This edited collection explores ways in which social justice can be integrated into career guidance practice. Chapter authors propose models and practices which can contribute to struggles for social justice and consider how career guidance can play a role in these struggles. They explore policy and practice in the light of critical social theory both critiquing career guidance and opening up new possibilities for the field. The volume moves the discipline away from its overwhelming reliance on psychology in favor of theoretically pluralistic approaches informed by critical thinking in a range of disciplines. It seeks to expand the possibilities that are available to career guidance practitioners and researchers to support the growth of human flourishing and solidarity.

The handbook is divided into three sections. The first section explores the economic, educational, and public policy contexts within which careers are enacted. The third section addresses the broad spectrum of helping practices to support both individuals and groups including career guidance, career counseling, and career learning interventions. This edited collection examines the intersections between career guidance, social justice and neo-liberalism. Contributors offer an original and global discussion of the role of career guidance in the struggle for social justice and evaluate the field from a diverse range of theoretical positions. Through a series of chapters that positions career guidance within a neoliberal context and presents theories to inform an emancipatory direction for the field, this book raises questions, offers resources and provides some glimpses of an alternative future for work. Drawing on education, sociology, and political science, this book addresses the theoretical basis of career guidance’s involvement in social justice as well as the methodological consequences in relation to career guidance research.

The book captures the developments, challenges and opportunities in the fields of counselling and career guidance in Asia, highlighting issues and concerns that are unique to Asian regions as well as those that are common with other parts of the world. This book addresses multiple gaps in the counselling and career guidance literatures: it covers Eastern contexts and includes a focus on the distinctive needs of rural communities and those of small states. Gender is a prominent theme as well. The chapters in the book are diverse in terms of settings and participants, topics, and segments of the life span. The reader can develop insight about the current status of the counselling and career guidance fields in Asian contexts and identify relevant aspects that need change or strengthening. The guidelines for policy development that have been suggested in many chapters in this edited volume are of considerable practical value. The discussions in the book draw attention to context-specific features as well as underscore themes that are recurrent across regions and countries. The book has utility, therefore, for readers from all countries. Counselling and Career Guidance in Asia will be relevant to students and researchers interested in educational psychology, counselling psychology, vocational psychology, career development, human learning, the learning sciences, and psychological research methods in education and psychology. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of British Journal of Guidance & Counselling.

This fourth edition of the book represents a milestone in the history of the Systems Theory Framework of career development that attests to its continuing influence and contemporary relevance. It emphasises changes in career development theory, practice, and research since its first edition in 1999. At that time, the publication of the STF was described by reviewers as a “groundbreaking departure from traditional counseling texts”, a “landmark work leading to the convergence of career development theories”, and as a “rare book that not only illuminates a field of study but also advances it”. Subsequent commentary attests to the strength of the metatheoretical contribution of the STF and its facilitation of links between theory, research, and practice. This book introduces systems theory and the STF, and comprehensively overviews traditional and contemporary career theory and analyses it through the metatheoretical lens of the STF. It then describes applications of the STF by applying systems thinking, systems mapping and experiential learning. Finally, the contributions and future directions of the STF are highlighted. This book provides a record of almost 30 years of contribution of the STF to career theory, research, and practice.

Career Development As A Partner In Nation Building Australia written by Wendy Patton and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-07-15 with Education categories.
Despite examples of vocational guidance practice being evident in Australia since the mid-1800s, there remains a spasmodic and patchwork approach to practice across the country. For decades it is a field which has been paradoxically boosted and challenged by changing economic and political agendas. Repeated international, national and State reviews emphasise the vital nature of a systemic national approach to career development, however authors repeatedly lament the lack of a sustained focus on career activity as a major national priority. There is no broad comprehensive historical reckoning of the history of career development theory and practice in Australia since this early period. Career development theory and practice in Australia has been forged in partnership with developments in an international context. In documenting the shared history with other countries, the author significantly adds to the body of knowledge on career development as a field in Australia and internationally. The book provides new understandings about the historical development of this field of knowledge, and in particular the challenging and cyclical nature of its policy history.
