Das Phänomen des katastrophalen Endes der Welt, auch bekannt als Apokalypse im Christentum, hat eine lange Geschichte. Es gibt viele verschiedene apokalyptische Visionen, die den Rahmen dieser Arbeit sprengen würden, um sie einzeln aufzuführen. Im Blickpunkt dieser Arbeit liegen zwei Definitionen des Weltuntergangs, zum einen die der „Johannesoffenbarung“ und zum anderen die der „Modernen Apokalypse“. Vielmehr als die Frage, ob die Apokalypse eine reine Theorie oder Phantasie darstellt oder nicht, geht es in dieser Arbeit um die Darstellung zweier apokalyptischer Szenarien, die in zwei unterschiedlichen Folgen der Serie „Die Simpsons“ behandelt werden. Inhaltlich soll dabei die Zeichentrickserie „Die Simpsons“ an sich kurz vorgestellt werden, wobei speziell zwei Folgen im Mittelpunkt stehen und einer Analyse sowie einer wissenschaftlichen Betrachtung unterzogen werden. Das Ergebnis soll darstellen, inwieweit sich die Verantwortlichen der Serie mit den Inhalten der dargestellten Weltuntergangstheorien bzw. Visionen auseinandergesetzt haben und inwieweit eine Verbindung zwischen den Apokalypse-Versionen besteht.
