"Intelligent Decision Making" clearly and succinctly illustrates the critical factors and benefits of decision making, the impact they have upon management, and why critical thinking is essential to overcome problems, identify changes, resolve conflict and develop and implement new ideas. You will learn how analytical thinking applies to the decision-making process, and how to identify the expected results and outcomes of intelligent decision making. Additionally, you will also learn how adaptable decision-making tools and techniques provide superior documentation, rationale, collection of information and interaction between decision makers. You will be taught proven strategies to effectively enhance one's decision making capabilities, including seven guidelines for effective decision making, and three models to boost decision making outcomes. You will be instructed how to increase the power of decision making with logical, intuitive and creative mental processing, as well as how to overcome the problems and pitfalls associated with decision making. Finally, you will discover the impact of failing to properly apply the concepts and strategies of effective decision making. As part of the Pinpoint Skill Development Training Series, each skill pack (book) delivers eight core concepts, designed to provide a complete 360 degree perspective on each topic. Making Decisions Under Stress: Implications for Individual and Team Training represents the culmination of a seven-year research project called TADMUS (tactical decision making under stress). The goal of the programme, sponsored by the Office of Naval Research, was to develop training, simulation, decision support and display principles that would help to mitigate the impact of stress on decision making. The volume outlines the overall background, research approach and paradigm employed by TADMUS, with specific focus on research regarding how to train decision making at the individual and team levels - especially how to provide training that will prepare individuals to operate in complex team environments. The chapters explore complex, realistic tasks with experienced Navy participants.

Computer simulation-based education and training is a multi-billion dollar industry. With the increased complexity of organizational decision making, projected demand for computer simulation-based decisional aids is on the rise. The objective of this book is to enhance systematically our understanding of and gain insights into the general process by which human facilitated ILEs are effectively designed and used in improving users’ decision making in dynamic tasks. This book is divided into four major parts. Part I serves as an introduction to the subject of “decision making in dynamic tasks”, its importance and its complexity. Part II provides background material, drawing upon the relevant literature, for the development of an integrated process model on the effectiveness of human facilitated ILEs in improving decision making in dynamic tasks. Part III focuses on the design, development and application of Fish Bank ILE, in laboratory experiments, to gather empirical evidence for the validity of the process model. Finally, part IV presents a comprehensive analysis of the gathered data to provide a powerful basis for understating important phenomena of training with human facilitated simulation-based learning environments, thereby, help to drive critical lessons to be learned. This book provides the reader with both a comprehensive understanding of the phenomena encountered in decision making with human facilitated ILEs and a unique way of studying the effects of these phenomena on people’s ability to make better decision in complex, dynamic tasks. This book is intended to be of use to managers and practitioners, researchers and students of dynamic decision making. The background material of Part II provides a solid base to understand and organize the existing experimental research literature and approaches.

The Little Black Book of Decision Making delves into the cognition behind decision making, guiding you through the different ways your mind approaches various scenarios. You'll learn to notice that decision making is a matter of balance between your rational side and your intuition – the trick is in honing your intuition to steer you down the right path. There must be a balance between the two, and the proportions may change with each situation. This book helps you quickly pinpoint the right mix of logic and 'gut feeling,' and use it to find the best possible solution. Balance logic and intuition in your decision making approach Avoid traps set by the mind's inherent bias Understand the cognitive process of decision making Sharpen your professional judgement in any situation Decision making is the primary difference between organisations that lead and those that struggle. The Little Black Book of Decision Making helps you uncover errors in thinking before they become errors in judgement.
