First, the history including definitions, strategy and objectives will be described. Then, the meaning and importance of BBBEE Codes of Good Practise will be explained. The main part of this paper will focus on the theoretical explanation of the programme and how the main criteria should be implemented in case of investment. In the end, there will be a short recommendation and a trend for the future. South Africa is a country with potential and future. Indicating facts and reasons therefore are major sales market, the well-developed financial sector and infrastructure as well as the highest development level on the African continent. However, dealing with the South African economy more closely, you will identify several obstacles. The latest issue increasing in importance more and more investors faces with is the so-called BBBEE. It is a programme of the South African government to support and accelerate the participation of black people in the economy. The Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment concept was created by the government based on South Africans history . In the past, the country has suffered many years from the apartheid where the black society were without rights and complete neglected from the economy. When in 1994 South Africa selected their first democracy’s and political systems were about to change, the new government came up with the program Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment to eliminate past irregularities between the black racial group and the with racial group and to accelerate the access to the economy for black people by putting rules and laws for every company in south Africa.

Dr Loyiso Mbabane (Executive Dean) reviews the economic empowerment policies and strategies of the South African Government- post apartheid. A number of laws and policies had to be enacted by the post- apartheid government of Mandela and subsequent leaders in order to redress the racial and other imbalances that were deliberately perpertuated by successive colonial and apartheid regimes (from 1652 up to 1994). In this book the economic empowerment construct is analysed from an empirical point of view, using Human Capital Development as a framework. It is argued that in the long term the development of human capital (both at school; work and in society) holds a better chance of delivering the sustainable empowerment of the still largely poor and economically disempowered masses of black people (including women and youth). The BBBEE policies and strategies of the South African government (2003- 2007) are scrutinized against the international literature on human capital. A transformational leadership approach is then propagated as the most conducive one to deliver BBBEE, as opposed to erstwhile transactional empowerment which has benefitted only a few.

Broad Based Bee written by Vuyo Jack and has been published by FrontRunner this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Affirmative action programs categories.

In this guidebook, Vuyo Jack combines legislative summary, accounting detail and historical context. He analyzes South Africa's numerous Codes of Good Practice (and their subsidiary statements) enacted to promote black business empowerment and explains them in considerable detail. He provides context for understanding the Black Economic Empowerment codes and sample scorecards for various aspects of compliance. Yet this straightforward, accounting-manual treatment of the codes is frequently interrupted by his personal opinions, judgments or remembrances. The author becomes an advocate for a viewpoint rather than a dispassionate reporter on the contents of the code. Readers who are accustomed to more hands-off reporting may wonder whether Jack's advocacy compromises or shades his approach to the bare facts. Nevertheless, getAbstract recommends his thorough explanation to companies working in South Africa.

Seminar paper from the year 2016 in the subject Economics - Case Scenarios, grade: 1,0, University of Wisconsin-Madison (Economics), course: Economics 477: Economic Development of Africa, language: English, abstract: This paper investigates the Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) program in South Africa and its economic justification by analyzing the trends in both, intra- and interracial inequality, since the implementation of BEE. Even though inequality is driven by many different factors, this paper attempts to analyze whether BEE was able to effectively reduce inequality in the way that it was intended. My findings suggest that BEE might have helped to reduce inequality between different races, but that it increased inequality among black people. During Apartheid, black people were excluded from major parts of South Africa’s economy. This resulted in an unequal income distribution in South Africa. Even after Apartheid ended in 1994 income was distributed unequally between races. In order to reduce this inequality and equalize opportunities between the different races in South Africa, the government implemented an affirmative action program called Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) in 2003. In this case and in the following sections, the word “black” defines a racial group, including Africans, coloreds and Indians and can thus be used as synonym for “non-whites.” BEE introduced a scorecard which rates companies based on their economic inclusion of black people. If the respective company receives a low rating on the scorecard, there will likely be a negative effect on their profit compared to a company with a high rating. The basic critique of BEE is that its main beneficiary is a small elite. Studies about the actual effects of BEE are rare, as data on this topic is limited.
