El fenómeno de la inmigración se ha convertido en una de las cuestiones de mayor relevancia social, económica, política y cultural de nuestros días, y la respuesta del derecho ante tan importante fenómeno ha ido evolucionando como en tantas otras ocasiones para procurar adaptarse, con no poca dificultad y casi nunca a satisfacción de todos, a las exigencias derivadas de una realidad migratoria cambiante y extraordinariamente compleja, pues no en vano las leyes de extranjería se gestan en el marco de un contexto económico y político específico, cuya mutabilidad no consiente soluciones normativas estructurales y permanentes. La obra que muy brevemente aquí se presenta ha sido alumbrada con el propósito de terciar en el vivísimo y trascendental debate sobre la ordenación de las políticas migratorias en los tiempos actuales, ofreciendo a la comunidad científica y a cualquier lector interesado un tratamiento técnico-jurídico y valorativo, de carácter riguroso, sistemático y actualizado, sobre la nueva regulación legal y reglamentaria de la inmigración y la extranjería en nuestro país resultante de los cambios introducidos en la LO 4/2000, de 11 de enero, sobre derechos y libertades de los Extranjeros en España y su integración social por la Ley Orgánica 2/2009, de 11 de diciembre, y la aprobación de un nuevo Reglamento de extranjería por el Real Decreto 557/2011, de 20 de abril.
