The Revised Standard Edition Of The Complete Psychological Works Of Sigmund Freud written by Sigmund Freud and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-06-04 with Psychology categories.
The long-awaited Revised Standard Edition of the Complete Psychological Works of Sigmund Freud (RSE) is founded on the canonical Standard Edition (SE) translation from the German by James Strachey, while adding a new layer of revisions and translations. Conceptual and lexicographic ambiguities are clarified in extensive new annotations. Drawing on established conventions and intellectual traditions, the Revised Standard Edition supplements Freud's writing with substantial editorial commentaries addressing controversial technical terms and translation issues through the lens of modern scholarship-a living text in dialogue with itself and the reader. The RSE also includes 56 essays and letters which were not included in the SE. In the RSE text and footnotes a subtle underlining distinguishes, in an easy and accessible way, Mark Solms's revisions and additions, from the historical translation and commentaries of James Strachey's Standard Edition. Readers can examine what Strachey contributed before the revisions in tandem with Solms's updates, new translations, annotations, and commentaries, collectively bringing Freud's text and Strachey's translation into dialogue with five decades of research, including the most recent developments in the field. Commissioned by the British Psychoanalytical Society and co-published by Rowman & Littlefield, the Revised Standard Edition brings together decades of scholarly deliberation concerning the translation of Freudian technical terms while retaining the best of Strachey's original English translation. This landmark work will captivate a wide audience, from interested lay readers to practicing clinicians to scientists and scholars in fields related to psychoanalysis. Special Features: New Freud material, including 56 notes, essays, and letters that were not included in the Standard Edition. They reveal new insights into Freud's views on such topics ashomosexuality and religion New content underlined to identify changes to the Standard Edition, including corrections of mistakes in the original translation as well as new, clearer translations of many passages New annotations in the margins providing the original German technical terms New and updated editorial material and translation notes New glossary concerning the translation of all key terms New photographic illustrations New and massively expanded Freud bibliography Entirely revised 24th volume, a major scholarly work, including a comprehensive index for the whole set Cross-referencing to the earlier SE is facilitated by the addition of page numbers in square brackets in the margins

Faith Of The Fatherless written by Dr. Paul C Vitz and has been published by Ignatius Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-23 with Religion categories.
In this updated, expanded edition, starting with Freud's "projection theory" of religion - that belief in God is merely a product of man's desire for security - Professor Vitz argues that psychoanalysis actually provides a more satisfying explanation for atheism. Disappointment in one's earthly father, whether through death, absence, or mistreatment, frequently leads to a rejection of God. A biographical survey of influential atheists of the past four centuries shows that this "defective father hypothesis" provides a consistent explanation of the "intense atheism" of these thinkers. A survey of the leading defenders of Christianity over the same period confirms the hypothesis, finding few defective fathers. Vitz concludes with an intriguing comparison of male and female atheists and a consideration of other psychological factors that can contribute to atheism. Professor Vitz does not argue that atheism is psychologically determined. Each man, whatever his experiences, ultimately chooses to accept God or reject him. Yet the cavalier attribution of religious faith to irrational, psychological needs is so prevalent that an exposition of the psychological factors predisposing one to atheism is necessary. Ê

Back To Freud S Texts written by Ilse Grubrich-Simitis and has been published by Yale University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996-01-01 with Psychology categories.
This book blazes a trail in Freud research. Ilse Grubrich-Simitis, a prominent authority on Freud, examines and deciphers Freud's original manuscripts--which had remained disregarded for decades. From these she analyzes Freud's method of working and points out what the writings reveal of his psychological states, the events in his life, and the development of his thinking over time. The book is at once a study of Freud's creativity as a scientist and writer, an important reference on the texts themselves, and a commentary on previously unexplored aspects of Freud's life and work. Examining many hitherto unknown texts, Grubrich-Simitis provides a fresh and authentic picture of the discoverer of the unconscious at work: observing, listening to his patients, gathering the raw material for his oeuvre, fantasizing, drawing conclusions, drafting, rewriting, and correcting. She refutes the legend of the facility of Freud's production, for the notes, drafts, fair copies, and variants she identifies bear witness to the fact that almost every work actually came into being by a process of consuming hard labor. Grubrich-Simitis's analysis of Freud's manuscripts is flanked by two shorter sections on Freud's printed texts: in one she recounts the history of the editions from the beginnings in Vienna to the present day, and in the other she offers a detailed plan for a new historical-critical edition of his works.

The essays in this collection combine fresh interpretations of well known literary texts by leading critics (such as Frank Kermode, Sandra Gilbert, J. Hillis Miller, Barbara Hardy, Tony Tanner, and many others), those critics' retrospective thinking about their individual professional development, and an implicit communal reflection on changes on the critical and cultural scene of our times. It shows a transition from closed systems to more open configurations and from a view of texts as autonomous to complex interactions between text and context. Within the latter framework, ethical, social, ideological, political (feminist, post-colonial), psychoanalytic, and biographical dimensions of various texts are explored.
