Hemos elaborado este libro partiendo de la premisa de que la formación y la realización de prácticas de laboratorio en buses de campo e industriales es fundamental para los futuros profesionales del sector de la automatización y el control industrial. La presente obra contiene un total de 16 prácticas comprobadas y puestas en marcha para su realización en el laboratorio, las cuales se aplican a sistemas automatizados mediante buses y redes de comunicación industrial, y en las cuales se detallan los elementos, equipos y materiales necesarios para desarrollar de manera guiada estas prácticas. Para la realización de las prácticas se han empleado los principales buses industriales: Profibus, Interbus, DeviceNet, ControlNet, DH+ y RIO, Ethernet, MPI, y AS-i, de las dos marcas líderes en este sector. Por un lado, en Europa: Siemens, familia S7-300/400 y familia S5; y, por el otro, en Norteamérica y Latinoamérica: Rockwell Automation, familia ControlLogix y PLC5/SLC500. La finalidad del libro es (1) servir como guía práctica ilustrada, (2) ser utilizada como cuaderno o unidades de trabajo en el aula-taller o en laboratorios de centros de formación profesional y escuelas de ingeniería, y (3) como complemento de libros teóricos en la realización de cursos de formación sobre comunicaciones industriales. Estas prácticas están dirigidas a los alumnos de los módulos 'Comunicaciones industriales' (C.F.G.S 'Sistemas de regulación y control automáticos') y 'Montaje y mantenimiento de sistemas automáticos de producción' (C.F.G.S 'Mantenimiento de equipo industrial'), así como a estudiantes de escuelas de ingeniería y profesionales del sector, con el objeto de responder a la dificultad que supone encontrar una bibliografía adecuada, específica y de carácter práctico de estos buses. La realización y el contenido técnico de estas prácticas abarcan numerosos años de experiencia profesional y labor académica por parte de su autor.
