E está escrito numa linguagem tão simples, tão elegante, que não há nenhuma amargura ou ressentimento em suas páginas. Ao contrário, há ternura e carinho pela cidade que nasceu de um forte português, numa ponta de terra que vinha sendo habitada há milênios. A simplicidade do texto absorve toda a aspereza, resultando num desejo infeccioso que nos amarra ao livro até a última página. Mas é, também, uma obra de consulta, não nos esqueçamos disso, um livro de referência que vem preencher uma lacuna. Manaus, que aparece de corpo inteiro neste livro, revela- se uma cidade de história acidentada, vítima constante de administrações públicas corruptas, incompetentes e brutais com o seu passado. Após o impulso de algumas administrações como a de Araújo Lima, ou durante a passagem de Eduardo Ribeiro pelo governo estadual, a Cidade praticamente ficou na mão de gestores que a odiavam e tudo fizeram para deixar a marca de sua perversidade administrativa. A série de informações e a junção de fotografias do passado, em justaposição às imagens do presente, indicam de forma inquestionável que a maioria dessas administrações não deixou legados, deixou feridas que cicatrizaram de forma horrível. E a cidade moderna, urbanizada, de ruas largas e avenidas monumentais, propostas por Eduardo Ribeiro, acabou melancolicamente numa enorme favela de vielas tortas, como esgoto a céu aberto, igarapés poluídos e o patrimônio arquitetônico abastardado. No entanto, por se tratar de uma obra rica em dados e fatos, cada leitor poderá lucrar com a sua leitura. Aqueles leitores que aqui chegam para passear ou trabalhar terão neste livro uma fonte rica para se familiarizarem com a cidade que os acolhe. Para os manauenses, é a oportunidade de constatar que nossa querida cidade tem raízes culturais profundas que nem as mais abrutalhadas opções conseguiram destruir. Para os estudantes, há nestas páginas o encontro com uma história rica de exemplos. No fim, é a cidade de Manaus que surge vitoriosa.
