Someday we may say that we never saw it coming. After seventy-five years of peace in the Pacific, a new challenger to American power has emerged, on a scale not seen in generations. Working from a deep sense of national destiny, the Chinese Communist Party is guiding a country of 1.4 billion people towards what it calls "the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation," and, with it, the end of an American-led world. Will this generation witness the final act for America as a superpower? Can American ingenuity, confidence, and will power outcompete the long-term strategic thinking and planning of China's Communist Party? These are the challenges that will shape the next decade and more. China's Vision of Victory brings the reader to a new understanding of China's planning, strategy, and ambitions. From seabed to space, from Africa to the Arctic, from subsurface warfare to the rise of China's global corporations, this book will illuminate for the reader the new great game of our lifetimes, and how our adversary sees it all.

The first memoir about the "reeducation" camps by a Uyghur woman, describing the insidious nature of oppression, the dehumanizing effects of torture and brainwashing, and the human drive to survive—and resist—under even the most horrific circumstances. This new paperback edition features a new introduction by the author. “I have written what I lived. The atrocious reality.” — Gulbahar Haitiwaji to Paris Match For three years Gulbahar Haitiwaji was held in Chinese detention centers and “reeducation” camps, enduring interrogations, torture, hunger, police violence, brainwashing, forced sterilization, freezing cold, rats, and nights under the blinding fluorescent lights of her prison cell. Her only crime? Being a Uyghur. China’s brutal repression of Uyghurs, a Turkish-speaking Muslim ethnic group, has been denounced as genocide and reported widely in media around the world. In 2019, the New York Times published the “Xinjiang Papers,” leaked documents exposing the forced detention of more than one million Uyghurs in Chinese “reeducation” camps. The Chinese government denies that these camps are concentration camps, seeking to legitimize their existence in the name of the “total fight against Islamic terrorism, infiltration and separatism” and calling them “schools.” But none of this is true. Gulbahar only escaped thanks to the relentless efforts of her daughter, with the help of the French diplomatic corps. Others have not been so fortunate. In How I Survived a Chinese “Reeducation” Camp, Gulbahar tells her story, describing the insidious nature of oppression, the dehumanizing effects of torture and brainwashing, and the human drive to survive—and resist—under even the most horrific circumstances. This new paperback edition includes a new introduction by the author.

This book provides ultra simple but refreshing solutions to most of our problems from unemployment to foreign policy. First, I listed all our ills in the title article. You will cry and laugh at the same time. Fortunately most of our problems are not that hard to fix. However, we have to overcome the resistance from politicians, special interest groups and the voters ourselves. All the fences, equipments and manpower will not keep illegal aliens away from our border but penalizing the employers will. If there are no jobs, they will not come. Nothing is simpler and more cost effective than this. Before we talk about a national health care plan, we have to start by cutting down our high medical care expenses. When we tax small businesses to pay for the plan, we're creating other problems like unemployment.Taxing the rich excessively and printing money to the maximum are problems and not solutions. It could force the geese that lay the golden eggs to fly to another country. The better the incentives for them to invest here, the more jobs they will create. We have to abandon some low-wage consumer products but enhance the ones that are competitive in the global market. A $20 wage can never compete with a $2 wage. You cannot survive with a $2 wage in US. With the alternative of closing out all foreign trades, we have to buy a toaster made in USA for $50! This would erode our living standard further. We have to cut our generous welfare and entitlements and at the same time help the real needy. It would encourage the able poor to work and break their vicious cycle of poverty. If you lose your free health care for taking a job, you will not work of course. It does not take a genius to fix this problem, but where has the genius been for the last hundreds of years?Education starts at home with concerned parents. We have too many single parents and teenage mothers. Throwing money to any problem does not fix the root problem. It happens time after time, and we have never learned. The days of you're my enemy or my puppet are long gone unless you still live in the days of past glory. Our government and its citizens need to live within our means. We cannot borrow and pass our obligations to the next generation forever. Democracy could lead to socialism, which in turn could lead to self-destruction as demonstrated in Greece. I boldly predict that a secular bull market will be starting in 2015 when the two wars will be finally over. If it does not happen, most likely it will happen before 2020. I have strong arguments for both scenario forecasts. You heard it here first. My Coconut Theory explains why US is declining and China is rising, naturally. The more interventions from our government, the higher chance it will be materialized. It also explains why the current recession has been prolonged with so many bailouts. We blame China on currency manipulation, subsidies, spying, product dumping, pollution, rare earth elements, etc. While some have merits and China is no angel, we practice some of these tactics ourselves. You will be surprised that China is a human rights lover if you compare China 30 years ago to China today. Today very few Chinese starve and most have shelters. These are basic human rights. We should look at both sides of a story and not let our dumb nationalism cover our eyes. Using our yardstick to judge another country is not wise. Our politicians blame all our ills on China as they cannot fix our problems and the media wants to say what you want to hear. This book contains 76 original and refreshing articles. My sincere hope is to promote better relationship of the two countries via mutual understanding and respect. It also includes several original jokes and humor to keep you entertained. I also provide a blog for this book so it is never-ending once you get hooked.

