USA TODAY BESTSELLER Blue Ocean Strategy, the #1 global bestseller, forever changed how the world thinks about strategy. Now W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne offer up a bold, new idea that will transform how we all think about innovation and growth. Disruption dominates innovation theory and practice. But disruption, for all its power, is destructive—displacing jobs, companies, and even entire industries. Are we missing an alternative approach to innovation and growth? With three decades of research, the #1 global bestselling authors of Blue Ocean Strategy, W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne, reveal another way to innovate and grow. Just as Blue Ocean Strategy redefined the essence of strategy as creating not competing, BEYOND DISRUPTION redefines and expands the existing view of innovation by introducing a new approach, nondisruptive creation, that is free from the destructive displacement that happens when innovators set out to disrupt. Kim and Mauborgne reveal the distinct advantages of nondisruptive creation to business and society, showing how this new approach to innovation allows companies to grow while also being a force for good. With examples that reach across all sectors of the economy and a practical framework for guiding innovation efforts, this book shows: Why nondisruptive creation matters to all of us and why it is likely to become even more important in the future How it complements disruption and how you can identify and execute on nondisruptive opportunities How companies can more thoughtfully pursue their growth and innovation strategies in a way that better balances business and society A practical guide for driving innovation and growth, the rich research behind the book, coupled with its frame-breaking message, make it the must-read book for the next generation of innovators.

In Beyond Disruption: Technology's Challenge to Governance, George P. Shultz, Jim Hoagland, and James Timbie present views from some of the country's top experts in the sciences, humanities, and military that scrutinize the rise of post-millennium technologies in today's global society. They contemplate both the benefits and peril carried by the unprecedented speed of these innovations—from genetic editing, which enables us new ways to control infectious diseases, to social media, whose ubiquitous global connections threaten the function of democracies across the world. Some techniques, like the advent of machine learning, have enabled engineers to create systems that will make us more productive. For example, self-driving vehicles promise to make trucking safer, faster, and cheaper. However, using big data and artificial intelligence to automate complex tasks also ends up threatening to disrupt both routine professions like taxi driving and cognitive work by accountants, radiologists, lawyers, and even computer programmers themselves.

This collection, which centres on the academic as teacher, grew out of the moment of unprecedented change that COVID-19 brought to the world in 2020, when our daily routine of teaching and learning was disrupted. Many of the chapters have a strongly narrative core, recounting the iterative, emergent and imperfect process of designing online courses for Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT). Told to and for other teachers, these stories matter because they transform experience – through reflection – into learning. This work thus contributes to emerging scholarship on pedagogy and disruption in higher education, with a specific focus on the Global South and the ongoing need for contextually relevant, transformative teaching at universities. Animating the collection is the question that preoccupied us during the pandemic: When all this is over, how do you want your teaching to be different? The authors take stock of what, as lecturers, we want to take with us from ERT and what we might want to leave behind – and work to collectively imagine new possibilities for teaching and learning along the continuum from face-to-face to blended, to fully online. This volume is an opportunity for us to keep sharing our innovations and reflecting on the shifts in teaching, learning, course design and assessment practices that occurred during COVID-19 and continue to reverberate beyond. Read together, the studies collected in this volume shed light on the broad and complex ecologies of pedagogic agency, frailty and resilience within which lecturers function as teachers in higher education in the South African context. They offer ideas born out of disruption that aim to support lecturers in similar contexts in developing a more just and equitable higher education. “Of the hundreds of new publications on pedagogy, politics and pandemics, this is easily one of the best available on innovation in higher education inside and since the disruption of those times. The power of reflection and the wisdom of practice combine to ensure the longevity of this remarkable text for university students, teachers and researchers alike. Simply outstanding work!” - Prof. Jonathan Jansen, Distinguished Professor, Stellenbosch University “Pedagogic Innovation Beyond Disruption provides a fascinating reflective perspective by educators in higher education on adapting their practices to manage teaching and learning online during the pandemic. The chapters in the book offer a rich tapestry of strategies and approaches that showcase how educators moved beyond a mere transfer of traditional teaching methods to an online format to ensure that their students remained engaged in their learning and felt cared for and supported online. As such, this book provides a thought-provoking and comprehensive exploration of innovative teaching and learning possibilities in higher education during the unprecedented disruption of the pandemic conditions.” - Dr Jennifer Feldman, Faculty of Education, Stellenbosch University

Despite airlines' tremendous efforts to streamline their operations to minimise controllable costs and improve flight punctuality, system inefficiencies are continuously on the increase. They inevitably lead to a higher number of operational disruptions, and consequently unforeseen losses. Beyond Airline Disruptions addresses this issue by taking a wider, more strategic perspective. By focusing on prevention rather than operational fire-fighting, and laying out the hidden aspects of operational disruptions, this book reveals the significant unexploited potential for cost savings and improvements in on-time performance. It explains for the first time what operational disruptions really are, describes their costs, tangible and intangible causes, and supports the creation of strategies for decreasing system inefficiencies and minimising the risks of operational disruptions.

A radical new perspective on innovation to help aspiring entrepreneurs avoid common pitfalls One of the biggest problems faced by entrepreneurs and corporate executives alike is the conflation of entrepreneurship with innovation. The quest for innovation is often misguided by a variety of mantras, clichés and proclamations, often infused with notions of disruption and delusions of grandeur. Beyond Eureka! debunks the myths and conventional wisdom surrounding innovation, revealing its complex, non-linear nature and identifying ways to avoid common pitfalls. Serial entrepreneur Delbourg-Delphis first defines innovation as the implementation of something new that is developed for and commercialized in a marketplace. She uses various case studies—-both smaller scale and well-known—to unpack the common misconceptions surrounding innovation and guide entrepreneurs through the uncertainty of innovating in a potential market rather than a pre-existing one. Beyond Eureka! brings a new perspective to understanding the nature and practice of innovation based on the author's extensive experience, historical knowledge, and conceptual analysis. Innovators, whether entrepreneurs or the strategic leadership teams of established companies, will benefit from the insights and guidance.

One month after closing the dimensional breach, in this sequel to Echoes of the Forgotten, paranormal investigator Ryan Matthews and his team confront a terrifying evolution: the entity has abandoned physical manifestations to infiltrate humanity's collective unconscious. From their Daybridge headquarters, the team tracks reality seeds growing across the continent and discovers the entity's new strategy when a child's drawing of a porcelain doll goes viral—it's no longer trying to change reality from outside, but to become reality itself. As Ryan, Jason, and Jojo race to neutralize five remaining facility anchors, they must confront how their own encounters with the entity have changed them. When they detect an echo of Malcolm Vance in northern Michigan, they're drawn back to where it all began, discovering a third path that might determine whether humanity retains its autonomy or surrenders to an existence beyond comprehension.
