Structure is one of the life-support systems in a building. Only design decisions concerning fire have equally grave implications. People die from errors in structural design. The design of structures is personally enjoyable, visually and technically significant, and professionally satisfying; however, it will always be a deadly serious business. It has life-and-death consequences.[1] Welcome to the world of corporate real estate management and advanced analytical insight. This book explores the integration of perception into a business function that impacts everything. Yes, it really is that big. According to the Cambridge Dictionary, insight is the ability to have a clear, deep, and sometimes sudden understanding of a complicated problem or situation. It's a sixth sense, it’s knowledge, and it’s understanding. Building Insight simply refers to creating insight in corporate real estate management. There are more than eighteen variations on the themes of real estate management, including, but not limited to: § Corporate Real Estate Management (CREM): The focus of this book. § Property Management (PM): Overseeing the day-to-day operations of real estate assets to maximise revenue. § Asset Management (AM): Maximising the financial value of real estate investments. § Investment and Portfolio Management (REIM): Managing real estate assets as financial investments. § Public & Government Real Estate Management: Overseeing real estate assets owned by central, regional or local government. § Industrial & Logistics Real Estate Management: Managing warehouses, factories, and distribution centres. This book primarily focuses on the use of data, information, and analytics in contemporary Corporate Real Estate Management. Although the focus is CREM, this is not a book about CREM. Who was this book written for? § People working in Corporate Real Estate or in a closely associated area. § Students and lecturers. § Consultants in the field of Corporate Real Estate. § It’s for IT people who are in the zone. § Laypeople with a strong interest in the subject. Over the years, I have met some great people working in corporate real estate. This book is also a tribute to them and to people who aspire to be like them. [1] Iver Wahl;Iver Wahl. Among the most important problems confronting computer science is that of developing a paradigm appropriate to the discipline. Proponents of formal methods - such as John McCarthy, C.A.R. Hoare, and Edgar Dijkstra - have advanced the position that computing is a mathematical activity and that computer science should model itself after mathematics. Opponents of formal methods - by contrast, suggest that programming is the activity which is fundamental to computer science and that there are important differences that distinguish it from mathematics, which therefore cannot provide a suitable paradigm. Disagreement over the place of formal methods in computer science has recently arisen in the form of renewed interest in the nature and capacity of program verification as a method for establishing the reliability of software systems. A paper that appeared in Communications of the ACM entitled, `Program Verification: The Very Idea', by James H. Fetzer triggered an extended debate that has been discussed in several journals and that has endured for several years, engaging the interest of computer scientists (both theoretical and applied) and of other thinkers from a wide range of backgrounds who want to understand computer science as a domain of inquiry. The editors of this collection have brought together many of the most interesting and important studies that contribute to answering questions about the nature and the limits of computer science. These include early papers advocating the mathematical paradigm by McCarthy, Naur, R. Floyd, and Hoare (in Part I), others that elaborate the paradigm by Hoare, Meyer, Naur, and Scherlis and Scott (in Part II), challenges, limits and alternatives explored by C. Floyd, Smith, Blum, and Naur (in Part III), and recent work focusing on formal verification by DeMillo, Lipton, and Perlis, Fetzer, Cohn, and Colburn (in Part IV). It provides essential resources for further study. This volume will appeal to scientists, philosophers, and laypersons who want to understand the theoretical foundations of computer science and be appropriately positioned to evaluate the scope and limits of the discipline.

How to build winning digital products today? In this book, the authors explore what it takes to build winning digital products today. They focus on the idea that one should stop building software, and build digital services instead, effectively combining Hyperscale and Microcare: the ability to establish an intimate relationship with each and every of your thousands of users. The authors discuss the capabilities and processes you need to build such digital services. They zoom in on the kinds of assets you need to develop, and that will greatly influence the valuation, all supported with practical advice and real world examples. Discover a guide with practical advices and real world examples to build digital services and create relashionship with users. EXTRAIT As any cookbook, this work contains recipes, ingredient descriptions and best practices. To us – both amateur chefs – a flaw of most kitchen guides is the focus on lists and the weak insight they bring about the basic mechanisms. The process behind a tricky recipe like sauce Hollandaise is an emulsion between an oil and an aqueous component: butter and lemon juice are bound by egg yolk, used as an emulsifier. Digital entrepreneurship (cook) books show the same weakness. They distill guide-lines without linking them to the root mechanisms in digital. We base our recipes on these mechanisms. To explain them, we tell the story through the arrival of three digital paradoxes. Paradoxes intrigue, trigger curiosity, and animate a discussion between peers. That’s why they are excellent starting material to reason about a world in change. À PROPOS DE L'AUTEUR Peter Verhasselt coaches technology companies in optimizing their Product Management, Business Plan and Go-to-Market strategy. Before joining Sirris, Peter worked for industrial companies in Sales and Product Management, Field Service and R&D. Peter has degrees in Engineering, Law, Economics and Management. Nick Boucart is a mentor, coach and regular speaker on topics like Cloud, SaaS, Data Driven Product Management and Software Engineering. He’s an interim CTO for a number of startups. Prior to working at Sirris, Nick was a software engineer at LMS International and EMC.

Clear, on-the-ground guidance for Reading Apprenticeship implementation Leading for Literacy provides tools and real-life examples to expand the benefits of a literacy approach that sparks students' engaged reading and thinking across disciplines, from middle school through community college. A companion to the landmark Reading for Understanding, this book guides teachers, leaders, and administrators through the nuts, bolts, benefits, and stumbling blocks of creating Reading Apprenticeship communities that extend a culture of literacy beyond individual classrooms. This book explains how to generate authentic buy-in from teachers and administrators, use the Reading Apprenticeship Framework to turn reform overload into reform coherence, and create literacy teams, professional learning communities, and Reading Apprenticeship communities of practice that sustain an institutional focus on a student-centered, strengths-based culture of literacy. Key insights from Reading Apprenticeship practitioners across the country address how to get started, build momentum, assess progress, and build partnerships and networks across schools, districts, campuses, and regions. Persistently low levels of adolescent literacy continue to short-change students, contribute to discredited high school diplomas, and cause millions of students to drop out of high school and community college. Forty percent or more of community college students require remedial reading courses as college freshman. The researchers at WestEd's Strategic Literacy Initiative developed the Reading Apprenticeship Framework to provide educators with a proven path to improving literacy for all students, and this book provides clear guidance on bringing the framework to life. How to integrate Reading Apprenticeship with existing reform efforts How to use formative assessment to promote teacher and student growth How to coach and empower teachers How to cultivate literacy leadership How to provide long-term support for a strong content-literacy program Nationwide classroom testing has shown Reading Apprenticeship to promote not only literacy and content knowledge, but also motivation and positive academic identity—leading to better student outcomes that reach beyond the classroom walls. Leading for Literacy lays out compelling ways to spread the benefits of Reading Apprenticeship, with practical guidance and real-world insight.
