This book opens up philosophical spaces for comparative discussions of education across ‘East and West’. It develops an intercultural dialogue by exploring the Anglo-American traditions of educational trans-/formation and European constructions of Bildung, alongside East Asian traditions of trans-/formation and development. Comparatively little research has been done in this area, and many questions concerning the commensurability of North American, European and East Asian pedagogies remain. Despite this dearth of theoretical research, there is ample evidence of continued interest in (self-)formation through various East Asian practices, from martial arts to health and spiritual practices (e.g. Aikido, Tai Chi, Yoga, mindfulness etc.), suggesting that these ‘traditional’ practices and pedagogical relations have something important to offer, despite their marginal standing in educational discourse. This book will appeal to all researchers and students of comparative education studies with an interest in issues of interpretation and translation between different traditions and cultures.

"Bildung" ist eines der zentralen Kommunikationssymbole in unserer Gesellschaft. Was aber bedeutet eigentlich "Bildung" und inwiefern können aus der Lektüre biblischer Texte Impulse für die allgemeine Verständigung über "Bildung" gewonnen werden? Dieser Frage gehen Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler unterschiedlicher Provenienz (von der "klassischen" Exegese bis zu Sozialwissenschaften) nach. In den Fokus rückt dabei in vielen Beiträgen ein Verständnis von "Bildung" als eine spezifische Umgangsform mit der biblischen Überlieferung. Dahinter steht die in vielen biblischen Texten formulierte Figur, dass Texte auf die Aneignung einer Botschaft auf Seiten der Lernenden zielen. Auf "Bildung" hin übersetzt verweisen die biblischen Texte dann auf ein Verständnis von Menschen als Lernende, wobei Lernen als kritische Selbst-Reflexion von Gottesbeziehung, Weltbeziehung, Selbstbeziehung zu verstehen ist. Dabei bewährt sich die Relevanz der biblischen Texte darin, dass sie in das Lernen als Leitfaden des eigenen Lebens übersetzt werden können. Dass die biblischen Texte insgesamt unterschiedliche, plurale Orientierungsmuster für das eigene Lernen anbieten, ist und bleibt eine große Stärke der Mehrdeutigkeit, solange im Blick behalten wird, dass es sich immer um eine zugleich umgrenzte und fokussierte Vielfalt, keineswegs jedoch um eine autoreligiöse Beliebigkeit des "anything goes" handelt. Neben dieser Bestimmung von "Bildung" als existentieller Kern der Bibel-Rezeption wird auch die traditionelle Vorstellung untersucht, dass biblische Texte einen besonderen Bildungsgehalt im Sinne eines Gegenstands bereithalten. Die Verbindung und Differenz von biblischen Texten und klassisch-griechischen Vorstellungen der παιδεία stehen dann im Zentrum. In all diesen Perspektiven kann ein biblisch-theologischer Beitrag für die allgemeine Verständigung über "Bildung" gesehen werden.

Abstract: Die "historische Generation" der kubanischen Revolution steht vor dem Abschied von der Macht, es wurde ein Reformweg hin zur vorsichtigen Öffnung des Landes eingeschlagen. Sie kann Räume schaffen, um die Veränderungen zu artikulieren und zu reflektieren, sie wächst in die Rolle einer Ersatzöffentlichkeit. Die deutsch-kubanischen Kulturbeziehungen haben eine lange Tradition und Kuba ist für Deutschland aufgrund der historischen Beziehungen zur DDR ein besonderer Partner. Gleichwohl gestalteten sich die deutsch-kubanischen Beziehungen seit den 1990er Jahren in der Praxis schwierig. Die Intensivierung der Beziehungen der letzten Jahre, die in dem Besuch von Außenminister Steinmeier in Havanna 2015 gipfelte, öffnet jedoch neue Perspektiven für die Auswärtige Kultur- und Bildungspolitik (AKBP).
