Traça-se aqui a construção histórica a partir do caso do Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol, tendo em vista o período de 1971 a 2018, em que se destaca a relação entre os grupos midiáticos de comunicação e o principal torneio de futebol realizado no país. A obra propõe-se a relatar essa relação enfatizando, especialmente, quatro momentos: a realização da Copa União em 1987; a cessão dos direitos de transmissão a partir do Campeonato Brasileiro de 1997; os novos acordos que surgem em 2011 depois do Termo de Cessação de Conduta entre Grupo Globo, Clube dos Treze e CBF; e a disputa entre Globo e Esporte Interativo para os direitos a partir de 2019. A decisão de um órgão dedicado a evitar problemas na concorrência do setor econômico, o Cade, poderia ter regularizado o mercado brasileiro de aquisição de direitos de transmissão de eventos esportivos, mas acaba mudando para pior o modelo de negócio, com o fim da centralização da oferta e a implosão da associação de clubes. Novos efeitos vieram dois contratos depois, gerando resultados contrários ao mesmo Grupo Globo que atuou pelas alterações anteriores. Nesse espaço, o Esporte Interativo inaugura uma concorrência responsável por mudar a distribuição de valores dos meios de comunicação, mas abre a possibilidade de um "apagão do Brasileirão", com partidas sem poderem ser transmitidas. The ideas for this reader came out of a conference organized through the Centre for Global Citizenship Education and Research (CGCER) at the University of Alberta in 2013. With the high expansion of global citizenship education scholarship in the past 15 or so years, and with most of this scholarship produced in the west and mostly focused on the citizenship lives of people in the so-called developing world, or selectively attempting to explain the contexts of marginalized populations in the west, the need for multidirectional and decolonizing knowledge and research perspectives should be clear.
