Training load is a critical component of athletic development, which involves manipulating various parameters, such as training intensity, volume, frequency, and density, to promote positive adaptations in the athlete's performance. However, training load can also have negative effects, such as excessive fatigue, injuries, and overtraining, which can impair the athlete's performance and health. It is therefore crucial to understand how training load can be optimized to improve athletic performance and minimize associated risks. This Research Topic aims to provide a current perspective on the knowledge and challenges associated with the effects of careful manipulation and load management to optimize performance and promote the health of athletes from different sports and competitive levels. The results obtained may be of particular importance for identifying the best and most current load prescription practices in different sports, as well as preventive and treatment interventions for injuries related to excessive training. Furthermore, research can provide information about the physiological mechanisms underlying the relationship between training load and athletic performance, which can be useful in developing new, more efficient and safer training strategies.

Africa is confronted with the triple burden of malnutrition; it is also faced with the triple challenges of poverty, inequality and unemployment. In many African countries, large proportions of the population rely on agriculture not only for their food - but also for their livelihoods. A transformed agricultural and food system is thus a necessary condition for addressing this double-triple challenge. Additionally, post harvest and food waste and losses reduce the availability of sufficient quantities of safe, edible and preferable foods. At least one third of food produced at farm level is lost due to inappropriate storage, infrastructure and agro-processing technologies in developing countries; and one third of food purchased is wasted at household and retail level.

While gasoline engines are preferred for speed and jet engines, diesel engines are widely used in vehicles and machinery that require torque, such as ships, trains, tanks, unmanned ariel vehicles (UAVs), and heavy-duty vehicles. Some recent research on global climate change has focused on obtaining zero carbon, zero emissions, and decarbonization via clean combustion technologies. This book focuses on different combustion technologies, from artificial intelligence applications in diesel engines to alternative fuels. It discusses the roles of artificial intelligence in the design of diesel engines, the use of different fuels in diesel engines, and the effects of these on the performance and emission values of diesel engines. Solving the challenge of hydrogen storage in hydrogen-fed diesel engines will open a new era for internal combustion engines. In particular, the use of hydrogen fuel produced by the reaction of chemical ingredients with water in diesel engine cycles will have a significant impact on the industry.
