Self-organizing approaches inspired from biological systems, such as social insects, genetic, molecular and cellular systems under morphogenesis, and human mental development, has enjoyed great success in advanced robotic systems that need to work in dynamic and changing environments. Compared with classical control methods for robotic systems, the major advantages of bio-inspired self-organizing robotic systems include robustness, self-repair and self-healing in the presence of system failures and/or malfunctions, high adaptability to environmental changes, and autonomous self-organization and self-reconfiguration without a centralized control. “Bio-inspired Self-organizing Robotic Systems” provides a valuable reference for scientists, practitioners and research students working on developing control algorithms for self-organizing engineered collective systems, such as swarm robotic systems, self-reconfigurable modular robots, smart material based robotic devices, unmanned aerial vehicles, and satellite constellations.

Identifying Emerging Trends in Technological Innovation Doctoral programs in science and engineering are important sources of innovative ideas and techniques that might lead to new products and technological innovation. Certainly most PhD students are not experienced researchers and are in the process of learning how to do research. Nevertheless, a number of empiric studies also show that a high number of technological innovation ideas are produced in the early careers of researchers. The combination of the eagerness to try new approaches and directions of young doctoral students with the experience and broad knowledge of their supervisors is likely to result in an important pool of innovation potential. The DoCEIS doctoral conference on Computing, Electrical and Industrial En- neering aims at creating a space for sharing and discussing ideas and results from doctoral research in these inter-related areas of engineering. Innovative ideas and hypotheses can be better enhanced when presented and discussed in an encouraging and open environment. DoCEIS aims to provide such an environment, releasing PhD students from the pressure of presenting their propositions in more formal contexts.

Energy Information Feedback Adaptation And Self Organization written by Spyros G Tzafestas and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-01-03 with Technology & Engineering categories.
This unique book offers a comprehensive and integrated introduction to the five fundamental elements of life and society: energy, information, feedback, adaptation, and self-organization. It is divided into two parts. Part I is concerned with energy (definition, history, energy types, energy sources, environmental impact); thermodynamics (laws, entropy definitions, energy, branches of thermodynamics, entropy interpretations, arrow of time); information (communication and transmission, modulation–demodulation, coding–decoding, information theory, information technology, information science, information systems); feedback control (history, classical methodologies, modern methodologies); adaptation (definition, mechanisms, measurement, complex adaptive systems, complexity, emergence); and self-organization (definitions/opinions, self-organized criticality, cybernetics, self-organization in complex adaptive systems, examples in nature). In turn, Part II studies the roles, impacts, and applications of the five above-mentioned elements in life and society, namely energy (biochemical energy pathways, energy flows through food chains, evolution of energy resources, energy and economy); information (information in biology, biocomputation, information technology in office automation, power generation/distribution, manufacturing, business, transportation), feedback (temperature, water, sugar and hydrogen ion regulation, autocatalysis, biological modeling, control of hard/technological and soft/managerial systems), adaptation and self-organization (ecosystems, climate change, stock market, knowledge management, man-made self-organized controllers, traffic lights control).

Control Engineering In Robotics And Industrial Automation written by Muralindran Mariappan and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-08-12 with Technology & Engineering categories.
This book is the first research collection by the Malaysian Society for Automatic Control Engineers (MACE). Numerous applications of control engineering, sensor, and instrumentation technology in robotics, industrial automation, and other mechatronic systems are presented in this book. The book begins by introducing control engineering in robotics and industrial automation. It progresses through a series of chapters, discussing the application of control engineering in various areas such as: brake-by-wire technology; web scrubber systems; robot localization; and, autonomous navigation systems. Coverage of swarm robotics behaviors and applications of sensor technology in the field of music, biomedical technology, and structural analysis takes the book beyond its core of mechatronic systems and demonstrates a more diverse application of the ideas it presents. Each chapter provides comprehensive and detailed coverage of the main ideas, design methods, and practical needs of its chosen topic, making this book accessible and useful to researchers, engineers, postgraduates, and undergraduate students.

Morphogenetic Engineering written by René Doursat and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-13 with Technology & Engineering categories.
Generally, spontaneous pattern formation phenomena are random and repetitive, whereas elaborate devices are the deterministic product of human design. Yet, biological organisms and collective insect constructions are exceptional examples of complex systems that are both self-organized and architectural. This book is the first initiative of its kind toward establishing a new field of research, Morphogenetic Engineering, to explore the modeling and implementation of “self-architecturing” systems. Particular emphasis is placed on the programmability and computational abilities of self-organization, properties that are often underappreciated in complex systems science—while, conversely, the benefits of self-organization are often underappreciated in engineering methodologies. Altogether, the aim of this work is to provide a framework for and examples of a larger class of “self-architecturing” systems, while addressing fundamental questions such as br” How do biological organisms carry out morphogenetic tasks so reliably? br” Can we extrapolate their self-formation capabilities to engineered systems?br” Can physical systems be endowed with information (or informational systems be embedded in physics) so as to create autonomous morphologies and functions?br” What are the core principles and best practices for the design and engineering of such morphogenetic systems?
