Two old college buddies contemplate hiking the Appalachian Trail. The problem is, one of them is severely vision impaired and his ability to follow a simple footpath is in serious question. They decide to first try an overnight hike in Arkansas; an unmitigated disaster. Upon their return, one fellow's wife declares he is too old fat and blind to be crashing about in the woods. The other's wife notes how lucky they are to have learned their lesson before attempting anything as seriously challenging as the Appalachian Trail. Humiliated, their dignity in tatters, (and perhaps not the fastest learners), they decide to go anyway. This is their story, traveling America's greatest footpath; the places, the people, the history.

THE SMART BLIND MAN WALKING STICK In this project, we will learn how to design Blind Walking Stick Using Arduino & Ultrasonic Sensor HC-SR04. Almost 30 million people are blind according to the recent WHO Report. These blind people are totally dependent on others as they can't walk alone. This is the reason why we have designed the Blind Walking Stick device which will help blind people to walk with ease independently. For better accuracy and assistance two or three Ultrasonic Sensors can be added to this project. The main objective of this project is to help blind people to walk with ease and to be warned whenever their walking path is obstructed by obstacles. As a warning signal via buzzer, whose frequency of beep changes according to the distance of the object. The closer the distance of obstruction, the more will be the buzzer beep frequency. The main component used for this device is the Ultrasonic Sensor HC-SR04. The ultrasonic sensor transmits a high frequency sound pulse and then calculates the time to receive the signal of the sound echo to reflect back. HC-SR04 has a transmitter & receiver surface. One of them acts as the transmitter and transmits the ultrasonic waves. The other one acts as a receiver and receives the echoed sound signal. The sensor is calibrated according to the speed of the sound in air. The speed of sound is 341 meters per second in the air, and the distance between the sensor and object is equal to time multiplied by the speed of sound divided by two.

Art Seamans writes the book I See, Said the Blind Man from a perspective of having been both sighted at one time and now visually handicapped. The book consists of a series of essays in which the author both describes what having age-related macular degeneration is like and offers advice to both the visually handicapped and those who associate with visually-handicapped people. The reader should have the sensation of sitting with the author over a cup of coffee while he reminisces and philosophizes about the experience of blindness. The author describes many of his own experiences and refers to a number of other books written by and about blind people. The reader will find in the book serious passages and slightly humorous ones, for the author does not hold himself to any mechanical or unitary vision of what it means to be blind. Chapters include description of his becoming visually-handicapped, his experiences at the San Diego Center for the Blind, thoughts on what it means to see and not see, rules and etiquette for both the sighted and visually handicapped, and a review of other books written by blind people.

The Basic Experience And The Development Of The Self written by Luciano Rispoli and has been published by Peter Lang this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Business & Economics categories.

In today's world, children's development is increasingly under threat. Basic experiences (such as joy, tenderness, learning how to love, well-being etc.) which are crucial for healthy development are often deficient or tainted. As a result, more and more children show signs of restlessness, anxiety and relational problems. This study examines the profound functioning at the root of human life and analyses the characteristics of these functional processes - the forms they present at different stages of development, how they may be supported by adults, what dysfunctions can occur and how such imbalances can be cared for or healed. The individual as a whole is considered in the light of all its Functions: emotional, cognitive, physical and postural. This text provides numerous case histories, through which the author illustrates various modalities of prevention, cure and therapeutic intervention for children and adolescents. This work is based on the theory that only a truly comprehensive outlook can help us understand what really happens during human development and devise truly effective treatments, avoiding the error of fragmenting the mind and the body, which are seen here as inseparable elements of a unified whole.
