This book examines how journalism functions among “synergistic effects” of climate change, such as compounded impact of severe weather, social and political responses to changing global warming, and the often-unfortunate results and impacts on our environments. The volume emerges as global communities attempt to address climate events already challenging for journalists to cover and the social and cultural outcomes associated with them. Chapters in this book bring together global scholars and media practitioners who highlight digital challenges in covering the complexities of environmental change, from climate deniers and facts to longstanding and new approaches to covering heat, disaster, safety, mis- and dis-information, and data. These chapters provide conceptual and practical solutions to issues journalists (and scholars) face amidst global contestation and global warming to better communicate in an increasingly digital age. Journalism and Reporting Synergistic Effects of Climate Change will be an invaluable resource for scholars, researchers and practitioners in journalism, mass communication, media studies, environmental communication, communication studies, and sociology. It was originally published as a special issue of Journalism Practice.

Due to the proliferation of information and communication technology (ICT) and Web 2.0 technologies in the 21st century, libraries now play a more dynamic role in the knowledge society. This new function is a result of the emergence of these technologies. The human has the ability to impact technology in the same manner that they are influenced by information and communication technology (ICT). This comment provides an explanation of how the existence of digital information has an effect on the essential features of libraries via its explanation. There is a rapid increase in the quantity of digital information resources that are available, and these resources have the potential to be easily accessible simultaneously by a large number of receivers. As a consequence of this transformation, traditional libraries are presented with a broad variety of challenges that pose a danger to their ability to continue existing. The staff members working in modern academic libraries have to have enhanced their technical abilities in order to fulfill the expectations of the customers who use their services. They are obligated to adjust to the new technologies that are being brought into the market. The construction of digital libraries, the establishment of institutional repositories, and the gathering of knowledge about open archives are some of the new trends that have emerged in the modern period. The digitization of libraries has evolved into an essential component of the work that librarians conduct, and the vast majority of libraries are now participating in digitalization efforts.

This book arises from a cybersecurity conference at the University of Adelaide attended by a group of government and academic experts. It presents the possible responses Australia can take to deter and respond to cybersecurity threats. It also examines the legal responsibility for cyber security and artificial intelligence, asking who (if anyone) bears responsibility for the myriad legal issues that arise. This book presents an authoritative legal framework for understanding the liability and responsibility of actors involved in cyberspace and the use of artificial intelligence. Providing an overarching summary of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence threats, followed by detailed analysis of potential authorizations and limitations regulating policy and governance responses, this book canvases a wide spectrum of civil and criminal frameworks. It is comprehensive enough to be useful for a wide cross-section of the Australian society in a range of sectors: individual users, small businesses, tertiary institutions, large corporations, and government. It is also beneficial to military personnel in outlining the legal frameworks available in times of armed conflict.

This book explores the communication processes of the Transition Movement, a community-led global social movement, as it was adapted in a local context. First it analyzes how the movement’s grand narratives of responding to “climate change” and creating greater “resiliency” were communicated into local community-based stories, responses, and actions in the Transition Town of Amherst, Massachusetts. Second, it seeks to understand the multilayered communication processes that facilitate these actions toward sustainable social change. Transition Amherst developed and/or supported projects that addressed reducing dependency on peak-oil, creating community-based-local economies, supporting sustainable food production and consumption, and participating in more efficient transportation, among others. The popularity of the model coincides with an increase in the interest in and use of the term “sustainability” by media, academics and policymakers around the world, and an increase in the global use of digital technology as a resource for information gathering and sharing. Thus this book situates itself at the intersections of a global environmental and economic crisis, the popularization of the term “sustainability,” and an increasingly digitized and networked global society in order to better understand how social change is contextualized and facilitated in a local community via a global network. This book is the first comprehensive analysis of the ways in which the theories of Transition are applied over an extended period of time in practice, on the ground in a Transition town.
