Blue Light of the Screen is a memoir about the author's obsession with horror and the supernatural. Blue Light of the Screen is about what it means to be afraid -- about immersion, superstition, delusion, and the things that keep us up at night. A creative-critical memoir of the author's obsession with the horror genre, Blue Light of the Screen embeds its criticism of horror within a larger personal story of growing up in a devoutly Catholic family, overcoming suicidal depression, uncovering intergenerational trauma, and encountering real and imagined ghosts. As Cronin writes, she positions herself as a protagonist who is haunted by what she watches and reads, like an antiquarian in an M.R. James ghost story whose sense of reality unravels through her study of arcane texts and cursed archives. In this way, Blue Light of the Screen tells the story of the author's conversion from skepticism to faith in the supernatural. Part memoir, part ghost story, and part critical theory, Blue Light of the Screen is not just a book about horror, but a work of horror itself.

Save Yourself! Blue Light is Killing You! Growing up, you probably would have heard your parents telling you, "Don't sit too close to the television!" or "Don't watch too much TV, it will ruin your eyes!" There is truth to these statements--even though our parents may not have known the real reason behind the danger back then. These days, parents from the past would be shocked by how much time children--and adults--spend in front of screens.Whether you're browsing your feed on Instagram, watching Netflix, or typing an essay for school, all of these activities and more share one thing--screen time. Nowadays, digital screens on devices have become such a big part of our life. And with their use comes something we should be aware of because it has a number of adverse effects on our body--blue light. While blue light isn't a "special kind of light" that screens emit, it is quite controversial. The primary source of this kind of light is sunlight. This means that whenever you take a walk outside, you expose yourself to blue light. The spectrum of light consists of visible, infrared, and UV light. Out of all these types of light, only visible light can be seen by the human eye, hence the name. The different types of light also contain varying amounts of energy. Blue light is also known as high-energy visible light because the frequency of its blue band on the visible spectrum is particularly high. While blue light is a type of natural light, we are now coming into contact with artificial blue light more and more in the form the screens on our smartphones, computers, and other electronic devices. As a matter of fact, a lot of people spend most of their lives looking at screens.Because of this trend, eye doctors are starting to feel worried about the effects of this artificial blue light on our health, especially on the health of the eyes. In particular, prolonged exposure to this type of light damages our retinas--the part of our eyes that detects light intensity, color, and more. Here are some examples of the harmful effects of blue light:●Eye strain occurs because your eyes work hard so that they can cope with the blue light coming from screens.●Migraines or headaches are a common symptom of eye strain so you should expect these to happen more frequently.●Inability to focus happens when you experience migraines or headaches frequently because you stare at your devices for too long.●Dry eyes are also a common symptom of prolonged exposure to blue light since you don't blink enough for your eyes to produce moisture. / itchy eyes●Blurred vision occurs when your eye's natural filters cannot cope as you focus too much on your devices and forget to rest your eyes.●Poor sleeping patterns may happen too because blue light tends to disrupt our body's natural circadian rhythm (more on this later).Because of how focused we are on computers, smartphones, tablets, and other devices, it comes as no surprise that many people all over the world are suffering from eye issues. And this is true for people of all ages. In particular, children aged 14 years old and below are at a heightened risk. The reason for this is that until they reach the age of 14, their eyes--specifically the corneas--haven't fully developed yet. This means that they don't have the protection that adult eyes have, making them particularly vulnerable to eye issues if they spend a lot of time in front of digital screens. If you aren't aware of the harmful effects of artificial blue light on your eyes and on your health, it's time to start learning. Without your knowledge and without even seeing it blue light is killing you! Fortunately, you have this book to guide you! Scroll Up-right and Get Yours Now! to Protect Yourself and Loved Ones! Great Bonus Info inside also!

A hostage-taker hides a shocking secret in “a breakneck literary thriller that combines the worlds of conspiracy theory [and] reality TV.”—National Post Without warning, a man, armed with explosives, seizes a television studio taking over a hundred terrified hostages. He offers no motive. And he makes just a single curious demand. The only person he’ll speak to is Thom Pegg, a once honored investigative journalist turned disgraced tabloid reporter. As surprised as anyone, and pressured to comply by authorities, Pegg reluctantly enters the fray as the chosen confidante. From outside, the enthralling drama is revealed through the eyes of two very different people: Eve, an Olympic gold medalist and local hero; and a mysterious renegade street artist known only as Rabbit. As 24/7 media coverage helps to feed the public’s paranoia with reckless rumor, the lives of three strangers are brought inexorably together in an unfathomable and chaotic endgame. In this “unforgettable . . . exhilarating, at-times alarming read” (Atssa York), prize-winning author Timothy Taylor paints a powerful picture of the sinister side of our interconnected world. The result is “an ambitious . . . wonderful novel—a thought-provoking and challenging story that will . . . change the way you look at our celebrity-driven culture” (The Vancouver Sun).

The Price family has spent generations studying the monsters of the world, working to protect them from humanity--and humanity from them. Enter Verity Price. Despite being trained from birth as a cryptozoologist, she'd rather dance a tango than tangle with a demon, and when her work with the cryptid community took her to Manhattan, she thought she would finally be free to pursue competition-level dance in earnest. It didn't quite work out that way... But now, with the snake cult that was killing virgins all over Manhattan finally taken care of, Verity is ready to settle down for some serious ballroom dancing—until her on-again, off-again, semi-boyfriend Dominic De Luca, a member of the monster-hunting Covenant of St. George, informs her that the Covenant is on their way to assess the city's readiness for a cryptid purge. With everything and everyone she loves on the line, there's no way Verity can take that lying down. Alliances will be tested, allies will be questioned, lives will be lost, and the talking mice in Verity's apartment will immortalize everything as holy writ--assuming there's anyone left standing when all is said and done. It's a midnight blue-light special, and the sale of the day is on betrayal, deceit...and carnage.

Four years ago The Blue Light Syndrome was published as the Proceed ings of the 1 st International Conference on the Effect of Blue Light in Plants and Microorganisms. Subsequently the interest in this fascinating and growing field of re search has further increased, as is reflected by numerous publications. Blue light effects cover such a wide spectrum of organisms, responses and methods that communication among scientists with backgrounds in biology, biochemistry, and biophysics is particularly necessary. These facts not only justified, but demanded calling the "Blue Light Family" together again. In spite of many fmancial problems, the second confer ence attracted 113 active members from 19 countries. The 2nd International Conference on The Effect of Blue Light in Plants and Microorganisms was held in July 1984, like the first at the University of Marburg. The organizer could again rely on the help of the International Advisory Committee (W. Briggs, Stanford; M. Furuya, Tokyo; J. Gressel, Rehovot; S. Miyachi, Tokyo; W. Rau, Miinchen; J. Schiff, Waltham; P .-S. Song, Lubbock). The very generous financial as sistance from the DFG and the support of the Philipps-Universitat Mar burg and its Sonderforschungsbereich "Zellenergetik and Zelldifferen zierung" were the prerequisites to organizing the conference. The present book consists of 56 original papers. The partitioning into eight chapters is always a problem. The grouping of different aspects of the papers into these chapters has not always been obvious, so that one or the other contribution could possibly fit in another chapter.
