COMPUTATIONAL INTELLIGENCE and HEALTHCARE INFORMATICS The book provides the state-of-the-art innovation, research, design, and implements methodological and algorithmic solutions to data processing problems, designing and analysing evolving trends in health informatics, intelligent disease prediction, and computer-aided diagnosis. Computational intelligence (CI) refers to the ability of computers to accomplish tasks that are normally completed by intelligent beings such as humans and animals. With the rapid advance of technology, artificial intelligence (AI) techniques are being effectively used in the fields of health to improve the efficiency of treatments, avoid the risk of false diagnoses, make therapeutic decisions, and predict the outcome in many clinical scenarios. Modern health treatments are faced with the challenge of acquiring, analyzing and applying the large amount of knowledge necessary to solve complex problems. Computational intelligence in healthcare mainly uses computer techniques to perform clinical diagnoses and suggest treatments. In the present scenario of computing, CI tools present adaptive mechanisms that permit the understanding of data in difficult and changing environments. The desired results of CI technologies profit medical fields by assembling patients with the same types of diseases or fitness problems so that healthcare facilities can provide effectual treatments. This book starts with the fundamentals of computer intelligence and the techniques and procedures associated with it. Contained in this book are state-of-the-art methods of computational intelligence and other allied techniques used in the healthcare system, as well as advances in different CI methods that will confront the problem of effective data analysis and storage faced by healthcare institutions. The objective of this book is to provide researchers with a platform encompassing state-of-the-art innovations; research and design; implementation of methodological and algorithmic solutions to data processing problems; and the design and analysis of evolving trends in health informatics, intelligent disease prediction and computer-aided diagnosis. Audience The book is of interest to artificial intelligence and biomedical scientists, researchers, engineers and students in various settings such as pharmaceutical & biotechnology companies, virtual assistants developing companies, medical imaging & diagnostics centers, wearable device designers, healthcare assistance robot manufacturers, precision medicine testers, hospital management, and researchers working in healthcare system.

“Theoppositeofacorrectstatementisafalsestatement.Buttheopposite of a profound truth may well be another profound truth.” – Niels Bohr This volume is motivated in part by the observation that opposites permeate everything around us, in some form or another. Its study has attracted the attention of countless minds for at least 2500 years. However, due to the lack of an accepted mathematical formalism for opposition it has not been explicitly studiedtoanygreatlengthin?eldsoutsideofphilosophyandlogic. This, despite the fact that we observe opposition everywhere in nature, our minds seem to divide the world into entities and opposite entities; indeed we use opposition everyday. We have become so accustomed to opposition that its existence is accepted, not usually questioned and its importance is constantly overlooked. On one hand, this volume is a ?st attempt to bring together researchers who are inquiring into the complementary nature of systems and processes and, on the other hand, provide some elementary components for a framework to establish a formalism for opposition-based computing. From a computational intelligence perspective, many successful opposition-based concepts have been in existence for a long time. It is not our intention to recast these existing methods, rather to elucidate that, while diverse, they all share the commonality of opposition - in one form or another, either implicitly or explicitly. To this end, we have attempted to provide rough guidelines to understand what makes concepts “oppositional”.

The year 2008 is a memorial year for Georgiy Vorono (1868-1908), with a number of events in the scientific community commemorating his tremendous contribution to the area of mathematics, especially number theory, through conferences and scientific gatherings in his honor. A notable event taking place in September 2008 a joint c- ference: the 5th Annual International Symposium on Voronoi Diagrams (ISVD) and the 4th International Conference on Analytic Number Theory and Spatial Tessel- tions held in Kyiv, Georgiy Vorono ’s native land. The main ideas expressed by G. Vorono ’s through his fundamental works have influenced and shaped the key dev- opments in computation geometry, image recognition, artificial intelligence, robotics, computational science, navigation and obstacle avoidance, geographical information systems, molecular modeling, astrology, physics, quantum computing, chemical en- neering, material sciences, terrain modeling, biometrics and other domains. This book is intended to provide the reader with in-depth overview and analysis of the fundamental methods and techniques developed following G. Voronoi ideas, in the context of the vast and increasingly growing area of computational intelligence. It represents the collection of state-of-the art research methods merging the bridges between two areas: geometric computing through Voronoi diagrams and intelligent computation techniques, pushing the limits of current knowledge in the area, impr- ing on previous solutions, merging sciences together, and inventing new ways of approaching difficult applied problems.

This book encapsulates recent applications of CI methods in the field of computational oncology, especially cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and its optimized therapeutics. The cancer has been known as a heterogeneous disease categorized in several different subtypes. According to WHO’s recent report, cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for over 10 million deaths in the year 2020. Therefore, its early diagnosis, prognosis, and classification to a subtype have become necessary as it facilitates the subsequent clinical management and therapeutics plan. Computational intelligence (CI) methods, including artificial neural networks (ANNs), fuzzy logic, evolutionary computations, various machine learning and deep learning, and nature-inspired algorithms, have been widely utilized in various aspects of oncology research, viz. diagnosis, prognosis, therapeutics, and optimized clinical management. Appreciable progress has been made toward the understanding the hallmarks of cancer development, progression, and its effective therapeutics. However, notwithstanding the extrinsic and intrinsic factors which lead to drastic increment in incidence cases, the detection, diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutics remain an apex challenge for the medical fraternity. With the advent in CI-based approaches, including nature-inspired techniques, and availability of clinical data from various high-throughput experiments, medical consultants, researchers, and oncologists have seen a hope to devise and employ CI in various aspects of oncology. The main aim of the book is to occupy state-of-the-art applications of CI methods which have been derived from core computer sciences to back medical oncology. This edited book covers artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic and fuzzy inference systems, evolutionary algorithms, various nature-inspired algorithms, and hybrid intelligent systems which are widely appreciated for the diagnosis, prognosis, and optimization of therapeutics of various cancers. Besides, this book also covers multi-omics exploration, gene expression analysis, gene signature identification of cancers, genomic characterization of tumors, anti-cancer drug design and discovery, drug response prediction by means of CI, and applications of IoT, IoMT, and blockchain technology in cancer research.

Synthesis of Nanomaterials is a beginner’s guide to the synthesis and characterization of biomaterials for medical devices and implants. It presents 8 chapters explaining the use of biomaterials in medicine and pharmacology. The concepts are explained with the guidance of specialists who present the principal techniques and methods to obtain high-performance polymers and composite materials. Starting with an introduction to the subject, the book explains nanomaterials synthesis and progresses towards engineering applications. The chapters also cover modern biomaterials such as stimuli-responsive biomaterials, hydrogels, and self-healing materials. One chapter is dedicated to computational and theoretical techniques in biomedicine and a final chapter covering microencapsulation for advanced drug delivery rounds up the contents. Synthesis of Nanomaterials is a primary reference book for undergraduate and graduate students as well as professors involved in multidisciplinary research and teaching programs.
