This book addresses an essential gap in the regulatory regime, which provides legislation, statements and guidelines on airlines, airports, air navigation services providers and States in the field of aviation, but is notably lacking when it comes to the rights of the airline passenger, and the average citizen who is threatened by military air strikes. It addresses subjects such as international resolutions on human rights and other human rights conventions related to aviation that impact both air transport consumers and people on the ground who are threatened by air strikes through drone attacks; disabled and obese airline passengers; compensation for delayed carriage and the denial of carriage; noise and air pollution caused by aviation and their effects on human health and wellbeing; prevention of death or injury to passengers and attendant compensatory rights; risk management; relief flights; and racial profiling. These subjects are addressed against the backdrop of real case studies that include but are not limited to instances of drone attacks, and contentious flights in the year 2014 such as MH 370, MH 17 and QZ 8501.

Aspects Of International Cooperation In Air Traffic Management written by Walter Schwenk and has been published by Kluwer Law International B.V. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-01-01 with Law categories.

This volume discusses various institutional, legal and operational aspects related to the provision of air navigation services, taking particular consideration of the current implementation of a new generation of communications, navigation and surveillance systems for future air traffic management (CNS/ATM). The primary intent is to critically review the current mechanisms for international co-operation in this field. Particularly in Europe, many efforts have been undertaken to enhance air traffic management by harmonization and integration of national developments but many parties claim that these are still insufficient and the processes are still dominated by the individual States. Following a short description of the historical developments, the global framework of cooperation established through ICAO is described, supplemented with a description of some multilateral organizations active in the field of air traffic management on a regional basis. The basic technological and operational changes envisaged with the implementation of the Future Air Navigation Systems (FANS) are described and, based on these, related institutional and legal aspects are discussed. Particular emphasis is given to developments in Europe, where during the last four decades several initiatives for enhancing the cooperation of States could not overcome the fragmentation of the airspace. The decisions of February 1997 of the ECAC Ministers of Transport on an Institutional Strategy are reflected. One chapter is devoted to questions of liability in air traffic management which are of particular importance with regard to international cooperation.

International Cooperation in the Aerospace Industry offers a unique study and analysis of how nations and industries have cooperated internationally to design and manufacture civil and military aircraft from a variety of perspectives: historical, economic, organizational, operational and political. Covering Europe, North and South America, Asia and the Middle East, the author examines both the practical and managerial aspects of establishing and operating international programs and analyses the economic and political dynamics associated with international cooperation. A chapter is dedicated to description and comparison of the various organizational and legal structures that have historically been used as frameworks for cooperative programs. It also examines cooperative international activities in aerospace research and development, and international ventures in maintenance, repair and overhaul of operational aircraft. Throughout the book, practical examples of cooperative programs around the world are used to illustrate analytical themes, as well as a series of case studies of international cooperative aircraft programs of special political and economic significance. This comprehensive book will be a valuable resource for researchers and post graduate students specialising in aviation and aerospace management.

The Committee on Homeland Security has sole jurisdiction over all Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security matters, including the security of passengers and cargo within the U.S. aviation system.Ten years after al-Qaeda terrorists killed nearly 3,000 innocent Americans at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Pennsylvania, terrorists continue to focus on commercial aircraft as a top target. As demonstrated by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab's Christmas Day 2009 attack on Detroit-bound Northwest Airlines Flight 253, TSA and other Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agencies must constantly work to improve passenger screening technologies and processes to respond to and stay ahead of evolving threats posed by our skillful and adaptive enemy. While enhanced imaging technology and enhanced pat-down procedures are necessary today to protect American travelers, rigorous oversight and privacy protections must be in place. The Committee conducts robust oversight of TSA's deployment of technology and implementation of procedures related to passenger screening.
