Cognition And Curriculum Reconsidered written by Elliot W. Eisner and has been published by Teachers College Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1994 with Education categories.

In his 1980 John Dewey Lecture, Elliot Eisner argued powerfully and eloquently for a view of literacy that goes beyond verbal and numerical skills, focusing instead on the central role of the senses in the twin processes of human conceptualization and expression. A few years later, Professor Eisner elaborated and expanded that lecture into Cognition and Curriculum, a book that was hailed as having the potential to “shake up educational decision makers as Dewey’s Experience and Education did.” Now, as the back-to-basics curriculum and standardized modes of evaluation—whose very foundations Eisner was questioning a decade ago—are again finding favor, Eisner has chosen to revisit his classic work. The result is Cognition and Curriculum Reconsidered, a substantially revised edition that adds two entirely new chapters, including a critique of the reform efforts of the intervening years. Eisner starts out with an inclusive definition of literacy in its metaphorical sense: “the ability to encode and decode meaning in any of the forms of respresentation used in the culture to convey or express meaning.” This in turn implies a radically different approach to education, one that seeks to develop multiple literacies in the student, not privileging the understandings of the sciences and mathematics over those of the fine arts, humanities, and other branches of human knowledge. Such an approach will both enhance efforts at achieving educational equity and cultivate rather than stifle individual differences. Eisner brings together an impressive body of evidence from various fields of inquiry to produce an engaging, thought-provoking discussion about the appropriate boundaries of school curriculum and educational evaluation. This book will be important reading for teachers and teacher educators and will be a welcome addition to courses in foundations of education, curriculum theory, qualitative research, and educational evaluation.

'Can give you some idea of the vision you are trying to transmit amidst all those examination results' - "Management in Education " 'The powerful ideas ... in the First Edition have gained ... urgency from the realities of the political policies for education which the intervening years have witnessed in both the USA and the UK. ..... the book s main theme - the narrowness of the concept of education encapsulated in those policies - gains added force from the growing predominance of technicist approaches to curriculum planning' - "Professor A V Kelly, Goldsmiths College, University of London " Cognition and Curriculum became a seminal book which was essential reading for students of education over the last decade. Now, as the back-to-basics curriculum and standardized modes of evaluation - whose very foundations Elliot W Eisner was questioning a decade ago - are again finding favour with politicians, Eisner has revised his classic work. The result is Cognition and Curriculum Reconsidered, a substantially revised edition that adds two new chapters, including a critique of the reform efforts of the intervening years.

Christian Education Curriculum For The Digital Generation written by Jong Soo Park and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-02-16 with Religion categories.

This book is about exploring and presenting a model of digital-based curriculum for Christian education suitable for the digital ways of learning, communicating, and thinking. Park discusses the limitations of analog-based curricula, most of current curricula, and necessities for digital-oriented ones. Then, he provides a new model of curriculum--curriculum as software. Curriculum as software is a curricular framework for embracing digital culture like open-flat network, service-centered management, interactive communication, and offline-online hybrid learning space. It consists of four spiral stages: analysis, design, simulation, and service. In the process of designing units, 4R Movement--a new learning theory--is utilized to encourage today's young people to construct their own knowledge after critically analyzing various resources of information. 4R-embeded courses are implemented in the four movements: reflection, reinterpretation, re-formation, and re-creation.

Critical Thinking Across The Curriculum written by Diane F. Halpern and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-02-04 with Psychology categories.

Consider that many of the people who are alive today will be working at jobs that do not currently exist and that the explosion of information means that today's knowledge will quickly become outdated. As a result, two goals for education clearly emerge -- learning how to learn and how to think critically about information that changes at a rapid rate. We face a multitude of new challenges to our natural environment, difficult dilemmas concerning the use of weapons of mass destruction, political agendas for the distribution of scarce commodities and wealth, psychological problems of loneliness and depression, escalating violence, and an expanding elderly population. International in scope and in magnitude, these new problems strain resources and threaten the continuance of life on earth. To creatively and effectively attack these imminent problems, a well educated, thinking populace is essential. An abridged edition of Halpern's best-selling text, Critical Thinking Across the Curriculum is designed to help students enhance their thinking skills in every class. The skills discussed are needed in every academic area and setting -- both in and out of class. They are: determining cause; assessing likelihood and uncertainty; comprehending complex text; solving novel problems; making good decisions; evaluating claims and evidence; and thinking creatively. In this adaptation of her best-selling text, Diane Halpern applies the theories and research of cognitive psychology to the development of critical thinking and learning skills needed in the increasingly complex world in which we work and live. The book is distinguished by its clear writing style, humorous tone, many practical examples and anecdotes, and rigorous academic grounding. Everyday examples and exercises promote the transfer of critical thinking skills and dispositions to real-world settings and problems. The goal is to help readers recognize when and how to apply the thinking skills needed to analyze arguments, reason clearly, identify and solve problems, and make sound decisions. Also of importance, a general thinking skills framework ties the chapters together, but each is written so that it can "stand alone." This organization allows for maximum flexibility in the selection of topics and the order in which they are covered. This book is intended for use in any course emphasizing critical thinking as an approach to excellence in thinking and learning.

Crossing Mind Brain And Education Boundaries written by Ali Nouri and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-11-25 with Science categories.

Mind, Brain, and Education science is a very young field, though it has roots in thousands of years of academic reflection. This book is a brief but critical look into the key turning points in the field’s evolution and the existing initiatives in order to project its future directions. It draws on information from all major branches of the learning sciences, including philosophy and history, and more modern constructs such as cognitive psychology and neuroscience. First and foremost, it is a textbook for early graduate training programs in Mind, Brain, and Education science and Educational Neuroscience and those who would like to have Learning Sciences as their main area of study, but the book will also serve as an introduction for those educational policymakers who would like to ground decision-making in evidence from the Learning Sciences, and neuroscientists who need to have knowledge about mind and education.
