*** Updated January 2024) *** Ada (ADA) is a native cryptocurrency that runs on Cardano, a third- generation, decentralized public blockchain that aims to protect user privacy, while remaining flexible for regulation. Cardano is spearheaded by Charles Hoskinson who began in crypto with his course Bitcoin or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Crypto. He subsequently went on to be a co-founder of BitShares and Ethereum before co-founding Cardano in 2015. Cardano is named after Gerolamo Cardano, an influential mathematician in the Renaissance. The platform aims to solve three issues with traditional cryptocurrencies: Sustainability, Scalability & Interoperability. This book is mainly for Cardano newcomers. It does not go deep into the weeds of the technical research papers, nor explore concepts in great detail. The goal is to give a broad overview of Cardano with explainers from Everipedia and Charles Hoskinson quotes where relevant. "This is a super-impressive piece of work on #Cardano from John Greene. Congratulations. And thank you. Every self-respecting kindle (or bookshelf) needs to sport one this summer" - Tim Harrison, IOG VP Community & Ecosystem Communications "This is the Bible of Cardano" - Kristian Portz, NMKR COO "I love this book and you will too!" - Jason Appleton (Crypto Crow) "Thanks for making my dreams available to the masses" - Charles Hoskinson, IOG CEO & Founder For more details, see www.CardanoBook.com

Equality And Vulnerability In The Context Of Italian Political Philosophy

Equality And Vulnerability In The Context Of Italian Political Philosophy written by Gianfrancesco Zanetti and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-09-17 with Law categories.
One of the main goals of this book is to determine if, in the works of some of the key authors in the history of Italian political philosophy, a notion of “efficacy” can be found. In legal philosophy, “efficacy” is the capacity a norm has to effectively influence citizens’ behavior. The “principle of efficacy” is that according to which an order or rule exists as such when it is followed effectively in practice. Here by “efficacy” I mean the idea that normative phenomena are self-justifying, without reference to extrinsic systems of value (such as “natural law”). The examinations of several texts undertaken here constitute reflections on this theme, without any claim to systematicity. They have been grouped together, roughly in historical order, by their common respect for the contexts within which they reason and reach decisions, which lends them a characteristic flavor of harsh realism that at times relies on a minimalist use of traditional normative categories. The second theme that emerges through the respective chapters (each of which constitutes the text for a lesson in a course for Ph.D. students) is that of the relationship between “equality” and “vulnerability.” Here the idea is to elaborate a concept of “vulnerability” that is not underpinned by what we in Italy call an “anthropology,” that is, a fixed notion of human nature. Instead this concept should be comprehensible and graspable solely on the basis of the recognition of decisions and actions that are merely “efficacious,” that function “for what they are, and what they do.” This recognition doesn’t even need to be explicitly articulated by these authors with any specific, deliberately conscious awareness. The goal is not to identify a precise tradition of thought, one which elaborates a given line of reflection, but rather to highlight certain “themes” that emerge in the texts examined, even as the authors write with and for their own specific, contingent set of motives, which differ from time to time and place to place. These authors include some who are widely known, such as Dante, Machiavelli, and Beccaria. At times they are figures who typify certain key historical episodes, such as the Risorgimento (Giuseppe Mazzini) or Fascism (Cesare Lombroso and Santi Romano), while others reflect certain aspects of a contemporary debate (Pasolini and the “Braibanti affair”). The book is based on lectures given for a 2021 Ph.D. Course at the University of California, Berkeley’s Department of Italian Studies.