"THE BOOK CHINA DOESN'T WANT YOU TO READ."--CNN A riveting insider's story of how the Party and big money work in China today, by a man who, with his wife, Whitney Duan, rose to the zenith of power and wealth--and then fell out of favor. She was disappeared four years ago. News of this book led to a phone call from Whitney, proof that she's alive. As Desmond Shum was growing up impoverished in China, he vowed his life would be different. Through hard work and sheer tenacity he earned an American college degree and returned to his native country to establish himself in business. There, he met his future wife, the highly intelligent and equally ambitious Whitney Duan who was determined to make her mark within China's male-dominated society. Whitney and Desmond formed an effective team and, aided by relationships they formed with top members of China's Communist Party, the so-called red aristocracy, he vaulted into China's billionaire class. Soon they were developing the massive air cargo facility at Beijing International Airport, and they followed that feat with the creation of one of Beijing's premier hotels. They were dazzlingly successful, traveling in private jets, funding multi-million-dollar buildings and endowments, and purchasing expensive homes, vehicles, and art. But in 2017, their fates diverged irrevocably when Desmond, while residing overseas with his son, learned that his now ex-wife Whitney had vanished along with three coworkers. This is both Desmond's story and Whitney's, because she has not been able to tell it herself.

The Columbia Anthology Of Modern Chinese Drama written by Xiaomei Chen and has been published by Columbia University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-03-25 with Performing Arts categories.

This condensed anthology reproduces close to a dozen plays from Xiaomei Chen's well-received original collection, The Columbia Anthology of Modern Chinese Drama, along with her critical introduction to the historical, cultural, and aesthetic evolution of twentieth-century Chinese spoken drama. Comprising representative works from the Republican era to postsocialist China, the book encapsulates the revolutionary rethinking of Chinese theater and performance that began in the late Qing dynasty and vividly portrays the uncertainty and anxiety brought on by modernism, socialism, political conflict, and war. Chosen works from 1919 to 1990 also highlight the formation of national and gender identities during a period of tremendous social, cultural, and political change in China and the genesis of contemporary attitudes toward the West. PRC theater tracks the rise of communism, juxtaposing ideals of Chinese socialism against the sacrifices made for a new society. Post-Mao drama addresses the nation's socialist legacy, its attempt to reexamine its cultural roots, and postsocialist reflections on critical issues such as nation, class, gender, and collective memories. An essential, portable guide for easy reference and classroom use, this abridgment provides a concise yet well-rounded survey of China's theatricality and representation of political life. The original work not only established a canon of modern Chinese drama in the West but also made it available for the first time in English in a single volume.

China And Her Neighbours written by Michael Tai and has been published by Zed Books Ltd. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-09-15 with History categories.

For centuries, China was confident in its role as the ‘Middle Kingdom’, the undisputed cultural, economic and political powerhouse of Asia. Today, with China once again a leading player on the world stage, countries across the continent are facing an uncertain future. Does China’s rise threaten its neighbours? And what, ultimately, is its end goal? Nowhere are these questions more pressing than in the Pacific, where China’s maritime neighbours find themselves directly in the path of the country’s expanding territorial claims. In this rich historical exploration, Michael Tai finds answers to these and other questions through an in-depth exploration of China’s past. Spanning thousands of years of Chinese and Asian history, China and Her Neighbours looks at China’s evolving relations with Japan, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Malaysia. While the disputes in the Pacific have attracted widespread attention, very few investigations have considered the wider historical context of these tensions.
