Buscando el poder y la inmortalidad, el hombre cree en lo increíble y ejecuta las acciones más viles, crueles e inmorales que concebir pueda una mente sana. Los dos personajes centrales de este libro son miembros de la misma familia, a pesar de no conocerse. Ambos pertenecen a la misma Orden; uno fue ofrecido al Temple a edad temprana, el otro buscó refugio en él al huir de la justicia que lo buscaba por asesinato. A partir de la caída de San Juan de Acre, cada uno sigue caminos diferentes. El primero sigue vinculado a la Orden hasta el final de esta. El otro se une a los almogávares que más tarde arrasarían Bizancio. En las horas finales de la orden, se encontrarán para unir sus fuerzas y luchar por su supervivencia. Con este libro no se ha intentado hacer un análisis cronológico de los hechos acontecidos. Tan solo se ha intentado novelar una parte de la historia real, con personajes ficticios y reales de cuanto sucedió. Tan solo con la esperanza de que el honor y la decencia hagan despertar a aquellos seres desprovistos del «yo» para pensar en el «nosotros», me he aventurado a escribir este libro.
