A hospitalidade, que pode ser condicionada ou absoluta, nos faz adentrar em normas, pactos e leis ou nas relações de (re)conhecimento da alteridade, bem como na hostilidade e percepção do outro como inimigo. A hospitalidade está na organização básica da vinculação humana e da cultura; ela nos apresenta a relação com o outro, a relação para com o estrangeiro. Assim, problematizamos como a hospitalidade se apresenta nas estratégias de acolhimento de uma Comunidade Terapêutica na cidade de Parnaíba-PI. Objetivamos cartografar as práticas de hospitalidade na rotina de uma comunidade terapêutica; caracterizar as articulações com a Rede de Atenção Psicossocial (RAPS); analisar os processos de institucionalização e de hospitalidade vivenciados nesses serviços; e refletir sobre a hospitalidade e o acolhimento em saúde mental à luz da filosofia da diferença e do pensamento da desconstrução. Dessa forma, este livro é a tessitura de muitas vozes, afetos, encontros e desencontros nas ofertas de cuidado e acolhimento da RAPS para Álcool e Drogas e as Comunidades Terapêuticas. Nessa escrita se escuta a condição de estrangeiro do autor e dos recolhidos/acolhidos nessa casa/abrigo/igreja em sua pluralidade, amplitude e complexidade; é, sobretudo, um convite a se colocar a questionar e refletir sobre o que estamos fazendo com essas vidas nômades e o direcionamento dos cuidados em saúde mental.

Every year, the World Bank’s World Development Report (WDR) features a topic of central importance to global development. The 2018 WDR—LEARNING to Realize Education’s Promise—is the first ever devoted entirely to education. And the time is right: education has long been critical to human welfare, but it is even more so in a time of rapid economic and social change. The best way to equip children and youth for the future is to make their learning the center of all efforts to promote education. The 2018 WDR explores four main themes: First, education’s promise: education is a powerful instrument for eradicating poverty and promoting shared prosperity, but fulfilling its potential requires better policies—both within and outside the education system. Second, the need to shine a light on learning: despite gains in access to education, recent learning assessments reveal that many young people around the world, especially those who are poor or marginalized, are leaving school unequipped with even the foundational skills they need for life. At the same time, internationally comparable learning assessments show that skills in many middle-income countries lag far behind what those countries aspire to. And too often these shortcomings are hidden—so as a first step to tackling this learning crisis, it is essential to shine a light on it by assessing student learning better. Third, how to make schools work for all learners: research on areas such as brain science, pedagogical innovations, and school management has identified interventions that promote learning by ensuring that learners are prepared, teachers are both skilled and motivated, and other inputs support the teacher-learner relationship. Fourth, how to make systems work for learning: achieving learning throughout an education system requires more than just scaling up effective interventions. Countries must also overcome technical and political barriers by deploying salient metrics for mobilizing actors and tracking progress, building coalitions for learning, and taking an adaptive approach to reform.

This book explores liberalism's past and present transformations and proposes a prospective future as a neo-republican democratic liberalism. Bellamy engages with theorists of liberalism from J. S. Mill, through T. H. Green, Guido De Ruggiero, Carl Schmitt and Joseph Schumpeter, to F. A. Hayek, John Rawls and Michael Walzer. He contends that the pluralism and complexity of modern societies have undermined liberalism's communitarian and ethical assumptions. Studies of the Poll Tax fiasco in Britain, and of the constitutional dilemmas posed by the European Union confirm the contemporary inadequacies of traditional conceptions of liberal democracy. Drawing on Max Weber, Bellamy advocates a return to a Machiavellian approach to politics to resolve the clashes resulting from competing values within complex situations. Unlike Weber however, he concentrates on the republican and democratic aspects of Machiavelli's thought. He proposes a republican strategy whereby the political dispersal of power constrains any ideal or interest from dominating another. Instead, everyone must seek mutually acceptable compromises. The essays in "Rethinking Liberalism" map a passage from the liberal democratic norms and forms characteristic of nineteenth-century nation states, to an agnostic, democratic liberal politics suitable for the transnational and plural societies of the new millennium.

Dr. Maurizio Andolfi, "Andi" to my dog and me, is one of the fourth generation family therapy theorists. This book, which he calls "interac tional," is probably one you would not enjoy. Maybe you could give it to a rival colleague on his birthday. Combining the teachings of Zwerling and Laperriere with Ferber is confusing. Add to that a Horney analysis and stir with two ounces of Minuchin and a dram of Haley, and Andolfi becomes distracting to his friends and colleagues. His work with Can crini reacculturated him somewhat, but a Roman is a Roman, and, of course, he could not understand such problems as those we conquer in the United States. Assuming your rival is a well-trained, cause-and-effect thinker, you might find ways to watch him squirm. If he has not tried paradoxical methods, expect him to take a long vacation from work. If he is already a good family therapist, he may become a bit hypomanic, and his team may talk to you in private. Encourage them to suggest that he work harder and stop reading the book or, better still, donate it to the social work school library; they will read anything. If the team complains that the book advises teaching sick families how to be their own therapists, resist any impulse to check this out. No family could become self reparative when it is already dysfunctional. We know that professional help is the only hope.
