Crosstalk written by Connie Willis and has been published by Del Rey this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-04 with Fiction categories.

Science fiction icon Connie Willis brilliantly mixes a speculative plot, the wit of Nora Ephron, and the comedic flair of P. G. Wodehouse in Crosstalk—a genre-bending novel that pushes social media, smartphone technology, and twenty-four-hour availability to hilarious and chilling extremes as one young woman abruptly finds herself with way more connectivity than she ever desired. NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY NPR In the not-too-distant future, a simple outpatient procedure to increase empathy between romantic partners has become all the rage. And Briddey Flannigan is delighted when her boyfriend, Trent, suggests undergoing the operation prior to a marriage proposal—to enjoy better emotional connection and a perfect relationship with complete communication and understanding. But things don’t quite work out as planned, and Briddey finds herself connected to someone else entirely—in a way far beyond what she signed up for. It is almost more than she can handle—especially when the stress of managing her all-too-eager-to-communicate-at-all-times family is already burdening her brain. But that’s only the beginning. As things go from bad to worse, she begins to see the dark side of too much information, and to realize that love—and communication—are far more complicated than she ever imagined. Praise for Crosstalk “A rollicking send-up of obsessive cell phone usage in too-near-future America . . . [Connie] Willis’s canny incorporation of scientific lore, and a riotous cast . . . make for an engaging girl-finally-finds-right-boy story that’s unveiled with tact and humor. Willis juxtaposes glimpses of claimed historical telepaths with important reflections about the ubiquity of cell phones and the menace that unscrupulous developers of technology pose to privacy, morality, and emotional stability.”—Publishers Weekly “An exhilarating and laugh-inducing read . . . one of those rare books that will keep you up all night long because you can’t bear to put it down.”—Portland Book Review “A fun technological fairy tale.”—BookPage “One of the funniest SF novels in years.”—Locus

Optical communications networks are an essential part of the world wide te- communication infrastructure . The number of users of present and future telecommunication services like Internet, web browsing and tele-education is expected to increase dramatically . As a consequence there is an imminent - mand for high broadband and high capacity communication systems. A prom- ing solution is found in the concept of all-optical networks . These networks exploit the vast capacity of the optical fiber by using multiplexing techniques that allow for an overall capacity of terabits per second. Channels are routed and switched in the optical domain . In this manner data channels are carried from the receiver side to its destination making use of optical transmission techniques . Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) is a transmission technique that has dramatically increased the capacity of optical transmission systems. WDM allows for transmission of several channels over a single optical fiber by - ing different wavelength as the channel carrier . Optical switching and routing techniques are also being developed to cope with the high data speeds and n- ber of channel carried in the optical fibers. These functionalities are provided by optical crossconnects. The use of transmission techniques such as WDM in combination with optical crossconnects is enabling optical networking at high bit-rates reaching terabits per second . These techniques also offer ways to improve the network flexibility and configurability .

The Cellular Secretome and Organ Crosstalk focuses on the release of peptides and proteins from different organs and their specific functions in metabolic regulation and cell- and organ crosstalk. The book is written for experts in the field, however, for each topic, helpful references are included. The book also includes technical sections that summarize the state-of-the-art of secretome and crosstalk analysis. This book fulfills the need for a resource that comprehensively describes the current knowledge of secretome biology in health and disease. Communication between different organs involves lipids and other small molecules and a host of proteins and peptides comprising the secretome of different organs (organokinome). More than 600 adipokines have been identified, and an increasing number of hepatokines and myokines have recently been discovered with mostly unknown physiological impact. Importantly, an aberrant signature of the organokinome may be critically underlying a variety of metabolic diseases and may determine the individual susceptibility to disease development. Summarizes our current knowledge on the secretome of different cells and tissues Dissects auto-, para- and endocrine functions of major secreted peptides and proteins Analyzes the secretory malfunction of different cells and its impact for disease development Authored by a leader in the field, presenting a coherent view on this very complex topic

To allow DSL systems to support an always increasing amount of high-rate applications and run them stably, high data rates need to be guaranteed at a limited amount of computational complexity available for crosstalk mitigation. In this dissertation, first a channel estimation technique and channel adaptation procedures are presented as sufficiently accurate channel state information is the basis for many crosstalk reduction methods. The proposed techniques lead to increased performance of DSL systems. In the second and main part, crosstalk mitigation methods to fulfill data rate constraints in DSL networks are introduced. They achieve the high data rate targets at a low computational complexity.

Static Crosstalk Noise Analysis written by Pinhong Chen and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-05-08 with Technology & Engineering categories.

As the feature size decreases in deep sub-micron designs, coupling capacitance becomes the dominant factor in total capacitance. The resulting crosstalk noise may be responsible for signal integrity issues and significant timing variation. Traditionally, static timing analysis tools have ignored cross coupling effects between wires altogether. Newer tools simply approximate the coupling capacitance by a 2X Miller factor in order to compute the worst case delay. The latter approach not only reduces delay calculation accuracy, but can also be shown to underestimate the delay in certain scenarios. This book describes accurate but conservative methods for computing delay variation due to coupling. Furthermore, most of these methods are computationally efficient enough to be employed in a static timing analysis tool for complex integrated digital circuits. To achieve accuracy, a more accurate computation of the Miller factor is derived. To achieve both computational efficiency and accuracy, a variety of mechanisms for pruning the search space are detailed, including: -Spatial pruning - reducing aggressors to those in physical proximity, -Electrical pruning - reducing aggressors by electrical strength, -Temporal pruning - reducing aggressors using timing windows, -Functional pruning - reducing aggressors by Boolean functional analysis.

Chinese and Americans often unwittingly communicate at cross purposes because they are misled by the cultural trappings of talk. This book aims to clarify their misunderstandings by examining their different ideals and strategies of talk. It draws on cultural, philosophical, and linguistic insights and traces the development of Chinese communicative strategies from Confucius through the 'eight-legged essay' to the boardrooms and streets of Hong Kong. Its formal analysis of taped interchanges and in-depth interviews reveals Chinese speakers' distinctive ways of communicating and relating. Crosstalk and Culture in Sino-American Communication will alert people to the pitfalls of cultural misunderstandings and the hidden assumptions and expectations underlying talk.
