According to Freud's later works, we do not really feel well or free within civilization. Our discontent never disappears, and we shall never become completely reliable members of society. Alcohol already suffices, Freud tells us, to ruin the fragile architecture of sublimations. Since 'Beyond the Pleasure Principle,' sublimation seems to be nothing more than a euphemism for suppressing the drives. We sublimate because we did not get or were not allowed to have what we 'actually' wanted. Is sublimation a mere surrogate or perhaps even the name psychoanalysis found for 'theoria' in the twentieth century? With Freud as its pivot, Goebel provides an intellectual history of sublimation, which also serves as an introduction to other key ideas associated with the authors discussed, such as Schopenhauer's philosophy of music, the will to power in Nietzsche, the structure of Freudian psychoanalysis, Adorno's concept of modern art, or Lacanian ethics. In examining both its prehistory and reception, Goebel argues that sublimation can be reconsidered as the road toward an individual and social life beyond discontent.

**Workers' Tales: The French Revolution and Beyond** tells the story of the French working class from the late 18th century to the early 20th century, a period of profound change and upheaval. It is a story of revolutions, rebellions, and strikes; of victories won and defeats suffered; of dreams realized and hopes dashed. It is also a story of the everyday lives of workers, their struggles to make ends meet, their hopes and fears for the future. The French working class played a crucial role in the French Revolution, fighting for liberty, equality, and fraternity. They also played a leading role in the revolutions of 1830 and 1848, and in the Paris Commune of 1871. Throughout this period, workers developed a strong sense of class consciousness and solidarity, and they began to demand their rights as citizens and as workers. The Industrial Revolution brought new challenges and opportunities for workers. On the one hand, it created new jobs and raised living standards for some. On the other hand, it also led to the exploitation and alienation of workers, who were forced to work long hours in dangerous and unhealthy conditions. In response to these challenges, workers organized themselves into trade unions and other organizations to fight for their rights. They also developed new ideas about socialism and communism, which offered a vision of a more just and equitable society. **Workers' Tales** is a comprehensive and engaging account of the history of the French working class. It is a story that is both inspiring and heartbreaking, and it is a story that is still relevant today. This book is essential reading for anyone interested in the history of labor, the French Revolution, or the development of socialism and communism. If you like this book, write a review!

A multifaceted ecological and socio-cultural crisis confronts us, and the irresponsible and unsustainable operations and actions encouraging this predicament are bound up with contemporary societal, economic, organisational, and managerial practices. The recent and on-going global economic crisis with its failures of responsibility and pervasive (or existential) threat posed to natural ecologies are among many more manifestations of a profound disintegration, unwise forms of practices, and non-integral ways of living. The current crisis, scandals, and tensions between corporations and civil society, and numerous examples of unethical practices that are partly validated by common practice have helped to intensify demands to scrutinise corporate behaviour and practices. The increasingly instrumentalised contexts and impositions of neoliberal regimes with their systemic constraint call for a rethinking of phrónêtic capacities and dispositions for wise practices in prâxis and corresponding sustainable actions. This book explores how practical wisdom can be conceptualised and applied to practices that respond to the life-worldly realities of organisations. At the same time, it relates to prâxis, understood as situated conduct in an ethico-political configuration. It is this nexus that is mediating between individual and social actions (micro), organisations (meso), and economy/society (macro). This book invites dialogue for thought-provoking reflection on how wisdom can help organisations and leaders deal with our age’s most pressing challenges. It opens a path to considering how such an understanding can help us to more effectively and more critically understand and appropriately respond to complex, multifaceted, emerging phenomena. It will be of value to researchers, academics, and students interested in leadership, organisational studies, wisdom, and business ethics.

Drawing on recent research on the internal politics of the Belgian ecology parties, Agalev and Ecolo, this work demonstrates how political careers in contemporary social movements lead to activism in left-libertarian politics and influence political ideology. Beyond the European Left is the first comprehensive survey of ecology parties in Europe that presents detailed empirical information on the careers, organizational practices, and political beliefs of the activists involved. The authors employ a new research methodology--surveying party militants--that is better adapted to the study of micropolitics than are expert interviews. Herbert Kitschelt and Staf Hallemans show that European Green party activists express an egalitarian and libertarian vision of a desirable social order that builds on, but radically transforms, ideas of the traditional socialist European left. The authors then examine the debates and disagreements among militants on political objectives and the consequences of conflicting views for party organization and strategy. Their findings illuminate the unique dynamics of left-libertarian politics in a number of Western European countries with obvious relevance to current developments in Eastern Europe.

Beyond the Shades of Gray is based upon Christian fundamentals and beliefs. It was not written to convince anyone that homosexuality is "wrong." It was written primarily to assist those who are inwardly convinced that their own homosexuality is "wrong for them." Over 10 years in the personal journey of its writing, the author uses practical applications of Bible scripture throughout the book, without religiosity. Scripture is used to confront various aspects of this very controversial subjecthead-on. Therefore, the author makes no apologies for the portions of this book that may seem to be more graphic in nature than your average Christian book. Homosexuality is a subject that absolutely needs to be dealt with truthfully, and without religious avoidance of difficult topics. If you are a person who has ever had doubts or questions about your sexual orientation or behavior, then what the author has written here is for you. The work contains a wealth of practical, biblical principles, and also includes information for women. But the book is otherwise a work written by a man, for other men who also desire freedom and heterosexual restoration from their own unwanted homosexual behaviors. "What we long for is a deep and heartfelt sense of brotherhood," and the author proposes that the real issues behind homosexual behaviors are not about sex! Gods love (agpe love) always has both a balance of truth, and a responsibility that goes along with it. In this book, I take the same agpe love approach toward homosexuality, as Jesus did in the Book of John, Chapter 8, with the woman caught in the sin of adultery. Jesus showed great love and compassion toward the woman, both in the way that he dealt with the hypocritical crowd that had brought her to him, and in the way he spoke to her as he sent her on her way, and told her, Go, and sin no more. - Dean Bailey
