Gleichzeitig ist unsere Klanglandschaft siebenmal lauter als die vor hundert Jahren und damit die lauteste, die es jemals gegeben hat. Circa 70 Prozent der heutigen Umgebungsgeräusche werden künstlich erzeugt. Diese Arbeit aus dem Jahr 2001 geht der zentralen Frage nach, was Unternehmen tun, um Menschen über das Hören in ihrem Sinne zu beeinflussen. Dazu werden die Grundlagen des Hörens vermittelt, die wichtigsten Ergebnisse der Psychoakustik kurz vorgestellt und gezeigt, in welchem Maße Sound-Engineering diese anwendet. Zum Abschluss geht es um Verantwortung: Was können Wirtschaft, Politik und jeder Einzelne leisten, damit unsere Lautsphäre ein menschenwürdiges Leben ermöglicht.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2015 im Fachbereich Biologie - Krankheiten, Gesundheit, Ernährung, Note: 1,3, , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Wie schon das berühmte Zitat des Mediziners Robert Koch, "Die Seuche der Zukunft wird der Lärm sein, und die Menschheit wird den Lärm eines Tages ebenso erbittert bekämpfen müssen wie die Pest oder die Cholera“, zeigt, ist Lärm als gesundheitliches Risiko nicht zu unterschätzen. Auch wenn sich die Hypothese nicht bewahrheitet hat, da sich der Lärm nicht in Epidemien ausbreitet und auch wohl nie durch eine Impfung besiegt wird, erweist sich der Ausspruch dennoch als zukunftsweisend. So fühlen sich nach einer Studie 40 % der Befragten vom Straßenverkehr stark gestört, nur 15 % gaben an davon gar nicht gestört zu werden. Jedoch ist Lärm in der Lernumgebung auch nicht pauschal zu verurteilen da sich moderater Lärm sogar positiv auf die Kreativität auswirken kann wie eine Studie der Universität Chicago ergab. Beim Lärm handelt es sich also um ein Phänomen mit verschiedenen Facetten. "[Lärm ist] Schall, der für Betroffene unerwünscht ist oder geeignet, sie psychisch, physisch, sozial oder ökonomisch zu beeinträchtigen". Diese Definition trägt der Tatsache Rechnung, dass Schall nicht unbedingt als störend erlebt werden muss, um Schädigungen hervorzurufen. So wie etwa ein Konzert- oder Festivalbesucher den erwünschten Lärm billigt und dabei eine Schädigung seines Gehörs in Kauf nimmt. Auf diese Form von Lärm werde ich in der folgenden Arbeit jedoch weniger eingehen sondern auf den weit unterschätzten Lärm am alltäglichen Lernplatz in zum Beispiel der eigenen Wohnung, der Bibliothek oder in Räumlichkeiten der Universität. Dabei werde ich zunächst einige Grundlagen des Hörens zusammen fassen, mich dann mit den Lärmquellen und den Auswirkungen auf den menschlichen Organismus und den daraus folgenden Auswirkungen auf den Lernprozess auseinander setzen und mich schlussendlich mit möglichen Schutzmaßnahmen gegen den Lärm beschäftigen.

In this history of aural culture in early-twentieth-century America, Emily Thompson charts dramatic transformations in what people heard and how they listened. What they heard was a new kind of sound that was the product of modern technology. They listened as newly critical consumers of aural commodities. By examining the technologies that produced this sound, as well as the culture that enthusiastically consumed it, Thompson recovers a lost dimension of the Machine Age and deepens our understanding of the experience of change that characterized the era. Reverberation equations, sound meters, microphones, and acoustical tiles were deployed in places as varied as Boston's Symphony Hall, New York's office skyscrapers, and the soundstages of Hollywood. The control provided by these technologies, however, was applied in ways that denied the particularity of place, and the diverse spaces of modern America began to sound alike as a universal new sound predominated. Spectral, Photon Counting Computed Tomography is a comprehensive cover of the latest developments in the most prevalent imaging modality (x-ray computed tomography (CT)) in its latest incarnation: Spectral, Dual-Energy, and Photon Counting CT. Disadvantages of the conventional single-energy technique used by CT technology are that different materials cannot be distinguished and that the noise is larger. To address these problems, a novel spectral CT concept has been proposed. Spectral Dual-Energy CT (DE-CT) acquires two sets of spectral data, and Spectral Photon Counting CT (PC-CT) detects energy of x-ray photons to reveal additional material information of objects by using novel energy-sensitive, photon-counting detectors. The K-edge imaging may be a gateway for functional or molecular CT. The book covers detectors and electronics, image reconstruction methods, image quality assessments, a simulation tool, nanoparticle contrast agents, and clinical applications for spectral CT.
