Sumber inspirasi penulisan buku ini pada dasarnya diekstraksi dariUndang Undang dibidang Pelayanan Kesehatan yang berlaku di Indonesia khususnya dan petikan-petikan pengalaman kerja penulis sebagai dokter selama 1968 – 2009 mengabdi dibidang pelayanan kesehatan di Institusi Negara maupun di Unit Kerja Pelayanan Kesehatan Swasta. Para pasien dewasa ini sebagian besar belum atau tidak memahami dengan benar tentang hak dan kewajiban yang melekat dikala datang berobat atau opname di sebuah RS. Disudut lain, para pelayan kesehatan dan RS belum siap melayani dengan terbuka dan melihat pasien bukan sebagai objek sasaran layanan melainkan sebagai subjek dari tugas mulia dan hakikat profesionalitas pelayanan kesehatan yang sebenarnya mengedepankan keselamatan pasien diatas kepentingan lainnya. Para pelayan kesehatan termasuk organ RS sering kali belum sepenuhnya menyadari hal tersebut diatas sebagai Visi/Misi organisasinya. Kupasan kupasan materi yang diungkapkan bukan untuk meruncingkan salah pengertian diantarapihak pengguna dan pihak pemberi pelayanan kesehatan, melainkan dimaksud untuk menyadarkan semua pihak akan hak dan kewajiban masing-masing agar dapat menjalinkerjasama yang harmonis justru untuk kepentingan utama “mengupayakan keselamatan pasien” secara profesional, jujur, etis dan bertanggung jawab. Dengan adanya buku ini, diharapkan dapat menggugah kesadaran berbagai pihak di bidang medis untuk memberikan pelayanan terbaiknya kepada masyarakat luas. Pun, dengan harapan masyarakat luas menyadari hak-haknya ketika berurusan dengan para praktisi dan profesional di bidang mediskhususnya yang bersangkutan dengan keselamatan pribadinya.
