The Purposes Of Education written by John Hattie and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-05-01 with Education categories.

What are the purposes of education and what is the relationship between educational research and policy? Using the twin lenses of Visible Learning and educational philosophy, these are among the many fascinating topics discussed in extended conversations between John Hattie and Steen Nepper Larsen. This wide-ranging and informative book offers fundamental propositions about the nature of education. It maps out in fascinating detail a coming together of Hattie’s empirical data and world-famous Visible Learning paradigm with the rich heritage of educational philosophy. Additionally, it explores the inevitable questions of the purpose of education and the development of students in a learning society. Part clash of cultures, part meeting of minds, always fascinating and illuminating, this intriguing book will inspire teachers, students, and parents at all levels of the educational system – from kindergarten through school to university. Conversations include: What are the purposes of education? Does educational data speak for itself? What is the role of the teacher? Is learning a visible phenomenon? Is it important to teach and learn specific subjects? What is the role of neuroscience research? What is the relationship between educational research and educational politics? What is the role of the state in education?

Social Pedagogy For The Entire Lifespan written by Jacob Kornbeck and has been published by BoD – Books on Demand this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-04 with Social Science categories.

The ambition of this two-volume publication is to illustrate the applicability of social pedagogy - as an academic and professional paradigm - to work with the most diverse target populations. It is launched at a moment when important and highly interesting developments can be observed in the United Kingdom: a country without a traditional social pedagogy model has started importing social pedagogy from countries with a social pedagogy tradition. Social Pedagogy for the Entire Lifespan illustrates how social pedagogy - as a model in theory and practice - has been and is currently being used, around and across Europe, for work with people of all age groups. Volume I is dedicated to the theory and history of social pedagogy, as well as to practice with children and young people. Chapters cover Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Norway and Spain. Volume II will include chapters on practice with adults and seniors, as well as chapters on further perspectives.

Meta Ethnographic Synthesis In Education written by Michalis Kakos and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-04-22 with Education categories.

Calls for “deparochialization of educational research” (Lingard 2006) have directed educational ethnography from the conventional research designs and from the study of single sites and local situations to the study of “the circulation of cultural meanings, objects and identities in diffuse time-spaces” (Marcus 1995: 96). In response to this call and following the already established tradition of use of meta-ethnography in health studies this volume explores the potentials of this method (Noblit & Hare, 1988) to unpick the interconnectedness of different educational sites which have been and are being studied ethnographically. Besides, metaethnographic analyses may also offer a credible response to the lessening of opportunities for original educational ethnographic research at times of limited resources. The volume examines the forms of translocal and transtemporal ethnographic synthesis currently in use by educational ethnographers as well as the challenges and the possibilities that the method offers. It also addresses and attempts to respond to the question if meta-ethnography might be a means to sharpen ethnographers’ sensitivity for each other’s work and achievements in the past. This book was originally published as a special issue of Ethnography and Education.

From Superman To Social Realism written by Helle Strandgaard Jensen and has been published by John Benjamins Publishing Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-03-31 with Literary Criticism categories.

Can children’s media be a source of education and empowerment? Or is the commercial media market a threat to their sense of social and democratic values? Such questions about the appropriateness of children’s media consumption have recurred in public debates throughout the twentieth century. From Superman to Social Realism provides an exciting new approach to the study of children’s media and childhood history, drawing on theories of cross-media consumption and transnational history. Based on extensive Scandinavian source material, it explores public debates about children’s media between 1945 and 1985. Readers are taken on a fascinating journey through debates about superheroes in the 1950s, politicization of children’s media in the 1960s, and about television and social realism in the 1980s. Arguments are firmly contextualized in Scandinavian childhood and welfare state history, an approach that demonstrates why professional and political groups have perceived children’s media as the key to the enculturation of future generations.

Rethinking Education In Light Of Global Challenges written by Karen Bjerg Petersen and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-11-24 with Education categories.

Rethinking Education in Light of Global Challenges discusses challenges to education in Scandinavian welfare states due to global trends like migration, neoliberal strategies, and the exploitation of nature. This anthology comprises case studies, theoretical articles, and reflective studies, grouped under the headings of Culture, Society, and the Anthropocene. This book directly addresses three interrelated global events and their implications for education as seen from Scandinavian perspectives: migration flows, increased cultural diversity, and (post)nationalism; the erosion of the welfare state and the global rise of neoliberalism; and the Anthropocene and environmental challenges arising in the wake of the global exploitation of natural ecosystems. In case studies, theoretical articles, and reflective studies, researchers from Nordic countries explore how education, education policy, and educational thinking in these countries are affected by these global trends, bringing to the fore the different roles education can play in addressing the various issues and different ways of reimagining education. This authoritative volume will be of great interest to researchers, academics, and students in the fields of sociology of education, migration and education, environmental education, and educational politics.

Nordic Social Pedagogical Approach To Early Years written by Charlotte Ringsmose and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-21 with Education categories.

This book studies the major characteristics of the social pedagogical approach to early childhood education and care. It does so by investigating the distinctive elements of the Nordic approach and tradition. The cultural, educational, and ideological structures and values within the Nordic tradition indicate a strong “social pedagogical” rather than “early education” emphasis. The Nordic tradition applies a social learning approach that emphasizes play, relationships and outdoor life, and presumes that learning takes place through children’s participation in social interaction and processes. Set against this background, the book examines the characteristics of the pedagogue and the important features that develop through the Nordic approach. It compares children educated in the Nordic tradition with those educated in the French-English and Anglo-American tradition. It explores quality in relation to how children can enjoy childhood, and at the same time become able to actively participate in society and develop the social and cognitive skills and competences that individuals require to do well in society.

How does professional education for future social workers and social pedagogues in one country compare with other countries? What happened in Germany, Denmark and French-speaking Belgium during the years 1989-2004, starting with the year when an EU Directive laid down common rules for the mutual recognition of higher education qualifications? And which lessons may English and British academics, policy-makers, employers and unionists draw from this European material? Are social work and social pedagogy bound to converge as they did in Germany? Or are there Alternatives to Convergence? Did professional education in the countries examined show signs of Europeanisation? These are some of the questions which readers will be able to explore in this book.\pAfter working in the European Commission (Sport Unit) (2001-14) Jacob Kornbeck recently joined the Secretariat of the European Data Protection Supervisor (Policy and Consultation Unit). His part-time research interests cover a range of policy areas, often involving transnational comparisons. Apart from social work and social pedagogy he has written and lectured on various aspects of sports policy, in particular anti-doping and athletes' rights, as well as health-enhancing physical activity (HEPA). Jacob holds degrees from German and British universities. This book is the slightly reworked text of his doctoral thesis (University of London). Following Inspiration from Brussels: the European Union and Sport (published by EHV Academic Press in 2013), this is his second book.\p
