Pour exemple, le prédicateur Spurgeon aimait à y relever cette perle : « Là-dessus, les pèlerins observèrent les mouvements de la poule, et s'aperçurent qu'elle procédait de quatre manières différentes envers ses petits : 1. Elle les appelait d'abord par un gloussement ordinaire qui se répète fréquemment dans la journée ; 2. elle leur adressait un appel spécial ; mais cela n'avait lieu que par intervalles ; 3. elle procédait sur un ton particulièrement tendre tandis qu'ils étaient recueillis sous ses ailes ; 4. elle faisait entendre un cri d'alarme. Maintenant, continua l'Interprète, représentez-vous la conduite de votre Roi par celle de cette poule, et faites un rapprochement entre ses sujets et les poussins ; car l'un est l'emblème de l'autre. Dieu agit aussi envers les siens d'après une méthode qui lui est propre.
