This book demonstrates how foreign language self-esteem (FLSE) affects foreign language (L2) learning and teaching, and how it fluctuates with growing proficiency. Further, it explains the interaction between FLSE and a range of factors of recognized importance in second language acquisition (SLA). The theoretical part of the book presents the main pillars of self-esteem as well as its notable influence on psychological functioning and learning, with special emphasis being placed on L2 learning. In turn, the empirical part presents the findings of a study that explored the trajectory and behavioural outcomes of FLSE across three stages of education. The book closes by outlining future research directions, as well as some pedagogical implications. In particular, the findings of the study can be employed in teaching English as a foreign or second language by helping instructors understand the significance of learners’ individual differences.

Every secondary school pupil studies modern foreign languages as part of the curriculum, and some do so with considerably more success than others. This book looks firstly at the ways in which languages can be taught, and secondly at case studies that highlight the practical methods that will help teachers get the best results. The case studies included show that the best learners are those who have developed learning strategies that help them succeed. These learning strategies are examined through practical examples carried out in classrooms, and advice is given about ways in which teachers can ensure that all their pupils have the opportunity to develop these skills. Lots of suggestions are made about the various activities teachers can carry out in order to make learning enjoyable and positive. In some cases, the results are shown to be very encouraging and any language teacher should be left with a feeling not only of renewed enthusiasm for their subject area but also a deeper understanding of how to enable learners to reach their full potential.

Developing Cross Cultural Relational Ability In Foreign Language Learning written by Gerrard Mugford and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-23 with Education categories.

By reconceptualizing successful communication in a foreign language as an enjoyable and uplifting experience, this volume moves beyond a focus on grammatical accuracy and fluency to foreground the ways in which foreign language learners can be encouraged to build on previous achievements and communicative successes in the target language and so develop confidence, commitment and cross-cultural relational ability. Building on Mugford’s previous volume, Addressing Difficult Situations in Foreign-Language Learning (2019), this text draws on grounded qualitative data collected through questionnaires, semi-structured interviews and conversations with Spanish-speaking learners of English, to illustrate how learners’ experiences and insights can be used to inform a productive pedagogy centred around language users’ communicative objectives and interactional successes. Chapters highlight bilingual speakers’ conscious language use, practices and choices in the target language and the reasons and implications for such deliberate communicative practices and relational behaviour. In doing so, Mugford is able to outline a critical relational pedagogy designed to better equip language learners with the confidence and pragmatic resources they require to engage in positive cross-cultural relational work. As a valuable, student-centred contribution to teaching and learning of modern foreign languages, this volume will be key reading for researchers, scholars and educators with an interest in language education, TESOL, World Language teaching and Applied Linguistics.

This is a manual for training teachers in the Sandtray Play in Education method. It introduces a holistic approach to childhood education that returns the child's natural medium of creative play to the learning environment. Sadly, most approaches to contemporary childhood education are not successful in teaching children the riches of language and numbers and the capacities to think, inquire and create. We are failing our children by not designing educational curricula that is appropriate to the learning styles of children.

Self Esteem And Foreign Language Learning written by Fernando Rubio and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-02-19 with Philosophy categories.

Self-Esteem and Foreign Language Learning deals with a topic which has been given surprisingly little attention in Second and Foreign Language Acquisition studies. Although there are several studies dealing with general education, this volume addresses the need to take self-esteem into consideration in the language classroom and adopts both theoretical/research and practical perspectives, with the hope of being useful for both researchers and practitioners. The book is organized into three main parts. Part I serves as an introduction to self-esteem. Part II reports on the existing literature about the theory and research dealing with self-esteem and foreign language learning, and Part III includes procedures for implementation and activities for classroom applications. Self-Esteem and Foreign Language Learning is edited by Fernando Rubio (PhD.), a researcher and teacher at the University of Huelva in Spain. Most of the chapters have been written by members of the research group “Affective factors in language learning”, which has also published a book on Multiple Intelligences and the teaching of English (Dr. Jane Arnold, Dr. Carmen Fonseca, etc.). There are two outside contributions: one is by Andrew Wright, author of numerous publications for language teachers, and the other by Veronica de Andrés, teacher trainer from the University of El Salvador (Argentina) and member of the executive board of the International Council for Self-Esteem. Dr. Elaine Horwitz of the University of Texas has contributed a preface.
