This book is devoted to the design and analysis of techniques enabling intelligent and dynamic cooperation and communication among agents in a distributed environment. A flexible theoretical formalism is developed in detail and it is demonstrated how this approach can be used for the design of agent architectures in practice. The formal part of this work is based on a variant of the BDI logic introduced by Georgeff and Rao. This book, for the first time, outlines this formalism in some depth. The most important practical benefit provided is the concept of cooperation protocols allowing the representation of various methods of cooperation and possible patterns of dialogue.

Cooperative Control Of Multi Agent Systems written by Frank L. Lewis and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-12-31 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Cooperative Control of Multi-Agent Systems extends optimal control and adaptive control design methods to multi-agent systems on communication graphs. It develops Riccati design techniques for general linear dynamics for cooperative state feedback design, cooperative observer design, and cooperative dynamic output feedback design. Both continuous-time and discrete-time dynamical multi-agent systems are treated. Optimal cooperative control is introduced and neural adaptive design techniques for multi-agent nonlinear systems with unknown dynamics, which are rarely treated in literature are developed. Results spanning systems with first-, second- and on up to general high-order nonlinear dynamics are presented. Each control methodology proposed is developed by rigorous proofs. All algorithms are justified by simulation examples. The text is self-contained and will serve as an excellent comprehensive source of information for researchers and graduate students working with multi-agent systems.

This book helps to organise the diverse landscape of agent-based systems by applying formal methods to provide a defining and encompassing agent framework. The Z specification language is used to provide an accessible and unified formal account of agent systems and inter-agent relationships. In particular, the framework precisely and unambiguously provides meanings for common concepts and terms for agent systems, enables alternative agent models and architectures to be described within it, and provides a foundation for subsequent development of increasingly more refined agent concepts. It describes agents, the relationships between them and the requisite capabilities for effective functioning in multi-agent systems, and is applied in different case studies. In the second edition the authors have revised and updated the existing chapters of the book to respond to advice from readers of the first edition, to add references to recent work in agent systems, and generally to bring the content up to date. They have extended the introduction and conclusions chapters to include a better review of the field and the current state-of-the-art. This new edition features chapters on agent interaction and norms, and outlines an implementation framework. The book will appeal equally to researchers, students and technologists interested in intelligent agents and multi-agent systems. Comments from experts in the field: An excellent book that lays out a clear conceptual framework for studying and analysing agent-based systems. Nick Jennings Mark d'Inverno and Michael Luck have, over the last six or seven years, been at the forefront of European research in agent systems. This book poses some important foundational questions about agents and their interactions in multi-agent systems and answers them in a coherent and convincing way. It's an extremely valuable contribution to the field. Michael Georgeff It is undoubtedly a clear and most comprehensive attempt to describe agent-based systems in a unified manner. Simon Parsons

Agent Technology, or Agent-Based Approaches, is a new paradigm for developing software applications. It has been hailed as 'the next significant breakthrough in software development', and 'the new revolution in software' after object technology or object-oriented programming. In this context, an agent is a computer system which is capable of act

Distributed Artificial Intelligence (DAI) is a vibrant sub-field of Artificial Intelligence concerned with coordinating the knowledge and actions of multiple interacting agents. Although DAI has the potential to overcome many of the problems currently associated with constructing software systems which are large, complex and knowledge rich, there have, as yet, been relatively few attempts to apply it to real world applications. To help pave the way for such future developments, this book recounts the insights gained and the breakthroughs made, whilst building multiple agent systems in the domains of electricity transportation management and control of a particle accelerator. These experiences cover the complete development lifecycle of multi-agent systems for industrial applications: ranging from the initial design, through the implementation, to the testing and evaluation phases. The book's other main features are that it: provides a thorough and up-to-date explanation of the foundation concepts of DAI, describes a new paradigm for building multi-agent systems which uses the concept of reusable cooperation knowledge and develops a new model of cooperation based on the notion of joint intentions.

In the ten years since the first MAAMAW was held in 1989, at King's College, Cambridge, the field of Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) has flourished. It has attracted an increasing amount of theoretical and applied research. During this decade, important efforts have been made to establish the scientific and technical foundations of MAS. MAAMAW publications are testimony to the progress achieved in key areas such as agent modelling and reasoning, multi-agent interaction and communication, and multi-agent organisation and social structure. Research results have covered a wide range of inter-related topics in each area including agent architectures, reasoning models, logics, conflict resolution, negotiation, resource allocation, load balancing, learning; social behaviour and interaction, languages and protocols, interagent and agent-human communication, social models, agent roles, norms and social laws, and static and dynamic organisational structures. The feasibility and the viability of the proposed models and techniques have been demonstrated through MAS applications in heterogeneous domains including electronic commerce, co-operative work, telecommunications, social and biological systems, robotics, office and business automation, public administration, social simulations and banking. As the applicability of the technology became understood, the multi-agent paradigm has been progressively accepted by product managers and system developers, giving rise to a considerable amount of business expectation from industry. These expectations do not rest on the concept or metaphor of agent, but on the development of MAS useful in an industrial setting, with real-time systems presenting the biggest challenge.

Resilient Cooperative Control and Optimization of Multi-Agent Systems addresses various resilient cooperative control and optimization problems of multi-agent systems that are vulnerable to physical failure and cyber attacks and consist of multiple decision-making agents that interact in a shared environment to achieve common or conflicting goals. Critical infrastructures, such as smart grids, wireless sensor network, multi-robot system, etc., are typical examples of multi-agent systems that consist of the large-scale physical processes which are monitored and controlled over a set of communication networks and computers. - Presents solutions to different resilient cooperative control and optimization problems of multi-agent systems - Includes a wealth of examples on attack-resilient consensus control, time-varying formation tracking control, distributed optimization and distributed Nash equilibrium game-seeking - Shows, in detail, the practicalities of how to develop an attack-resilient cooperative control and optimization framework

Engineering And Deployment Of Cooperative Information Systems written by Yanbo Han and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-08-02 with Computers categories.

Today, technologies for engineering and deployment of cooperative information systems have become increasingly critical in the construction of practically all types of large-scale distributed systems. Stimulating forums with different focuses are thus still in need of researchers and professionals from academia and industry to exchange ideas and experience and to establish working relationships. The idea to organize in China an academic event focusing on current topics in the field was born during the IFIP World Computer Congress 2000 that was held in Beijing, China. And here are the proceedings of EDCIS 2002! This volume comprises the technical research papers accepted for presentation at EDCIS 2002. Of the initial 159 paper submissions involving nearly 500 authors from 14 countries of all continents, 45 papers were carefully selected. Every paper was reviewed by at least three members of the program committee, and judged - cording to its technical merit and soundness, originality, significance, presentation quality, and relevance to the conference. The accepted papers cover various s- jects such as workflow technology, coordination technology, advanced trans- tions, groupware systems, semantic web, ontologies, mobile agents, and enterprise modeling, and enterprise application integration.
