Describes a three-phase plan for elementary-level teachers to develop literacy partnerships with children's families. Becoming Teammates: Teachers and Families as Literacy Partners offers a bold new look at how teachers and families can work together to build family-school relationships that value and respect each other's perspectives on literacy. Featuring the voices of parents, teachers, graduate students, and preservice teachers, Charlene Klassen Endrizzi's book explores how families and educators can combine their resources to become essential teammates and partners in children's literacy development. Endrizzi recognizes that family-school partnerships are a complex undertaking and offers suggestions for three phases of implementation. In Phase 1, teachers begin by extending to family members a variety of invitations to communicate--via surveys, ceremonies, and celebrations--thus building an awareness and understanding of the literacy learning that occurs both in school and at home. Phase 2 explores how teachers can initiate a two-way literacy conversation with families through dialogue journals, curricular newsletters, and literacy backpacks. The final stage has teachers forging partnerships with parents at Family Literacy Gatherings, during which they explain and demonstrate literacy beliefs and practices, discover and appreciate the families' funds of knowledge, and acknowledge and nurture the emerging parent advocates. Endrizzi challenges teachers to take an active role in developing partnerships by considering a myriad of ways to build bridges of understanding with their students' first learning partners.

A complete history of the U.S Women’s National Soccer Team from the 1980s to its 2019 World Cup victory. In the summer of 2019, the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team swept the field and decisively won their fourth World Cup, further cementing their place as the most decorated, ground-breaking, and outspoken team in women’s sports. But in The National Team, a complete history of the team, leading soccer journalist Caitlin Murray shows how their story is not only one of triumph on the pitch. From the team’s foundation in the 1980s to today, these women have face numerous challenges off the field: sexism, striking inequality, low pay, poor playing conditions, and limited opportunities to play in professional leagues. Through nearly one hundred exclusive interviews with players, coaches, and team officials, including Alex Morgan, Carli Lloyd, Hope Solo, Heather O’Reilly, Julie Foudy, Brandi Chastain, Pia Sundhage, Tom Sermanni, and Sunil Gulati, Murray takes readers inside the locker rooms and boardrooms in engrossing detail. A story of endurance and determination, The National Team is a complete portrait of this beloved and revolutionary team. Updated to include the 2019 World Cup victory. Praise for The National Team “I gobbled up every page of this deep dive into the incredible history and culture surrounding this team.” —Alexi Lalas “I’ve always had tremendous respect for the Women’s National Team but, after reading The National Team, that level of respect skyrocketed. This is a fantastic story about perseverance, overcoming obstacles and following your passion in life.” —Landon Donovan “In The National Team, Caitlin Murray has told an inspiring tale of the long arc of the U.S. women's national team, shedding new light on all the major tournaments while revealing fascinating details on its decades-long fight for better treatment from the men who run soccer. I learned a lot of new things from this terrific book.” —Grant Wahl, author of Masters of Modern Soccer “The U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team is one of the greatest collectives the United States has ever produced. For all its World Cups and Olympic Golds, it has never had a history worthy of its name. Caitlin Murray has put that right with this book. The National Team is the definitive telling of the team’s journey, giving the reader a behind the scenes understanding of the dreams, elite skills, and enormous sacrifices that have brought success on the field, and the huge battle for equality still to be won off it.” —Roger Bennett, Men in Blazers

Becoming A Sports Coach written by James Wallis and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-11-06 with Sports & Recreation categories.

A ‘coach’ is more than just somebody who leads in the organisation and delivery of structured sport. The role of a coach goes beyond leadership, requiring an understanding of theories of teaching and learning. To become a coach you must know how people learn. Becoming a Sports Coach aims to introduce the multi-dimensional and inter-locking knowledge bases that any aspiring coach will need to develop, and that any established coach needs to master in order to improve their professional practice. While traditional coach education pathways have focused on what to coach, this book argues that understanding how knowledge can be communicated to learners is just as important. Asking why we coach, through critical reflection and self-knowledge, is also an essential part of the process of becoming a sports coach. The book explores three types of knowledge – content knowledge, pedagogic knowledge and self-knowledge – challenging the reader to reflect on their own coaching experiences and to develop a personal philosophy of coaching. It explores key pedagogic themes in contemporary coaching studies, such as humanistic coaching, inclusive practice, coaching for understanding, and the athlete-coach relationship. Real case studies are used to illuminate the ways – transferrable across sports - in which coaches can apply theory to practice and ultimately enhance their work. With contributions from leading coaching researchers and practitioners, combining practical guidance with important theoretical insights, this book will help any coaching student or developing professional to better understand the journey to becoming an effective sports coach.

In his classic book, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, Patrick Lencioni laid out a groundbreaking approach for tackling the perilous group behaviors that destroy teamwork. Here he turns his focus to the individual, revealing the three indispensable virtues of an ideal team player. In The Ideal Team Player, Lencioni tells the story of Jeff Shanley, a leader desperate to save his uncle’s company by restoring its cultural commitment to teamwork. Jeff must crack the code on the virtues that real team players possess, and then build a culture of hiring and development around those virtues. Beyond the fable, Lencioni presents a practical framework and actionable tools for identifying, hiring, and developing ideal team players. Whether you’re a leader trying to create a culture around teamwork, a staffing professional looking to hire real team players, or a team player wanting to improve yourself, this book will prove to be as useful as it is compelling.
