to have stumbled into the midst of the discovery all the way from it being an interesting theory to exploration and drilling right to the first gold pour. To this day we don't know what became of the crow.

Boom written by Malcolm Knox and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Mineral industries categories.

One of our finest writers on one of our most dramatic stories. Mining divides the country - development against conservation, north and west against south and east, pro-tax against anti-tax. It's an important industry, but why do passions run so high? What does mining really mean to us? And how much do we understand about our underground history? Although we favour the romantic vision of Australia riding to prosperity on the sheep's back, in reality we have always owed as much to the shovel. The gold rush kick-started the nation, populating our cities and building our regional centres, and our fortunes have since risen and fallen according to what we've been able to dig from the ground.Boom is not a textbook history of Australian mining, but a narrative of the people behind the facts and figures, from the eccentric loners who staked the first claims to the emergence of the modern mega-magnates. It takes us deep underground with men working in mortal danger by candlelight, and on the extraordinary journey 25, 000 tonnes of the raw Australian landscape makes from the Pilbara to Shanghai. Boom reveals the history of mining as the Australian story, for better or worse. Insightful, compellingly readable and full of extraordinary characters, it shows how mining and miners have shaped our history and gripped our imagination through boom and bust. 'A shrewd and captivating work of history' Weekend Australian 'Knox asks questions on awkward topics and sieves a lot of history in the attempt to provide answers. Even those who disagree with some or many of his conclusions, must concede that he vigorously stirs a pot that is crucial' Geoffrey Blainey, The Sydney Morning Herald 'Eye-opening detail . . . Knox demonstrates a skilful ability to weave together detail, history and narrative, upholding his reputation as a masterful storyteller' Readings

Robert Philps, later a Minister for Mines and a Queensland Premier, called it "the biggest ever mining swindle in the Colonies". He for one certainly knew, because Robert Ross himself sold Philps a swag of the Company shares in early 1888. This is the true story of multiple gold frauds by Robert Ross near Yeppoon Queensland, and a dubious Sydney Company involving many leading identities now well known in our history. Some made fortunes almost overnight and some ended up mortally wounded. The Supreme Court sessions featured most of the leading 'silks' in the Colony and even our later first Prime Minister Edmund Barton and all the sworn evidence and verdicts were meticulously recorded and then first sealed under Statute for 30 years.

Money Pits British Mining Companies In The Californian And Australian Gold Rushes Of The 1850s written by John Woodland and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-15 with History categories.

Between 1849 and 1853 shares in nearly 120 public companies to exploit the booming goldfields of California and Australia were offered to the British public. The companies were collectively capitalised at over £15 million, but in the end only some £1.75 million was actually raised between 42 of them, with only one company surviving what the newspapers of the day described as a ’gold bubble’. This book provides an overview of the entire bubble event, its antecedents and its outcomes. A number of researchers have investigated an earlier boom in the mid-1820s to reopen gold and silver mines in Latin America and several have studied individual company operations of that period. This is the first detailed investigation of the British gold bubble companies of the 1850s and their involvement in the almost simultaneous gold rushes on both sides of the Pacific Ocean.

David Hill relates the extraordinary people and staggering events of Australia's great gold-rush years. From the mid- to late-1800s, people from all corners of the globe and all walks of life, including two future prime ministers of Great Britain and Australia, threw off their previous pursuits and made the often perilous journey to the goldfields, from where they would return either fabulously wealthy or demoralised and broken - if they returned at all.
