Seminar paper from the year 2016 in the subject Law - Civil / Private / Trade / Anti Trust Law / Business Law, grade: 2,0, University of applied sciences, Munich, language: English, abstract: This assignment provides an overview of the complexity of data protection and the usage of social networks that US-based companies have to deal with. The world wide web has brought many new opportunities for companies to globalize, expand and to make work processes paperless. Looking at the findings conducted for data protection laws it is a big surprise that the US has not implemented a federal data protection act, even though data protection and privacy is seen as a human right for most economically strong countries including Canada and Europe. Thus, the US data protection acts are split into several industries and works in a 'patchwork system'. This system made it more difficult for the US to trade with the European Union before both parties agreed on an EU-US Privacy Shield to protect European customer data. Secondly, this assignment identifies that Social Networks should not be included in the recruitment process of an employer but can be used as a platform for employees to discuss work processes or for the companies to promote its products and services. This is a legal procedure as long as the content posted is not illegal, obscene, incorrect, defamatory or invasive of privacy. The acceptance and openness for the US citizens to freely communicate online is a consequence of Americas 'free speech' philosophy. Additionally, a Business providing its own social network in form of a blog, content community or social media website is not held liable for the content that is being posted by users, however, the service provider has to have a system in place to be able to delete illegal content.

Consenting or not consenting - when reading the privacy policy of a social network service, one might wonder why he or she is asked to accept the privacy policy. Does one have a choice? This survey analyzes the status quo of current practices and policies of service providers to obtain consent in Europe. It reveals the main purposes for which they collect, use, and disclose users' personal data. The often-cited "informed user" needs information about what she or he is consenting to. Is the privacy policy easily readable and accessible? How long is the average European data use policy? These and other questions were answered in this survey by analyzing 140 user generated content websites (e.g. Facebook). (Series: Reports on Information, Telecommunication and Media Law - Vol. 18)

The transformational technologies of the Internet-Web compound continue to exert a vast and readily apparent influence on the way we live and work. In recent times, internet penetration is now very high in most parts of the world, impacting the context and content of the workplace and the boundary between work and private life is even more porous. Not only has the reach increased, but the technologies to access the Internet-Web have further evolved towards increasing portability. The hardware evolution from desktops to laptops to mobile technologies (phones, tablets, watches, eyeglasses) marches forward. The increasing mobility and 24/7 accessibility offers the opportune time to revisit the transformations occurring. Today the Internet consists of billions of digital devices, people, services and other physical objects with the potential to seamlessly connect, interact and exchange information about themselves and their environment. Organizations now use these digital devices and physical objects to produce and consume Internet-based services. This new Internet ecosystem is commonly referred to as the Internet of People, Things and Services (IoPTS). In this follow-up to their 2006 volume, Simmers & Anandarajan examine how The Internet of People, Things and Services (IoPTS) transforms our workplaces. Information and communications technology (ICT) expansion from desktops to laptops to ubiquitous smart objects that sense and communicate directly over the internet – the IoPTS - offers us the opportune time to revisit how the Internet transforms our workplaces.

The enormous success and diffusion that online social networks (OSNs) are encountering nowadays is vastly apparent. Users' social interactions now occur using online social media as communication channels; personal information and activities are easily exchanged both for recreational and business purposes in order to obtain social or economic advantages. In this scenario, OSNs are considered critical applications with respect to the security of users and their resources, for their characteristics alone: the large amount of personal information they manage, big economic upturn connected to their commercial use, strict interconnection among users and resources characterizing them, as well as user attitude to easily share private data and activities with strangers. In this book, we discuss three main research topics connected to security in online social networks: (i) trust management, because trust can be intended as a measure of the perception of security (in terms of risks/benefits) that users in an OSN have with respect to other (unknown/little-known) parties; (ii) controlled information sharing, because in OSNs, where personal information is not only connected to user profiles, but spans across users' social activities and interactions, users must be provided with the possibility to directly control information flows; and (iii) identity management, because OSNs are subjected more and more to malicious attacks that, with respect to traditional ones, have the advantage of being more effective by leveraging the social network as a new medium for reaching victims. For each of these research topics, in this book we provide both theoretical concepts as well as an overview of the main solutions that commercial/non-commercial actors have proposed over the years. We also discuss some of the most promising research directions in these fields.

Strategies In E Business written by Ignacio Gil-Pechuán and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-09-25 with Business & Economics categories.

In this volume, the authors apply insights from a variety of perspectives to explore the alignment among strategy, organization design, process and human resource management, and e-business practices on developing successful social networking programs—with particular regard to applying such initiatives against the backdrop of the global financial crisis and challenges to traditional business models. Showcasing in-depth case studies, the authors present emerging approaches to analyze the impact of investment in social networking sites, aligning internal resources, and measuring effects on positioning, branding, and new business creation. The fact that a growing proportion of the world population has a relationship with social networking sites could prove very valuable for companies. The question is whether this represents a business opportunity, whether companies know how to make the most of it and if they will make the necessary efforts to adapt to these new platforms. In the modern world, social networking sites have enormous potential for large as well as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs); most companies are aware of the need for a presence on social networking sites, but at present their e-business strategies are part of their medium and long-term strategic planning and only a small percentage have been put into practice. In short, this book attempts to answer the following questions: Is there a business opportunity for companies on social networking sites? Do they know how to make the most of it? Are they willing to make the necessary effort to adapt? Can e-business strategies contribute to company creation and the success of already existing businesses? And if so, how?
