Confusion, splitting, shame and guilt are problematic feelings for all people with complex, lasting ramifications associated with dissociative processing in the psychic. Direct or indirect interpersonal violence in particular, however, creates a multiple of these gruelling conditions and that too in very paradoxical states, so that one feels torn apart although one has acted correctly or feels guilty for something one has not done at all or feels shame for an abuse one has survived as a victim. A variety of such interesting phenomena are explained by experts in such a way that both practitioners and trauma clients and non-professionals can understand them well. Photos from the therapy facilitate the clarity and show in particular SPIM-30 programme treatment settings, for which derivations can be found in this book.

"Anyone who works with troubled children and their families should not miss this book. Healing the Fractured Child weaves together comprehensive theory and neurobiology that substantiate practical treatment guidelines for children and their families. The complexity of symptoms, diagnoses, assessment, use of medication, and a variety of innovative treatment approaches for stabilization, trauma processing and integration are explored and come to life through the clear, practical and touching clinical illustrations peppered throughout the book. Fran Waters has drawn on her vast clinical experience and thorough knowledge of current perspectives on dissociation and child therapy to write an integrative, readable, and immensely useful masterpiece, a gift to the field of child psychology and psychotherapy and to the many therapists, children and parents who will benefit from her wisdom." --Pat Ogden PhD, Founder, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute; Author, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Interventions for Trauma and Attachment "A skillfully written, comprehensive and remarkable volume. Well-grounded in theory and full of rich, practical applications and detailed case examples. Water's outstanding work will expand clinicians' capacity to understand and assess dissociation as well as to effectively accompany children in their healing journeys. An essential resource for therapists of all orientations working with trauma and dissociation." Ana M. GÛmez, MC, LPC, Author of EMDR Therapy and Adjunct Approaches with Children: Complex Trauma, Attachment and Dissociation "Healing the Fractured Child" provides an invaluable source of information for all professionals and non-professionals interested in childhood dissociation. Based on her many years of experience in this field, Waters takes us from an explanation of dissociation and related theories to the behaviors which may be noticed by a parent, teacher or doctor, through the assessment quagmire and the challenges of parenting, to the important work of emotional regulation and the identification of self-states, bringing in consideration of where medication can or cannot assist and describing the hard work of trauma processing, to integration, possible relapse, and back again to even stronger internal integration. The intricately described clinical examples provide a plethora of ideas for working with these children and offer readers the encouragement and hope so important for working with children who experienced trauma. Sandra Wieland, Ph.D., R.Psych. Illuminates the most promising treatments available for dissociative children Written by one of the nation's leading practitioners in the field of childhood trauma, abuse, and dissociation, this comprehensive resource fills a void in the literature to provide in-depth knowledge of current interventions for treating dissociation in youth. It describes a detailed, careful assessment process and creative, evidence-supported techniques for helping children and their families to heal from chaotic, traumatizing experiences. With both a theoretical and practical focus, the book offers proven strategies for successfully treating children and adolescents with varying degrees of dissociation and co-morbid symptoms. It also integrates adjunct therapies in environments beyond those of traditional psychotherapy, such as school, and describes how their strategies can be used effectively to augment therapy and understand dissociative children. Based on a model integrating five prominent therapeutic modalities, and underscoring the importance of attachment style, the book focuses on the neurobiology of trauma, a high co-morbidity of symptoms, specialized clinical interventions, psychopharmacology, and family intervention techniques. Also addressed are adjunct therapies in art, and EMDR. In addition, the book provides a window into the effects of traumatic events such as medical illness that may be overlooked, and safe techniques with dissociative youth who are exhibiting dangerous behaviors. Rich clinical examples demonstrate the various phases of treatment and offer a window into the internal world of dissociative children. This resource provides mental health clinicians, and other health professionals with a wealth of tools to effectively treat this troubled client population. Key Features: Describes theoretical conceptualization and specialized integrative techniques to treat dissociative children effectively Integrates psychotherapy with EMDR, art therapy, neurobiology and psychopharmacology Distills current research on neurobiology of trauma and how to intervene with specially designed treatment strategies Provides in-depth knowledge of the latest creative interventions for treatment across degrees and ages of dissociation, and co-morbid symptoms Sensitizes the therapist to often overlooked traumatic events, e.g. medical illness, that can exacerbate symptoms

An International Perspective On Disasters And Children S Mental Health written by Christina W. Hoven and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-07-18 with Medical categories.

This book provides a broad international perspective on the psychological trauma faced by children and adolescents exposed to major disasters, and on the local public health response to their needs. An outstanding quality of the book is that it draws upon the experience of local researchers, clinicians, and public mental health practitioners who dedicated themselves to these children in the wake of overwhelming events. The chapters address exemplary responses to a wide variety of trauma types, including severe weather, war, industrial catastrophes, earthquakes, and terrorism. Because disasters do not recognize geographic, economic, or political boundaries, the chapters have been selected to reflect the diverse global community’s attempt to respond to vulnerable children in the most challenging times. The book, thus, examines a diverse range of healthcare systems, cultural settings, mental health infrastructure, government policies, and the economic factors that have played an important role in responses to traumatic events. The ultimate goal of this book is to stimulate future international collaborations and interventions that will promote children’s mental health in the face of disaster.

