Beverly was first settled by five men known as the Old Planters and was incorporated as a town in 1668. Its first minister, Rev. John Hale, was the author of an important work on the Salem witch hysteria. In 1775, the schooner Hannah, the first commissioned military vessel, sailed from Beverly Harbor. Privateers also sailed from here for their raids on enemy ships. In the 19th century, Beverlys Lucy Larcom wrote about life working in the cotton mills. The early 20th century attracted a wave of immigrants for the construction of the United Shoe Machinery Corporation and the development of the estates, beaches, and gardens of Beverlys Gold Coast. President Taft vacationed at present-day Lynch Park, and many visitors have come to Beverly for the North Shore Music Theatre and Le Grand David.

Set in New England, The Unforeseen follows the consequences of the brutal Civil War to the lives of ordinary women through three generations of intermarried families. In Beverly, Massachusetts, the magnitude of the war tears family life apart, forcing many to endure the absence and deaths of fathers, fiancs, brothers, uncles, cousins, and nephews. Unmarried women are forced to find work in factories or as servants and farm helpor else face miserable poverty. Jenny Proctor Hutchins, nineteen when the war breaks out in 1861, withstands catastrophic losses. She must adapt to the strangeness of a new city and of large-scale production, to boardinghouse living, and to learning new skills on steam-driven sewing machines. Friends and family come to rely on Jennys resourcefulness as an herbal healer, and after a hard struggle, she forges a satisfying new life for herself. Still, Jenny realizes that postwar society in the Northeast is deeply corrupt. Victory has poisoned the financial system, just as defeat made the South wretched. With declining northern support for the freed people, Jenny wonders why the war was fought with these results.

Analytic Christology And The Theological Interpretation Of The New Testament written by Thomas H. McCall and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-03-04 with Religion categories.

This study draws upon the resources of both contemporary analytic theology and the theological interpretation of the New Testament in order to investigate a set of important issues in Christology. It is the first work in analytic Christology to draw upon both recent scholarship in biblical studies and recent contributions to analytic philosophy and theology. Thomas H. McCall explores the themes of union with Christ and the faith of Christ as these are developed by the "apocalyptic" and "New Perspective" interpreters of Pauline theology. The volume offers a careful analysis of recent dogmatic proposals about the identity of Christ and the doctrine of election, and provides an examination of debates over the subordination of the Son in Hebrews. It also probes the relationship of the incarnate Son to his Father in Johannine theology. McCall presents an exegetically-grounded theological engagement with recent work on the place of logic in the doctrine of the incarnation.
