ICHSS is an international seminar that is held every two years organized by the Research and Community Service Institute of the State University of Malang. The meeting aims to discuss the theoretical and practical developments of Social Sciences and Humanities in Indonesia and other countries with a view to build academic networks by gathering academics from various research institutes and universities. Community empowerment serves as a trigger to increase community independence and to cope with the challenges resulting from the rapid development of technology. Open Access to various forms of the existing literature is one of the requirements for innovative research to develop optimally. We are delighted to introduce the Proceedings of the Second International Conference on Progressive Education (ICOPE) 2020 hosted by the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Lampung, Indonesia, in the heart of the city Bandar Lampung on 16 and 17 October 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we took a model of an online organised event via Zoom. The theme of the 2nd ICOPE 2020 was “Exploring the New Era of Education”, with various related topics including Science Education, Technology and Learning Innovation, Social and Humanities Education, Education Management, Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Teacher Professional Development, Curriculum and Instructions, Assessment and Evaluation, and Environmental Education. This conference has invited academics, researchers, teachers, practitioners, and students worldwide to participate and exchange ideas, experiences, and research findings in the field of education to make a better, more efficient, and impactful teaching and learning. This conference was attended by 190 participants and 160 presenters. Four keynote papers were delivered at the conference; the first two papers were delivered by Prof Emeritus Stephen D. Krashen from the University of Southern California, the USA and Prof Dr Bujang Rahman, M.Si. from Universitas Lampung, Indonesia. The second two papers were presented by Prof Dr Habil Andrea Bencsik from the University of Pannonia, Hungary and Dr Hisham bin Dzakiria from Universiti Utara Malaysia, Malaysia. In addition, a total of 160 papers were also presented by registered presenters in the parallel sessions of the conference. The conference represents the efforts of many individuals. Coordination with the steering chairs was essential for the success of the conference. We sincerely appreciate their constant support and guidance. We would also like to express our gratitude to the organising committee members for putting much effort into ensuring the success of the day-to-day operation of the conference and the reviewers for their hard work in reviewing submissions. We also thank the four invited keynote speakers for sharing their insights. Finally, the conference would not be possible without the excellent papers contributed by authors. We thank all authors for their contributions and participation in the 2nd ICOPE 2020. We strongly believe that the 2nd ICOPE 2020 has provided a good forum for academics, researchers, teachers, practitioners, and students to address all aspects of education-related issues in the current educational situation. We feel honoured to serve the best recent scientific knowledge and development in education and hope that these proceedings will furnish scholars from all over the world with an excellent reference book. This is an open access book. The COVID-19 pandemic in the last two years has influenced how educational system works. Online learning became the primal policy taken by all institutions in the world to lower the risk of the virus spread. Despite the drawbacks of the online learning, teachers and students were accustomed with the distant learning through web meetings, Learning Management Systems (LMS) and other online learning platforms. Zusammenfassung: This is an open access book. One of the policies used by the government in preventing and controlling the spread of Covid-19 is implementing the Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB)policy As an investment, culture also requires strategies and enablers so that it is able to achieve the target of the happiness and welfare of the Indonesian people. The theme of the conference is "Reconstructing Morals, Education, and Social Sciences for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals". This theme was formulated due to several considerations. First, the symptoms of moral decline that have the potential to destroy the nation. Morals guide humanity towards truth and civilization. The phenomenon of the dehumanization process in the industrial era that pushed people to be part of abstract societies tends to ignore humanity. The education process as a humanitarian system is increasingly marginalized, especially during discussions about the industrial revolution 4.0 and Society 5.0. Apabila dilihat dari pengorganisasian materi sejarah terutama dalam kurikulum 2013, adalah masuk ke dalam rumpun ilmu-ilmu sosial. Tujuan dari pendidikan ilmu-ilmu sosial (di dalamnya sejarah) dalam kurikulum, adalah untuk mengembangkan kemampuan siswa agar bersikap dan dapat mengambil keputusan dalam menghadapi tantangan kehidupan, dan tuntutan masa depan sebagai warga negara yang bertanggung jawab. Terdapat tujuan khusus yang hanya dimiliki oleh materi mata pelajaran sejarah, dan tidak dimiliki oleh materi mata pelajaran lainnya di dalam kelompok rumpun mata pelajaran ilmu-ilmu sosial, yaitu proses penanaman nilai-nilai terhadap siswa melalui peristiwa sejarah. Selain itu pula yang menjadi karakteristik utama dari mata pelajaran sejarah dibandingkan dengan mata pelajaran lainnya, adalah jika mata pelajaran sejarah lebih terfokus pada materi yang berasal dari kehidupan masa lalu manusia, yang terfokus pada sebuah peristiwa sejarah, sedangkan materi mata pelajaran lain kepada materi yang terkini atau perkembangan terakhir (the state of the art) ( Hasan, 2019, hlm. 62).

Buku Sejarah Nasional Indonesia (SNI) Edisi Pemutakhiran ini terbit dalam cetakan ketujuh. Sejak awal penerbitan SNI pada tahun 1975, buku SNI ini belum pernah dimutakhirkan sesuai dengan temuan-temuan baru dan perkembangan teori sejarah yang baru. Sudah hampir tiga puluh tiga tahun, banyak naskah perbaikan masih tersimpan di laci para penulis sejarah Indonesia. Keunikan pertama dari SNI adalah bahwa buku merupakan hasil karya bangsa Indonesia sendiri, ilmuwan/-wati Indonesia yang sebagian besar masih hidup. Keunikan kedua dari buku SNI ini adalah dia ditulis dengan latar belakang Indonesia atau bersifat indonesiasentris. Untuk mengetahui latar belakang penulisan buku SNI sebanyak enam jilid ini perlu membaca Prakata Editor Umum pada edisi pertama yang ditulis oleh Prof. Dr. Sartono Kartodirdjo. Buku SNI telah mendapat julukan dari masyarakat Indonesia sebagai ”buku standar” sejarah Indonesia. Oleh karena itu, isi buku SNI sering dipakai sebagai sumber rujukan penulisan dan pembicaraan tentang sejarah Indonesia, baik secara langsung dikatakan maupun secara tersirat. Balai Pustaka sebagai pemegang hak penerbitan buku SNI telah berusaha keras untuk menghidupkan kembali semangat nasional para pencetus dan penulis awal buku SNI. Dengan menghimpun semua mereka yang terlibat langsung dan tidak langsung dalam penulisan buku SNI, Balai Pustaka berhasil memutakhirkan isi buku SNI walaupun memang terlambat. Kepada para penulis buku SNI, baik yang masih hidup dan terus terlibat dalam pemutakhiran buku SNI ini dan kepada yang telah meninggal, Balai Pustaka mengucapkan terima kasih dan penghormatan besar atas karya dan jasa mereka.
