Ilmu Patologi Klinik saat ini telah berkembang dengan pesat. Sejarah awal hematologi diawali dengan pemeriksaan mikroskopis sel-sel darah oleh Leeuwenhoek dkk pada abad 17 M, dan saat ini telah berkembang dengan dasar-dasar flow-cytometry yang diaplikasikan dalam peralatan modern hematology analizer. Sedangkan hemostasis yaitu proses mencegah hilangnya darah dari pembuluh darah, dimulai sejak jaman Yunani kuno dimana saat itu diberikan herbal dan mineral untuk pencegahan pendarahan pada luka akibat perang. Pada saat ini hemostasis telah berkembang dengan pesat dimana fisiologi dan patofisiologi hemostasis beserta penyakitnya dapat dijelaskan secara sientifik, dan teknologi pemeriksaan hemostasis telah berkembang secara modern. Sedangkan sejarah bidang transfusi darah dari manusia ke manusia telah dikerjakan sejak tahun 1.818 oleh Dr. James Blundell untuk pasien perdarahan post partum. Sejak tahun 1.900 terjadi kemajuan yang sangat pesat sehingga menjadi bidang ilmu Transfusi Medisin. Di Indonesia, transfusi medisin diatur oleh Permenkes RI No.91, tahun 2015. Buku ini terbagi dalam tiga bagian : (1) Dasar-Dasar Hematologi, yang membahas mengenai pemeriksaan laboratorium klinik hematologi beserta hematopoiesis dan pengenalan sel-sel darah manusia; (2) Hemostasis, yang membahas proses pembentukan koagulasi darah hingga proses fibrinolisis; dan (3) Transfusi Darah, yang membahas antigen dan antibodi golongan darah beserta transfusi medisin.
