In questo volume di affronta il mito della campagna di Russia come s’è andato stratificando nella memoria collettiva italiana, vedendo quanto, se, e come corrisponda alla realtà dei fatti. Questa analisi sarà talvolta, per forza di cose, polemica; saremo costretti a citare più volte autori come il romanziere Nuto Revelli, poiché il contenuto dei suoi libri e degli scritti da lui curati ne fa il capostipite di quello che definiremo il dogma della partecipazione italiana alla campagna di Russia: in breve, questa vulgata riduce alla sola ritirata dal Don nel 1943 l’intero ciclo di operazioni dello C.S.I.R. e dell’ARM.I.R., e i soldati italiani sono peraltro presentati come una massa mal addestrata ed equipaggiata, e per nulla motivata. Dimostreremo in questo studio come tale interpretazione sia tanto faziosa quanto inattendibile storicamente. La tesi da noi sostenuta è che gli italiani in Russia condussero una guerra ideologica, ben consapevoli di ciò e moralmente motivati, come dimostra l’esame diretto delle fonti, dai rapporti mensili sul morale della truppa delle varie Divisioni alla corrispondenza privata, e che combatterono bene, uscendo vittoriosi da tutti gli scontri con l’Armata Rossa dall’estate del 1941 all’inverno del 1942, quando i sovietici sfondarono il fronte italiano sul Don. Abbiamo ritenuto poi opportuno dedicare una parte del testo alla trattazione della presunta strage tedesca di una Divisione italiana a Leopoli. Si tratta di una menzogna creata dal KGB alla fine degli anni ‘50 del XX secolo, durante la Guerra Fredda, e che è periodicamente ricomparsa sotto forme diverse, ricevendo spazio sulla stampa al punto che, nel 1987, venne formata una commissione parlamentare d’inchiesta, che ne dimostrò - per l’ennesima volta - la falsità.

Giorgio Ghelardini è nato a Volterra (PI) nel 1952, residente a Suvereto (LI), sposato con due figli maschi ultra trentenni, è stato funzionario della pubblica amministrazione (Comune San Vincenzo -LI) dove ha lavorato per 38 anni. Ora in pensione. Svolge tuttora l’incarico onorifico di giudice tributario. Ha scritto Preferisco le albicocche edito da Europa Edizioni.
