Vehicles are complex systems (non-linear, multi-variable) where the abundance of embedded controllers should ensure better security. This book aims at emphasizing the interest and potential of Linear Parameter Varying methods within the framework of vehicle dynamics, e.g. proposed control-oriented model, complex enough to handle some system non linearities but still simple for control or observer design, take into account the adaptability of the vehicle's response to driving situations, to the driver request and/or to the road sollicitations, manage interactions between various actuators to optimize the dynamic behavior of vehicles. This book results from the 32th International Summer School in Automatic that held in Grenoble, France, in September 2011, where recent methods (based on robust control and LPV technics), then applied to the control of vehicle dynamics, have been presented. After some theoretical background and a view on some recent works on LPV approaches (for modelling, analysis, control, observation and diagnosis), the main emphasis is put on road vehicles but some illustrations are concerned with railway, aerospace and underwater vehicles. The main objective of the book is to demonstrate the value of this approach for controlling the dynamic behavior of vehicles. It presents, in a rm way, background and new results on LPV methods and their application to vehicle dynamics.

On s'intéresse dans cette thèse au développemnt de nouvelles méthodes de synthèse de lois de commande robuste pour les systèmes non stationnaires. Après une étude historique puis une analyse détaillée de la non stationnarité, le problème central de la synthèse est posé. L'idée originale des travaux repose sur un choix judicieux de la nature des correcteurs que l'on retiendra sous une forme identique à celle du procédé. Ainsi, les non stationnarités sont directement prises en compte par la loi de commande qui offre alors la garantie d'une stabilité globale en boucle fermée, même dans le cas des systèmes à évolution rapide. On montre par ailleurs qu'un tel choix permet d'accéder à une caractérisation convexe des solutions que l'on pourra obtenir par résolution d'inégalités matricielles linéaires (LMI). L'approche proposée est e nsuite validée sur un ensemble d'applications réalistes appartenant aux domaines aéronautique (pilotage d'un missile et d'un avion de combat) et naval (tenue en immersion d'un sous-marin). Des applications dans le domaine spatial sont également envisageables (pilotage des lanceurs, contrôle d'attitude des satellites).

This book provides innovative methods for simulating, modeling, and controlling photovoltaic systems. The authors introduce a modeling strategy including eight linear models pondered by nonlinear weighting functions that are calculated dynamically based on extreme temperature and irradiance values. The authors demonstrate how the parameters of each model are harnessed to develop a partial PI controller aimed at commanding the corresponding model to achieve the desired performances swiftly and precisely. The books goes on to show how merging the gains of the partial PI controllers with the nonlinear weighting functions, the PI controller gain for the PV system can be effectively determined. The authors present the results of simulation performed in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment to demonstrate the model's ability to depict accurately the behavior of the PV system across all operative zones and under varying climatic conditions. Furthermore, the authors show how the results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed PI controller in swiftly and precisely tracking the maximum power point while maintaining stability and canceling ripples.
