Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: Information als Therapieform: Die Zahl der an Diabetes Erkrankten beläuft sich in Deutschland momentan auf acht Millionen, was ca. zehn Prozent der deutschen Bevölkerung entspricht. Diese Zahl steigt vor allem aufgrund der Zunahme von übergewichtigen und physisch weniger aktiven Menschen stetig weiter an. Bereits heute gilt Diabetes in allen Altersstufen als die häufigste chronische Erkrankung. Mangelnde Informationen über wichtige alltags- und gesundheitsrelevante Fragestellungen zum Leben mit Diabetes und unzureichende Krankheitsbewältigung können schwerwiegende bis lebensgefährliche Folgen für die Gesundheit der Patienten haben. Dies bedeutet, dass eine erfolgreiche Diabetesbehandlung untrennbar mit einer engagierten Beteiligung der Patienten verbunden ist, wofür ein ausreichender Informationsstand unerlässlich ist. Jahrelange Forschung hat gezeigt, dass informierte und in die Behandlung ihrer Krankheit involvierte Patienten bessere gesundheitliche Fortschritte machen und zufriedener mit ihrer Behandlung sind als andere Patienten. Wie wichtig gesundheitsrelevante Informationen für Patienten sein können, zeigt auch Deering (1998). Sie stellt dar, dass nur ungefähr fünf der 30 Jahre höheren Lebenserwartung, welche Amerikaner im Laufe des letzten Jahrhunderts dazu gewonnen haben, tatsächlich der medizinischen Versorgung zuzuschreiben sind. Die restlichen 25 Jahre dagegen sind Vorsorge- und Aufklärungsprogrammen zu verdanken, welche vor allem Gesundheitsinformationen für Patienten beinhalten. Darüber hinaus wollen auch immer mehr Patienten ihre Behandlung selbst mitbestimmen, wofür ein umfassender Informationsstand unbedingt notwendig ist. Jahrelang war es üblich, dass der Arzt die nahezu einzige Quelle zur Beschaffung gesundheitsrelevanter Informationen war. Seit einigen Jahren jedoch gewinnt die mediale Vermittlung gesundheitsrelevanter Informationen immer mehr an Bedeutung und es besteht ein großes öffentliches Interesse an gesundheitsrelevanten Informationen auf Seiten der immer gesundheitsbewussteren Patienten. Die Internetsuchmaschine Google liefert aktuell beispielsweise 108 Millionen Ergebnisse auf den Suchbegriff Gesundheit und Amazon Deutschland führt nahezu 110 000 Bücher zum Thema Medizin. In der Zeitschrift FOCUS wurden im Jahr 2006 über 160 Seiten zu Gesundheit und Psychologie veröffentlicht und auch die Zahl der sich auf diese Themenbereiche spezialisierten Titel wie Stern gesund leben , Vital oder [...]

This volume is the first to address multilingual healthcare communication around the globe and focuses on institutional, social and linguistic challenges and resources of the healthcare industry. With increased personal mobility in a global society, the need for multilingual staff is on the rise in medical institutions and healthcare organisations, and communicative competencies and practices involving different languages pose challenges for medical doctors, healthcare staff and patients alike. Many studies have highlighted the crucial role played by interpreters and interpreting staff, but the diversity of language situations in different countries requires very different approaches and solutions. Additionally, it may not be possible to develop a single agenda of language services for different medical areas with different needs for counselling, with various forms of treatment that require explanation and the patient‘s informed consent and with varying approaches to the relationship between medical professionals and patients. How to best organise medical (digital) language services in countries as different as South Africa, Greenland, Germany, Belgium and Australia calls for a diversity of possible solutions. The current volume makes a variety of such solutions and practices available for medical staff and healthcare institutions faced with international patients and working with international medical staff. It makes the challenges palpable on an international scale in a way that comparisons may be drawn between different solutions as well as their socio-cultural and institutional implications. Unter der Fragestellung „Wie unterscheiden sich Patienten mit einem Typ-2-Diabetes und diabetischem Fußsyndrom (DFS) von solchen ohne DFS hinsichtlich ihres Wissens über Fußpflege, ihres Fußpflegeverhaltens und der wahrgenommenen Barrieren?“ fand eine Befragung von Patienten mit Typ-2-Diabetes mit und ohne DFS statt. Die Patienten mit DFS weisen ein besseres Fußpflegewissen und günstigeres Fußpflegeverhalten auf, nehmen aber mehr Barrieren in der Gesunderhaltung ihrer Füße wahr. Es ergibt sich kein Zusammenhang zwischen Barrieren und Verhalten sowie den Barrieren und dem Wissen. Das Wissen ist hingegen in beiden Gruppen mit dem Verhalten assoziiert. Der gefundene Zusammenhang zwischen Wissen und Verhalten deutet auf eine bis zu einem gewissen Grade effektive Wissensvermittlung hin, wobei die Notwendigkeit zu gezielten und gruppenspezifischen Schulungen zur Verbesserung des Wissens und zur Prävention des DFS bestehen bleibt. Der Aufruf zu individualisierten Schulungsinhalten ergibt sich aus der Assoziation zwischen Wissen und Verhalten in der Patientengruppe mit DFS: sie scheinen aufgrund bestimmter Aspekte aufmerksamer für Maßnahmen eines günstigeren Fußpflegeverhaltens zu sein.
