Je voudrais même me complaire dans une telle pensée mensongère et inepte, que la réalité, jamais menteuse, viendrait me faire sentir, à chaque instant, que le mépris systématique professé contre l'Africain m'enveloppe tout entier. Si le noir antillien fait preuve d'une intelligence supérieure ; s'il montre des aptitudes inconnues à ses ancêtres, ce n'est, pas moins à ceux-ci qu'il doit le premier germe mental que la sélection a fortifié et augmenté en lui..."
