This book is by far the most systematic and comprehensive review of the field of automated software composition. Based on a formally described and reproducible methodology, it critically discusses the approaches, which are relevant for experts interested in an organized overview of related work. It also provides an introduction and intuitive classification system for researchers new to the field. In order to create this survey, several dozen papers were analyzed with respect to the concrete problems they tackle and the proposed solutions. It delivers both an overview and a qualitative comparison of the approaches, and answers three research questions: What types of automated software composition problems exist? In which use cases do these problems typically occur? And what are the most prominent solution paradigms for the different types? Overall, this book saves a great deal of time for everyone pursuing research in the area of automated software composition who needs a comprehensive guide that helps them understand the field, and that relates new approaches to existing ones.

Enhancing Planning Based Automated Service Composition Models And Techniques written by Wei Zhu (Ph.D.) and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Artificial intelligence categories.

Service-oriented architecture (SOA) has been widely adopted by government and industry to enable rapid systems development and deployment via composing existing services. To further reduce manual efforts in service composition, planning techniques are used to automate the service composition process. However, some gaps still exist in automated service composition research. First, real world systems are complex and need to consider multiple functionalities. Existing service composition models do not support the specification of multiple functionalities and existing planning techniques cannot be used directly to generate a composite service with multiple functionalities. Secondly, a lot of work exists for improving the performance of planners for automated service composition, but none of them consider the scalability problem due to the number of services. With the growing adoption of SOA and open source development, more and more concrete services are becoming available, which makes the scalability issue highly pressing. Thirdly, existing service models are based on software services, while physical services have quite different characteristics. Though some works consider modeling physical services, they are still confined to the same issues of the software services. When considering automated service composition, these models are insufficient. In this dissertation, the three issues in automated service composition are thoroughly investigated and methods for coping with them are developed. For the first issue, we extend existing service models to support multi-functionality specification and develop planning techniques to facilitate service composition for multi-functionality systems. To cope with the second issue, we develop an approach that integrates service clustering and planning techniques to improve the performance of the automated service composition process and make it scalable with the number of services. We also develop a specification model for physical services and their compositions to ensure that automated service composition can be correctly applied to cyber physical systems and Internet of things applications. Our work significantly enhances the state-of-the-art technologies in automated service composition, making it more efficient and more applicable to a wider variety of application domains.

Services are self-contained and platform independent software components. Automated service composition as understood in this thesis is the task of automatically assembling new software artifacts from existing services without structural knowledge about the solution. The service composition problem is typically seen and addressed as a planning problem. Automated planning and composition have been heavily studied research fields for many years, but the majority of available approaches cannot cope with important aspects of the service composition problem. This thesis presents a selection of approaches that address the above shortcomings. My original contributions are as follows: 1. I present two planning algorithms that solve the sequential composition problem. 2. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first work that presents a technique to find compositions not only with alternative branches but also with loops. 3. I conducted an exhaustive evaluation that not only suggests practical solvability of the problem but also compares the algorithms regarding runtime and solution quality. ; eng

Service-Oriented Computing (SOC) allows software development time to be shortened by the composition of existing services across the Internet. Further exploitation of this revolutionary trend is feasible through automation, thanks to the use of software agents and techniques from distributed artificial intelligence. This book provides an overview of the related technologies and insight into state-of-the art research results in the field. The topics discussed cover the various stages in the life cycle of service-oriented software development using agent technologies to automate the development process and to manage services in a dynamic environment. The book presents both academic research results and the latest developments from industry. Researchers from academia and industry, as well as postgraduates, will find this cutting-edge volume indispensable in order to gain understanding of the issues associated with agent-based service-oriented computing along with recent, and likely future technology trends.

Rigorous Software Engineering For Service Oriented Systems written by Martin Wirsing and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-09-15 with Computers categories.

Service-Oriented Computing is a paradigm for developing and providing software that can address many IT challenges, ranging from integrating legacy systems to building new, massively distributed, interoperable, evaluable systems and applications. The widespread use of SOC demonstrates the practical benefits of this approach. Furthermore it raises the standard for reliability, security, and performance for IT providers, system integrators, and software developers. This book documents the main results of Sensoria, an Integrated Project funded by the European Commission in the period 2005-2010. The book presents, as Sensoria's essence, a novel, coherent, and comprehensive approach to the design, formal analysis, automated deployment, and reengineering of service-oriented applications. Following a motivating introduction, the 32 chapters are organized in the following topical parts: modeling in service-oriented architectures; calculi for service-oriented computing; negotiation, planning, and reconfiguration; qualitative analysis techniques for SOC; quantitative analysis techniques for SOC; model-driven development and reverse engineering for service-oriented systems; and case studies and patterns.

Research results from industry-academic collaborative projects in service-oriented computing describe practical, achievable solutions. Service-Oriented Applications and Architectures (SOAs) have captured the interest of industry as a way to support business-to-business interaction, and the SOA market grew by $4.9 billion in 2005. SOAs and in particular service-oriented computing (SOC) represent a promising approach in the development of adaptive distributed systems. With SOC, applications can open themselves to services offered by third parties and accessed through standard, well-defined interfaces. The binding between the applications and the services can be, in this context, extremely loose--enabling the ad hoc creation of new services when the need arises. This book offers an overview of some current research in the field, presenting the results of eighteen research projects funded by the European Community's Information Society Technologies Program (IST). The projects, collaborations between industry and academia, have produced practical, achievable results that point the way to real-world applications and future research. The chapters address such issues as requirement analysis, design, governance, interoperability, and the dependability of systems made up of components owned by third parties. The results are presented in the context of two roadmaps for research, one developed by European industry involved in software development and the other by researchers working in the service area. The contributors report first on the "Infrastructure Layer," then (in the bulk of the book) on the "Service Integration Layer," the "Semantic Layer," and finally on the issues that cut across the different layers. The book concludes by looking at ongoing research on both roadmaps.

Software as a service is well accepted software deployment and distribution model that is grown exponentially in the last few years. One of the biggest benefits of SaaS is the automated composition of these services in a composite system. It allows users to automatically find and bind these services, as to maximize the productivity of their composed systems, meeting both functional and non-functional requirements. In this paper we present a framework for modeling the dependency relationship of different Quality of Service parameters of a component service. Our proposed approach considers the different invocation patterns of component services in the system and models the dependency relationship for optimum values of these QoS parameters. We present a service composition framework that models the dependency relations ship among component services and uses the global QoS for service selection.