The Adventure Of Self Discovery written by Stanislav Grof and has been published by SUNY Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1988-01-31 with Psychology categories.

Here Grof presents a useful model of the psyche—a model extended by his thirty years of studying non-ordinary states of consciousness. It is useful for understanding such phenomena as shamanism, mysticism, psychedelic states, spontaneous visionary experiences, and psychotic episodes. The model is also useful in explaining the dynamics of experiential psychotherapies and a variety of sociopolitical manifestations such as war and revolution. This book might have been entitled Beyond Drugs. The second part describes the principles and process of the non-pharmacological technique developed by the author and his wife, Christina, for self-exploration and for psychotherapy. Grof explores in detail the components of this technique. He describes its method, its effective mechanisms, as well as its goals and potential. Its practice is simple, since it utilizes the natural healing capacity of the psyche.

Healing Our Deepest Wounds written by Stanislav Grof and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with Holotropic Breathwork (Trademark) categories.

Dr. Grof's consciousness research over the last five decades has shown that the deepest roots of trauma often lie in experiences from birth or in events from human history that have not yet been resolved and are still active in the collective unconscious. This unresolved personal or collective history then expresses through an individual or group that has some connection to the earlier events. Traditional therapeutic approaches which focus only on events in the personal biography or tranquilizing medications do not access or heal these deeper wounds in the human psyche. From a more general perspective, Dr. Grof examines the broad problems of violence and greed in society and finds that the widespread fear and aggression between individuals and groups may also originate in large part from the unconscious acting-out of unresolved historical traumas from the collective unconscious. The message of Dr. Grof and this book is, however, a hopeful one: there are approaches to therapy which utilize a specific non-ordinary state of consciousness which enables individuals, with support, to access and heal these deeper levels of trauma from the personal and collective unconscious. He has named this state of consciousness Holotropic, a composite word which means “oriented toward wholeness” or “moving in the direction of wholeness” (from the Greek holos = whole and trepo, trepein = moving toward or in the direction of something). Dr. Grof describes various approaches to achieving this Holotropic state and using it for healing, with his focus on Holotropic Breathwork, which he developed with his partner Christina, and psychedelic therapy, which he pioneered in the 1950s and which is now experiencing a renaissance of clinical research for treatment of addictions and PTSD.

Much has already been written about trauma psychotherapeutic methods. However, little research has so far been done on how psychodynamic traumatic incidents are psychologically mapped and coded into symptoms of the body and into mental images – although this topic is extremely exciting! How is psychological stressful data saved and stored by humans depending on their age, the cruelty level of the incident or the accumulation of terrible events? Which variants of remembrance are available to the body and mind? How can encrypted data be later retrieved and decrypted, so it is therapeutically effective and emotionally acceptable? This book is a collection of theoretical and practical contributions that can be understood by psychotherapeutic colleagues and affected clients alike. The illustrative case examples are also interesting for anyone who wants to experience the logic and contradictions of the fascinating unconscious.

Cardiac Surgical Operative Atlas written by Wahlers, Thorsten and has been published by Lehmanns Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-01-01 with categories.

There is nothing quite like the pleasure of ”passing on“ the lessons of surgery from one generation to the next. As experienced cardiac surgeons, all of us remember the trainee phase in our specialty when we tried to acquire all of the available Operative Atlases we could find and studying from them to prepare for the next day of teaching in the operating room. However, written chapters and drawings are different as compared to real surgery. To overcome this limitation, we developed together the second edition of this new-concept operative atlas. When our co-editor, the New York Professor of Cardiac Surgery, David H. Adams, first received a copy of the German Cardiac Surgical Operative Atlas edited by Thorsten Wahlers and Thorsten Wittwer, with a request to provide an additional chapter on Tricuspid Valve Repair for this first English edition, he was struck by the simplicity and obvious utility of this book. He considered it not hard to understand why the total first German Edition sold out in a matter of months. In the second International Edition of the Cardiac Surgical Operative Atlas, the beginning surgeon can review very basic techniques and maneuvers such as cannulation strategies and internal mammary harvest. In other chapters, cardiac surgeons of all levels can review complex procedures such as valve sparing or reconstructive operations, captured step by step with high-quality operative photographs. As good as the art work is in a typical Operative Atlas, original pictures from an actual surgical procedure provide the student of surgery with a depth and clarity not possible in a drawn picture. The accompanying concise legends provide the reader with the key points and “take home messages” to learn from each photograph. We have no doubt there is something in this Atlas for every student of cardiac surgery, from the surgical resident at the beginning of his training over the more experienced surgeon “on-call” being confronted with a complex case in the middle of the night to the expert surgeon wanting to learn an advanced technique. Operative Atlases have been an essential part of surgical training since the beginning, and this particular edition is designed to be helpful for young cardiac surgeons and is hopefully a valuable addition to anyone´s collection.
