Damit dieser Kontakt erfolgreich und positiv verläuft, sollte das Gespräch eine gute Struktur haben und Lehrer*Innen sollten als Berater*Innen verschiedene Grundhaltungen und Kompetenzen vorweisen. Verschiedene Elterntypen, Dimensionen einer Nachricht, Fragetechniken und Einflussfaktoren sind hierbei besonders zu berücksichtigen, um ein kooperatives Elterngespräch entwickeln zu können. Um in schwierigen Situationen daher auch angemessen reagieren zu können ist zum einen eine gründliche Vorbereitung wichtig, aber auch die Erfahrung bringt natürlich eine gewisse Reaktionsfähigkeit. Auf die eigentliche Vorbereitung des Elterngesprächs wird diese Arbeit allerdings aus Platzgründen nicht eingehen. Die vorliegende Arbeit besteht aus insgesamt vier verschiedenen Teilen und befasst sich zuerst mit der Rolle der Lehrkraft, anschließend mit der Rolle der Eltern und der Gesprächsführung an sich. Abschließend werden die Struktur und der Verlauf eines Elterngespräches genauer untersucht und die gehaltene Seminareinheit "Durchführung des Elterngesprächs" vom 10. Januar 2019 analysiert. Um die Eltern als Kommunikations- und Kooperationspartner*Innen zu gewinnen, muss die Lehrkraft gewisse Grundhaltungen und Kompetenzen sowie verschiedene Blickwinkel mit in das Elterngespräch bringen. Hennig & Ehinger beschreiben diese Grundhaltungen in einer Abbildung in der Form eines Sternes, die als Zentrum das Ziel stellt, die elterliche "Kooperationsbereitschaft durch Achten und Respektieren ihres Selbstwertgefühls" zu sichern bzw. zu erhöhen.
