The amazing true story of a heart-breaking message in a bottle and one mother's successful quest to find the person who sent it. On a winter's day in 2002, a bottle shaped like a tear washed up on the Kent coast. It contained a letter written in French, a lock of hair, and a mystery. Only one thing could be known for certain - that the writer of the letter was a mother, grieving for her lost child, Maurice. Moved by the woman's heartache Karen Liebreich sets out on an epic journey to piece together the mother's story. Her book is the amazing true story of one woman's search for another, and a poignant reflection on love, loss and motherhood. In this revised edition Liebreich concludes her epic quest, finally meeting the woman who sent the bottle years before and coming to understand the loss that was at the heart of one mother's impulse to communicate with the unknown.

Asylums written by Erving Goffman and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-08 with Social Science categories.

A total institution is defined by Goffman as a place of residence and work where a large number of like-situated, individuals, cut off from the wider society for an appreciable period of time, together lead an enclosed, formally administered round of life. Prisons serve as a clear example, providing we appreciate that what is prison-like about prisons is found in institutions whose members have broken no laws. This volume deals with total institutions in general and, mental hospitals, in particular. The main focus is, on the world of the inmate, not the world of the staff. A chief concern is to develop a sociological version of the structure of the self. Each of the essays in this book were intended to focus on the same issue--the inmate's situation in an institutional context. Each chapter approaches the central issue from a different vantage point, each introduction drawing upon a different source in sociology and having little direct relation to the other chapters. This method of presenting material may be irksome, but it allows the reader to pursue the main theme of each paper analytically and comparatively past the point that would be allowable in chapters of an integrated book. If sociological concepts are to be treated with affection, each must be traced back to where it best applies, followed from there wherever it seems to lead, and pressed to disclose the rest of its family.

Fallen Order written by Karen Liebreich and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Child sexual abuse by clergy categories.

Fallen Order reveals, for the very first time anywhere, how 300 years ago, Calasanz, the patron saint of all Catholic schools, demonstrably covered up the first recorded child sex scandal in the church's history--one that reached such proportions that the Pope took the (literally) unprecedented step of shutting a religious order down. Until this point, no religious order had ever been shut down by papal decree (with the possible exception of the legendary Knights Templar). Fallen Order draws on documents that have never been seen before, and this story is completely new. The present Catholic Church has based its defense in recent sex scandals on the fact that it has only recently become aware of child abuse. This book exposes this claim as an absolute lie.

Assessment and Evaluation for Transformation in Early Childhood establishes a new, democratic and participatory approach to assessment and evaluation in early childhood. By analysing the practice of assessment and evaluation within early childhood pedagogy, it provides a clear theoretical and methodological basis for this approach and a set of practical techniques for assessment and evaluation. Structured into three parts – context and principles, approaches and techniques and case studies, the authors show how documentation and portfolios can be an ethical mode of conducting assessment and evaluation. The third part of the text provides educational snapshots of countries that use a participatory approach to learning and teaching, and which include the pedagogical dimension of assessment and evaluation. Each of the seven illustrative case studies from three different countries bring to life the theories, principles and techniques presented throughout the book. Key points explored include: · The nature and purpose of assessment and evaluation within a participatory pedagogy. ·Participatory methods for assessment and evaluation. ·The search for a holistic approach to evaluation ·Pedagogic documentation: uncovering solidary learning. · Ethical principles for holistic pedagogic evaluation This book is a crucial read for anyone working in early childhood education who wishes to learn more about professional, practice and policy development and all those interested in the pedagogical dimensions of assessment and evaluation.
