Combination Of Evidence In Dempster Shafer Theory written by Kari Sentz and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Dempster-Shafer theory categories.
Dempster-Shafer theory offers an alternative to traditional probabilistic theory for the mathematical representation of uncertainty. The significant innovation of this framework is that it allows for the allocation of a probability mass to sets or intervals. Dempster-Shafer theory does not require an assumption regarding the probability of the individual constituents of the set or interval. This is a potentially valuable tool for the evaluation of risk and reliability in engineering applications when it is not possible to obtain a precise measurement from experiments, or when knowledge is obtained from expert elicitation. An important aspect of this theory is the combination of evidence obtained from multiple sources and the modeling of conflict between them. This report surveys a number of possible combination rules for Dempster-Shafer structures and provides examples of the implementation of these rules for discrete and interval-valued data.

On The Validity Of Dempster S Rule Of Combination Of Evidence written by Lotfi A. Zadeh and has been published by Infinite Study this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1979-10-01 with Mathematics categories.
In a seminal paper published in 1967, Dempster has described a rule for combining independent sources of information. More recently, Dempster's rule has been employed as a basis for a mathematical theory of evidence. It is suggested in this note that there is a serious flaw in Dempster's rule which restricts its use in many applications.

Evidence theory by Dempster-Shafer for determination of hormone receptor status in breast cancer samples was introduced in our previous paper. One major topic pointed out here is the link between pieces of evidence found from different origins. In this paper the challenge of selecting appropriate ways of fusing evidence, depending on the type and quality of data involved is addressed. A parameterized family of evidence combination rules, covering the full range of potential needs, from emphasizing discrepancies in the measurements to aspiring accordance, is covered. The consequences for real patient samples are shown by modeling different decision strategies.

Generalized Combination Rule For Evidential Reasoning Approach And Dempster Shafer Theory Of Evidence written by Yuan-Wei Du and has been published by Infinite Study this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on with Mathematics categories.
The Dempster–Shafer (DS) theory of evidence can combine evidence with one parameter. The evidential reasoning (ER) approach is an extension of DS theory that can combine evidence with two parameters (weights and reliabilities). However, it has three infeasible aspects: reliability dependence, unreliability effectiveness, and intergeneration inconsistency.

We challenge the validity of Dempster-Shafer Theory by using an emblematic example to show that DS rule produces counter-intuitive result. Further analysis reveals that the result comes from a understanding of evidence pooling which goes against the common expectation of this process. Although DS theory has attracted some interest of the scientific community working in information fusion and artificial intelligence, its validity to solve practical problems is problematic, because it is not applicable to evidences combination in general, but only to a certain type situations which still need to be clearly identified.
