Numerical Symbolic And Statistical Computing For Chemical Engineers Using Matlab written by Ghosh, Pallab and has been published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-09-01 with Mathematics categories.
Numerical, analytical and statistical computations are routine affairs for chemical engineers. They usually prefer a single software to solve their computational problems, and at present, MATLAB has emerged as a powerful computational language, which is preferably used for this purpose, due to its built-in functions and toolboxes. Considering the needs and convenience of the students, the author has made an attempt to write this book, which explains the various concepts of MATLAB in a systematic way and makes its readers proficient in using MATLAB for computing. It mainly focuses on the applications of MATLAB, rather than its use in programming basic numerical algorithms. Commencing with the introduction to MATLAB, the text covers vector and matrix computations, solution of linear and non-linear equations, differentiation and integration, and solution of ordinary and partial differential equations. Next, analytical computations using the Symbolic Math Toolbox and statistical computations using the Statistics and Machine Learning Toolbox are explained. Finally, the book describes various curve fitting techniques using the Curve Fitting Toolbox. Inclusion of all these advanced-level topics in the book stands it out from the rest. KEY FEATURES Numerous worked-out examples to enable the readers understand the steps involved in solving the chemical engineering problems MATLAB codes to explain the computational techniques Several snapshots to help the readers understand the step-by-step procedures of using the toolboxes Chapter-end exercises, including short-answer questions and numerical problems Appendix comprising the definitions of some important and special matrices Supplemented with Solutions Manual containing complete detailed solutions to the unsolved analytical problems Accessibility of selected colour figures (including screenshots and results/outputs of the programs) cited in the text at www.phindia.com/Pallab_Ghosh. Programming And Engineering Computing With Matlab 2022 written by Huei-Huang Lee and has been published by SDC Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on with Computers categories.
This book is designed for undergraduate students completely new to programming with MATLAB. Case studies and examples are used extensively throughout this book and are at the core of what makes this book so unique. The author believes that the best way to learn MATLAB is to study programs written by experienced programmers and that the quality of these example programs determines the quality of the book. The examples in this book are carefully designed to teach you MATLAB programming as well as to inspire within you your own problem solving potential. Most of the examples used in this book are designed to solve a whole class of problems, rather than a single, specific problem. A learn by doing teaching approach is used all through the book. You are guided to tackle a problem using MATLAB commands first and then the commands are explained line by line. This process of learning through hands on experience is one of the most efficient and pain-free ways of learning MATLAB. This approach, together with the extensive use of ordered textboxes, figures, and tables, greatly reduces the size of the book, while still providing you with a book that’s comprehensive and easy to follow. The first chapter of this book introduces the MATLAB programming environment and familiarizes you with MATLAB’s core functionality. Chapters two through nine discuss basic MATLAB functionalities in a progressive and comprehensive way. The chapters start out simple and build in complexity as you advance through the book. Chapters ten through thirteen cover advanced topics that are particularly useful in college programs. Each chapter consists of sections, each covering a topic and providing one or more examples. Related MATLAB functions are organized at the end of a section. Additional exercise problems are provided at the end of chapters two through nine. Examples in each section are presented in a consistent way. An example is usually described first, followed by a MATLAB script. Any resulting text and graphics output (and in some cases inputs) that are produced from running a script are presented and discussed. Finally, the remainder of each section is devoted to explaining the purpose of the lines of the script. Who this book is for This book is developed mainly for undergraduate engineering students. It may be used in courses such as Computers in Engineering, or others that use MATLAB as a software platform. It can also be used as a self-study book for learning MATLAB. College level engineering examples are used in this book. Background knowledge for these engineering examples is illustrated as thoroughly as possible.

With the growing popularity of “big data”, the potential value of personal data has attracted more and more attention. Applications built on personal data can create tremendous social and economic benefits. Meanwhile, they bring serious threats to individual privacy. The extensive collection, analysis and transaction of personal data make it difficult for an individual to keep the privacy safe. People now show more concerns about privacy than ever before. How to make a balance between the exploitation of personal information and the protection of individual privacy has become an urgent issue. In this book, the authors use methodologies from economics, especially game theory, to investigate solutions to the balance issue. They investigate the strategies of stakeholders involved in the use of personal data, and try to find the equilibrium. The book proposes a user-role based methodology to investigate the privacy issues in data mining, identifying four different types of users, i.e. four user roles, involved in data mining applications. For each user role, the authors discuss its privacy concerns and the strategies that it can adopt to solve the privacy problems. The book also proposes a simple game model to analyze the interactions among data provider, data collector and data miner. By solving the equilibria of the proposed game, readers can get useful guidance on how to deal with the trade-off between privacy and data utility. Moreover, to elaborate the analysis on data collector’s strategies, the authors propose a contract model and a multi-armed bandit model respectively. The authors discuss how the owners of data (e.g. an individual or a data miner) deal with the trade-off between privacy and utility in data mining. Specifically, they study users’ strategies in collaborative filtering based recommendation system and distributed classification system. They built game models to formulate the interactions among data owners, and propose learning algorithms to find the equilibria.