Renaissance Dream Cultures written by Alessandro Arcangeli and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-07-31 with History categories.
This volume explores the dream cultures of the European long sixteenth century, with a focus on Italian sources, reflections and debates on the nature and value of dreams, and frameworks of interpretation. The chapters examine a variety of oneiric experiences, since distinctions such as that between dreams and visions are themselves culturally specific and variable. Several developments of the period are relevant and consequently considered, from the introduction of the printing press and the humanist rediscovery of ancient texts to the religious reforms and the cultural encounters at the time of the first globalisation. At the centre of the narrative is the exceptional case of Girolamo Cardano, heterodox physician, mathematician, astrologer, autobiographer, dreamer and key dream theorist of the epoch. The Italian peninsula produced the first printed editions of many classical and medieval treatises, and, particularly between the 1560s and the 1610s, was also especially active in the writing of texts, both Latin and vernacular, fascinated by the oneiric experience and investigating it. Given the role of the visual in dreaming, images are also analysed. This book will be a recommended reading for scholars, students and non-specialist readers of cultural history, Renaissance studies and dream cultures.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of two workshops held at the 24th International Conference on Financial Cryptography and Data Security, FC 2020, in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, in February 2020. The 39 full papers and 3 short papers presented in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 73 submissions. The papers feature four Workshops: The 1st Asian Workshop on Usable Security, AsiaUSEC 2020, the 1st Workshop on Coordination of Decentralized Finance, CoDeFi 2020, the 5th Workshop on Advances in Secure Electronic Voting, VOTING 2020, and the 4th Workshop on Trusted Smart Contracts, WTSC 2020. The AsiaUSEC Workshop contributes an increase of the scientific quality of research in human factors in security and privacy. In terms of improving efficacy of secure systems, the research included an extension of graphical password authentication. Further a comparative study of SpotBugs, SonarQube, Cryptoguard and CogniCrypt identified strengths in each and refined the need for improvements in security testing tools. The CoDeFi Workshop discuss multi-disciplinary issues regarding technologies and operations of decentralized finance based on permissionless blockchain. The workshop consists of two parts; presentations by all stakeholders, and unconference style discussions. The VOTING Workshop cover topics like new methods for risk-limited audits, new ethods to increase the efficiency of mixnets, verification of security of voting schemes election auditing, voting system efficiency, voting system usability, and new technical designs for cryptographic protocols for voting systems, and new way of preventing voteselling by de-incentivising this via smart contracts. The WTSC Workshop focuses on smart contracts, i.e., self-enforcing agreements in the form of executable programs, and other decentralized applications that are deployed to and run on top of specialized blockchains.

One of the most noticeable features of the Renaissance is what Jacob Burckhardt called the rise of the individual - in politics and religion, in its social life and in the arts, and in the mentality of Renaissance man, with his inclination to explore, to invent and to make new discoveries. Yet this characteristic is also very puzzling to modern people, who see that although the categories of art which depict particular people increased to a spectacular degree in a period when biography and portrait painting were among the most popular genres, and autobiography began to emerge as a genre in itself and painters began to produce self-portraits, an interest individuals is not necessarily the same thing as the more recent interest in the purely personal aspects of individuals. Literary and artistic traditions, social and ideological backgrounds, and the motives for the production of literature have changed profoundly: Renaissance biography and autobiography, portraiture and self-portraiture have little to do with their modern counterparts. Therefore this book stresses that the Renaissance is not predominantly a mirror of modernity, but rather a period of stimulating difference or alterity. The contributors to this collection of essays aim to create a better understanding of Renaissance biographies and portraits through the analysis and reconstruction of the traditions, contexts, backgrounds and circumstances of their production.

The book investigates the diachronic dimension of contact-induced language change based on empirical data from Pennsylvania German (PG), a variety of German in long-term contact with English. Written data published in local print media from Pennsylvania (USA) between 1868 and 1992 are analyzed with respect to semantic changes in the argument structure of verbs, the use of impersonal constructions, word order changes in subordinate clauses and in prepositional phrase constructions. The research objective is to trace language change based on diachronic empirical data, and to assess whether existing models of language contact make provisions to cover the long-term developments found in PG. The focus of the study is thus twofold: first, it provides a detailed analysis of selected semantic and syntactic changes in Pennsylvania German, and second, it links the empirical findings to theoretical approaches to language contact. Previous investigations of PG have drawn a more or less static, rather than dynamic, picture of this contact variety. The present study explores how the dynamics of language contact can bring about language mixing, borrowing, and, eventually, language change, taking into account psycholinguistic processes in (the head of) the bilingual speaker.
